The first instalment of 9 movie length episodes starring Rebecca Gibney as Jane Halifax, forensic psychiatrist. We are introduced to Halifax at the trial of Linden Howell, played by Joan Murray, who has shot and killed her unfaithful, politician, husband. She is being prosecuted for murder. Jane Halifax is giving evidence that will destroy the defence's argument of temporary insanity.

Meanwhile colleague, Owen Tozer, played by Andrew McFarlane, is embroiled in an affair with his patient, Cori Neal, played by Sophie Lee, which has spun out of control and now threatens to ruin him. When Cori is killed in a hit and run accident police discover that she is pregnant. At first they suspect her abusive boyfriend, Tony Doyle, played by Cristin Daniel.

When blood tests prove the baby is not the boyfriend's the police turn their attention to her psychiatrist, Owen Tozer. His erratic behaviour does not help his case. In desperation he turns to Halifax for help to find the real murderer. Help that may include breaking the law and placing her own career in jeopardy.

Special mention should be made of Christin Daniel's performance. Sadly we have not seen enough of his talents.

It is difficult getting your head around Rebecca Gibney as an attractive psychiatrist working for the police. She puts in a competent performance. I was a little disappointed with the series and felt it could have benefited from better scripts. In a word.....adequate.
