Sex & Nudity

  • The lions are nude for the entire film.

Violence & Gore

  • Scar throws fiery embers at Simba's face.
  • Rafiki fights off the hyenas in the final battle, however this was done more for comedic effect.
  • Scar hits Simba's mother when she objects to his cruel and irresponsible ruling, reminding him that he is nothing like Mufasa (Simba's father). She is unconscious for a moment.
  • Hyenas crawl out from their dark, steaming boneyard to threaten young Simba, Nala, and Zazu. They stick Zazu in a lava pit in an effort to cook him (he rockets off with a smoking trail) and then lunge with snapping jaws at the scurrying cubs. Simba scratches a hyena's face in defense of Nala. Just before disaster strikes, Mufasa charges in and bats the hyenas violently about.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Simba is thrown off the edge of a cliff, but grabs onto the edge, and is dangling over a forest fire, but doesn't fall.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • In a scene near the end Shenzi, Banzai, Ed, and the rest of the spotted hyenas maul Scar off-screen and kill him by ripping him to shreds. We don't actually see his death, but it's all presented via the actions of their shadows, and it is very graphic.
  • Scar is killed by the hyenas, it's offscreen but we see a shadow of the act playing out
  • Mufasa and a young Simba struggle to escape from a flood of stampeding wildebeest. The lions are kicked, stomped and sent careening back and forth by the herd. Mufasa lifts Simba to safety but tumbles backward into the surging mass of animals. Mufasa is later shown lying still, seemingly unscathed; however, it is revealed that he is dead when Simba tries to wake him.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • During a wildebeest stampede (instigated by the hyenas), when Mufasa attempts to climb up a cliff, Scar claws Mufasa's paws, and with a creepy, murderous grin, whispers, "Long live the king", in an chillingly sadistic tone of voice, before cruelly dropping Mufasa to his death.
  • The villain Scar is a very frightening character and will likely scare many younger viewers. The hyena trio Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed are a little scary at times but also have a lot of comedic moments.
  • Mufasa's death is one of the emotional and very sad of the cinema history.
  • Mufasa's dead body is seen.
