The band is actually called Herman's Hermits, and did exist. They were one of the many British Invasion groups of the mid 60s. While the group is no longer together, frontman Peter Noone still tours and performs on a regular basis.
The versions are exactly the same, the only major differences being that the DVD combines 2 episodes to a disc, and includes a bonus disc. The contents of the bonus disc are as follows (taken from the Wikipedia page for the Anthology):
