“The Life of Chuck,” Mike Flanagan’s sci-fi drama that won the Toronto Film Festival’s prestigious audience award last year, is set to close the screen festival of the inaugural SXSW London.

The film — being distributed locally by Studiocanal — will have it’s U.K. premiere as the event’s closing night film on June 7.

Adapted by Flanagan from Stephen King’s 2020 novella, “The Life of Chuck” stars Tom Hiddleston alongside Mark Hamill, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay. Billed as a “life-affirming” story about an ordinary man named Charles Krantz, the film is split into three distinct chapters that unfurl in reverse chronological order and are set against the backdrop of a world that appears to be slowly crumbling. The film — which Neon acquired for the U.S. after Toronto — has ben compared to King adaptations like “Shawshank Redemption” and “Stand By Me” rather than “It” or “Pet Sematary.

I’ve seen a lot of films that come and go over the years, but every once in a while, one comes along that shakes up things in the best way. Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction was one of those movies. As Clint Eastwood put it, it came at a time that needed a little excitement, something fresh and bold.

And the film delivered, as it didn’t just entertain, it challenged the way Hollywood thought about storytelling, which I believe deserved the Best Picture Oscar at the 67th Academy Awards. A fourth Stephen King film adaptation will hit theaters this year. Lionsgate just announced during their CinemaCon presentation that The Long Walk will be released on Sept. 12, 2025. A trailer for the King movie was also shared with those in attendance.

The Long Walk director Francis Lawrence was onstage during the presentation to tease the upcoming movie, which is based on the 1979 dystopian horror novel of the same name by King (published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman). "This is my favorite Stephen King novel, I read it 27 years ago," said Lawrence (via Deadline). "The rights got bought and then came back up. Roy Lee, my producer, brought it to me. For me, it was the conceit that was very interesting. You can imagine yourself in the shoes of these young men. World building –the heart of the movie for me is about these young men, their comraderies, the love that forms.

The big screen has hosted plenty of masterpieces like The Shining, Stand by Me, and The Shawshank Redemption, but his name is not exactly equivalent to guaranteed success. Cell, The Dark Tower and Riding the Bullet are a few which failed to earn acclaim. And, in the middle ground, where the most divisive movies remain, you will find Thinner.

Thinner, the body horror film based on the book of the same name by Stephen King, has suddenly become a hit on the streaming platform Tubi, a.k.a. one of the few streamers that doesn't require you to pay a single penny or even register.

Netflix has given a green light to a movie reboot of the Stephen King novel Cujo, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

Roy Lee will produce the remake of the horror story about a mother and son who fight off a rabid dog while trapped in their car. Cujo was first adapted from King’s 1981 psychological horror novel of the same name where Cujo is at first a lovable St. Bernard, but after being bitten by a bat becomes everyone’s worst enemy.

In the 1983 film Cujo, a mother, Donna (Dee Wallace), and her son, Tad (Danny Pintauro) come into contact with Cujo and must fight for their lives. King’s novels, starting with 1976’s Carrie, have long been picked up by Hollywood for movie adaptations.
