Did Tom Hanks’ daughter have a secret role in his movie? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
At a New York City event held on April 8, 2024, Elizabeth Anne Hanks took a trip down memory lane (with a smile). Seated next to her father, Tom Hanks, at the 92nd Street Y, began by referencing her fleeting appearance in Forrest Gump, quipping, “Shall we just address the Forrest Gump cameo right away?”
As it turns out, her involvement in the iconic 1994 film, which gifted us the memorable line about a box of chocolates, wasn’t as a mere background extra. E.A., whose full name is Elizabeth Anne Hanks, was the frowning child on the school bus who denied young Forrest a seat. That was her—the quintessential mean girl on wheels. She chuckled about it, describing it as “my career highlight to date, ‘mean girl on bus.’” Not exactly Oscar material, but screen time is screen time.

Image Source: Sony Pictures Tom Hanks, a two-time Academy Award winner, has been on the silver screen in many beloved and classic movies that continue to connect with audiences today throughout his distinguished career. From the cheerful charm of Big and the ageless wisdom of Forrest Gump to the inspiring spirit of A League of Their Own, his filmography is packed with cherished classics. Among these acclaimed works, however, is a gem of subtle genius: the 2019 biodrama, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. This powerful movie examines the transforming encounter between the strongly sympathetic television star Fred Rogers and a jaded journalist as the writer sets out on a profile that blossoms into an unexpected and significant friendship. Hanks portrays the legendary Fred Rogers, the kind-hearted host of the always beloved children’s show, Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, in this film. On-screen, Rogers warm and real presence reflected his true nature off-camera.

There are only a handful of actors who have achieved the level of stardom and critical acclaim as Tom Hanks. Over four decades in Hollywood, he’s worked with a roster of renowned directors like Wes Anderson, Robert Zemeckis, Steven Spielberg, and Baz Luhrmann, building a filmography rich in variety and range. Known for beloved classics such as Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Toy Story, Hanks’ body of work has left a profound impact on audiences worldwide.
However, even for an icon like Hanks, not every film has been a hit. Alongside his masterpieces are a few titles he might prefer to leave forgotten. Whether due to lackluster performances, disappointing box office numbers, or poor critical reception, these movies simply didn’t live up to the Hanks standard.
From early missteps to recent experiments gone wrong, here are five Tom Hanks movies that didn’t quite make the grade.

By the ripe age of 27, the virtuoso card player Stu Ungar had won two back-to-back World Series of Poker titles, following a gin rummy career so successful that he reportedly had a hard time finding people to play him.
Seventeen years and one more World Series of Poker title later, he was found dead in a Vegas motel room of a heart attack with a small amount of drugs in his system after years of addiction.
Ungar’s dramatic life story has been told onscreen before, in the 2003 unauthorized film High Roller (with Ungar played by The Sopranos’ Michael Imperioli) and in the 2006 ESPN documentary One of a Kind. But now, for the first time, a creative team has secured Ungar’s life story rights exclusively from his family and is promising to shed further light on Ungar’s journey.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has replaced legendary production designer Rick Carter’s two Oscars after they were lost in the Los Angeles wildfires earlier this year.
Carter, who won two Academy Awards for his work on 2009’s Avatar and 2012’s Lincoln, was among thousands whose homes were destroyed when wildfires ripped through the Pacific Palisades and Altadena in January.
On Monday, the Academy shared on its official Instagram account that CEO Bill Kramer presented Carter with his new statuettes. “Today we had the honor of replacing the Oscars that legendary production designer Rick Carter won for Avatar and Lincoln — awards he lost when the LA fires destroyed his home earlier this year,” the caption read.

I’ve seen a lot of films that come and go over the years, but every once in a while, one comes along that shakes up things in the best way. Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction was one of those movies. As Clint Eastwood put it, it came at a time that needed a little excitement, something fresh and bold.
And the film delivered, as it didn’t just entertain, it challenged the way Hollywood thought about storytelling, which I believe deserved the Best Picture Oscar at the 67th Academy Awards. Nothing against Forrest Gump, but Tarantino’s film was electric, raw, stylish, and completely original, something that Eastwood also recognized and acknowledged.

It's no secret that nostalgia paints everything in rosy colors, making it harder to recognize when something we once loved no longer holds up. This happens frequently in the world of film, where childhood emotions blind us to the flaws of a genuinely crappy picture. We don't want to admit that something that once stirred us to our core has lost its luster -- and honestly, there's no shame in that. We've all been there.
Still, part of growing up is accepting some hard truths. Steven Spielberg's "Hook" isn't all that great. Michael Bay probably never had it. "Pulp Fiction" and "The Shawshank Redemption" are leagues better than "Forrest Gump." And "Back to the Future Part II and III" never should have happened. There -- don't you feel a little better?
No? Well, buckle up. Here's an even tougher exercise: a list of 10 hit horror movies that aren't as good as you remember.

Ski resorts are like country club golf courses and exclusive airport lounges, in that it’s generally pretty safe for well-heeled folks to get completely hammered there at any hour of the day.
So when Haley Joel Osment got arrested at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area in eastern California earlier this month, it’s safe to assume that there had been quite a spectacle.
Now, Haley — who was reportedly cuffed and taken into custody on April 8 — has not been convicted of anything, and details of his arrest are scarce at the moment.

Let’s say you just left the movie theater, your popcorn tub is empty except for the regret, and you’ve got that dazed, post-cinematic glow. The credits roll, you clap even though no one else does, and then someone asks, “What would you rate it?”
You panic. You say something diplomatic like, “It was… interesting.” But what if you could just give it a solid A+ and go home without a second thought? That’s exactly what a very rare few have done, 128 times, to be exact, since 1979.

Hollywood is popular for its red carpet award shows like the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmys, which come along with teary-eyed acceptance speeches celebrating cinematic masterpieces. Directors, actors, and everyone who works together to make a cinema great are acknowledged at these events.
However, to keep things in check and keep them humble, the Golden Raspberry Awards are given. This accolade celebrates cinematic missteps, films that missed the mark, and actors who delivered performances far from acting. The Raspberry Awards are the Thanos snap of Hollywood to keep things in balance.

Senate and House lawmakers Wednesday reintroduced legislation that will give individuals the right to control the use of their digital likeness, as part of an effort to limit the use of AI deepfakes and voice clones.
The No Fakes Act was introduced last year but failed to advance in Congress even with bipartisan support and changes that alleviated First Amendment worries.
The legislation gives individuals the right to authorize the use of their voice and likeness in digital replication. The digital replication right does not expire at a person’s death, and can be transferred and licensed by heirs, executors and others. That post-mortem right, though, terminates no longer than 70 years after an individual’s passing.
The legislation is sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tn), Sen. Chris Coons (D-de), Sen. Thom Tillis (R-Nc) and Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-mn). In the House, the sponsors are Rep.

Chet Hanks is taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane with his latest music video, featuring none other than his famous father, Tom Hanks. The video for “You Better Run,” the second single from his country music duo Something Out West with Drew Arthur, pays homage to the 1994 classic Forrest Gump, a role that earned Tom his second Academy Award.
Chet has recently been romantically linked with troubled reality TV star Kim Zolciak.
The video opens with Hanks sitting on a familiar-looking bus stop bench, dressed in a light-colored suit reminiscent of the one his father wore as Forrest Gump. In a nod to the film’s most iconic moment, he later recreates the legendary “Run, Forrest, run!” scene. The references don’t stop there. Hanks and Arthur are seen aboard a boat called “Jenny,” a tribute to Forrest’s childhood friend and love interest, played by Robin Wright.

These days, actress Robin Wright is likely best known for her six seasons as Claire Underwood on “House of Cards.” Her character’s trajectory on Netflix’s often-rancid take on underhanded politics saw her ending up becoming the 47th President of the United States after co-star Kevin Spacey was forced to leave the show due to allegations of sexual misconduct. Wright collected six Emmy nominations as Best Drama Actresss and two for being an executive producer on the show. Tom Hanks has cemented a fair enough respectable reputation for himself in Hollywood, and it’s not just because of his unparalleled acting chops. Rather he also seems to have established a squeaky-clean image of himself, especially as one of the best personalities in the entertainment industry to date.
However, now that very reputation seems to be getting tarnished as the newest details into the life of his family have surfaced following his divorce from his first wife, Samantha Lewes. As publicly admitted by the actor cum director’s only daughter, that divorce really seems to have ruined her life.

Spencer Tracy was the two-time Oscar winner starred in a variety of classics before his death in 1967, including nine films opposite fellow legend Katharine Hepburn. Let's take a look back at 20 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
Tracy pulled off the rare hat-trick of winning back-to-back Best Actor Oscars, first for his performance as a Portuguese sailor in "Captains Courageous" (1937), then for playing a dedicated priest helping wayward youths in "Boys Town" (1938). It's a feat that would only be repeated once more in this category by Tom Hanks ("Philadelphia" in 1993 and "Forrest Gump" in 1994).
Tracy would compete seven more times in the category: "San Francisco" (1936), "Father of the Bride" (1950), "Bad Day at Black Rock" (1955), "The Old Man and the Sea" (1958), "Inherit the Wind" (1960), "Judgment at Nuremberg" (1961), and "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" (1967), which was recognized posthumously.

Colin Jost and Michael Che had a lot of news to dig into from the week, but nothing elicited a greater reaction from the audience than the latter’s dig at Will Smith’s first album in two decades.
“Will Smith has released his first new album in 20 years, and ironically the album doesn’t slap,” he said on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update, first eliciting jeers, which then gave way to strong cheers.
Elsewhere during the segment, the anchors took turns dragging President Donald Trump’s administration, having fun with the news of the Signal group chat that leaked sensitive war plans in Yemen to a journalist at The Atlantic.
“Well, this week we learned our entire national security team has the texting skills of my aunt Janet,” Jost began. He continued with multiple jabs at Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who has long faced allegations of alcohol abuse,...

Tom Hanks is no stranger to music videos; he starred in Carly Rae Jepsen's video for "I Really Like You," which currently sits at 312 million views on YouTube. Now he's starring in one from his son's new twist on a country music band, Something Out West, and he's bringing along the vibes of one of his most iconic movies, Forrest Gump. Chet Hanks formed the band with his friend and former roommate Drew Arthur, and they signed to Big Machine Records in February of this year. Their second and latest single, "You Better Run," is a treat for Hanks and Gump fans, and you can watch it below.
The music video recreates the famous "box of chocolates" scene and the storytelling device of the park bench, but this time, Chet Hanks is dressed as Gump while his father sits near him. The video features Hanks frequently running, mirroring the "Run,...

This time, it’s not Tom Hanks running but rather his son, Chet Hanks.
The music video (below) for Something Out West’s — the duo consisting of Chet and Drew Arthur — new song “You Better Run” features scenes inspired by Tom’s 1994 classic film Forrest Gump and an appearance by the Oscar winner.
One of the most memorable lines from the film is when young Jenny (Hanna Hall) says to a young Forrest (Michael Conner Humphreys), “Run, Forrest, Run,” as he’s being chased by bullies on bicycles. Throughout the film, the line symbolizes Forrest’s tendency to keep moving forward, even when facing challenges as a grown man, played by Tom.
In the “You Better Run” music video, Chet recreates the Forrest Gump scene, but this time, he’s the one running from bullies in a red pickup truck.

Chet Hanks is stepping into his father’s shoes in a new music video, recreating several scenes from Forrest Gump, dressing as the character, and even inviting Tom Hanks for a cameo.
Like many men before him, Chet Hanks has made the pivot from hip-hop to country music, and he’s teamed up with singer-songwriter Drew Arthur for the new duo Something Out West. They made their debut with “Leaving Hollywood” last month, and now, they’re back with the country rock track “You Better Run.”
Though the song doesn’t reference the 1994 film beyond the playful title, the music video goes full Forrest Gump parody, with Hanks donning the character’s blue and grey suit and reprising the iconic bench scene from the movie. Hanks also appears on a boat inspired by Gump’s shrimping vessel and recreates the film’s “run across America” sequence.

This article contains spoilers for The Electric State, which is now streaming on Netflix.
Lately, streaming originals have been competing with theatrical releases, so Netflix took a bold risk with The Electric State. Loosely based on Simon Stålenhag's illustrated novel, The Electric State takes place in an alternate version of the 1990s when robots rebelled against humans. Now living in a dystopia where humanity is hooked on virtual reality, a rebellious teenager named Michelle teams up with two robots and a smuggler named Keats to rescue her brother, whom she thought was dead.
The Electric State should have been a hit with Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt headlining, a well-esteemed supporting cast, the Russo brothers directing, and a massive $320 million budget. However, the movie was lambasted with negative critical reviews and made changes from the book that enraged fans. The sci-fi adventure now has a 15% on Rotten Tomatoes...

Family secrets, a love triangle, and self-discovery are just part of the creative tapestry in The Life List, an endearing tale full of “aw shucks” that’s designed to warm hearts. It will, even though the film struggles to land in any one genre. It’s a rom-com, it's a tragic family drama, it’s a mission-driven story with a goal in mind, it’s a coming-of-age story, it’s a "yas queen" girlboss flick, it's… not quite sure what it is. It’s all that and filled with attractive actors, so there's great eye candy all around. And there’s Connie Britton, playing a matriarch determined to make sure her daughter gets her life on track. This film is loaded with warm fuzzies, and the ever-reliable Britton is a believable emotional boost, adding an extra touch of warmth in a story already overflowing with it.

Shifting Gears star Tim Allen has shared a delightful exchange between him and his Toy Story co-star, Tom Hanks, on social media. Allen and Hanks first teamed up 30 years ago for Toy Story (1995), the animated adventure film that was not only nominated for three Oscars, but also grossed over $390 million at the global box office against a $30 million budget. The two have since worked together on every Toy Story movie, even as recently as Toy Story 4 in 2019, which grossed over $1 billion at the worldwide box office. Allen posted two photos on his personal X account, one Hanks sent him of him standing behind the Volkswagen I.D. Buzz, and another that he replied to his co-star, recreating his picture.
While their roles in the Toy Story franchise remain some of the most important in both of their careers, Tim Allen and Tom Hanks have both gone on to accomplish great things as actors.

Taylor Sheridan's array of TV shows like "Yellowstone" and "Landman" and movies like the Denis Villeneuve-directed "Sicario" have made him one of the hottest creators in Hollywood, which means the wildly successful actor-writer-director-producer can afford to speak his mind on many things. As it turns out, some of his stances are so bold that they're bordering on controversial -- at least, when it comes to one particular (and particularly beloved) Tom Hanks movie.
The film in question is "Forrest Gump," the warm-hearted 1994 comedy-drama that gave Hanks his second Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar and truly cemented his status as one of America's all-time acting greats. During a 2024 appearance on "The Joe Rogan Experience" (via Dexerto), Sheridan revealed that he deeply despises the movie due to the way its portrayal of the titular character differs from his own storytelling sensibilities:

Joe Russo, one-half of the sibling powerhouse producing/directing team known as the Russo Brothers, posited that today’s blockbuster versus indie discourse is in large part to Harvey Weinstein’s Oscars campaign playbook.
In a new interview with the U.K.’s The Sunday Times, Russo lamented that popular films’ success at the box office and disproportional losses at the Academy Awards is due to a trend started by the disgraced mogul.
“This trend was started by Harvey Weinstein,” he said. “He vilified mainstream movies to champion the art films he pushed for Oscar campaigns. Popular films were winning Oscars before the mid-Nineties, then Weinstein started mudslinging campaigns … It affected how audiences view the Oscars, because they’ve not seen most of the movies. Science fiction movies built the foundation of the feature film medium at the turn of the century, with Georges Méliès' A Trip to the Moon being one of the first movies that could be considered to be a blockbuster. The best science fiction films have always been the ones that were capable of merging the pure entertainment of seeing fantastical universes and space-faring adventures with themes that reveal something about the human condition.
As one of the most important and influential film critics of all time, Roger Ebert championed science fiction filmmaking that pushed the boundaries of what was previously thought to be possible in the medium, bringing new thrills and ideas to the big screen. According to him, the best science fiction movies tell stories that are both larger-than-life and relatable to a wide audience of viewers.

As a Brit, I may be a little biased when I say this: The opening ceremony for the London 2012 Summer Olympics was the best ever. Directed by Danny Boyle, the usual hour of dancers and acrobats twirling around was spectacular and silly, complete with skits celebrating the Industrial Revolution, the NHS, and the nation's rich cultural scene. Movie buffs also got two special treats: Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean daydreaming about beating the boys from "Chariots of Fire" in their famous beach race, and Queen Elizabeth II making her screen debut opposite Daniel Craig's James Bond before her stunt double sky-dived into the stadium. It was surely the best trailer "Skyfall," which hit theaters a few months later, could have hoped for.
The music of the Fab Four featured heavily during the ceremony, complete with Sir Paul McCartney wrapping things up by leading a sing-a-long to "Hey Jude." As such,...

These days, it's not easy to keep track of all the different streaming services you may be subscribed to. It can take hours to sift through the libraries on Netflix, Prime Video, or Hulu in search of the best movies you can watch for free. Take, for instance, Paramount+. Since it was launched in its current form in 2021, Paramount+ has been a home for original programming like "Halo" and "Knuckles," as well as content from CBS, Nickelodeon, and Showtime.
When opening up the platform's Movies section, it's overwhelming to see the spectrum of films and genres to search through. You could watch classics like "The Godfather" or "Forrest Gump," both of which are currently on Paramount+, but what about films you might not easily find on the front page? From the most iconic films of all time to more recent indie hits, these 15 films will guarantee you a great movie night,...

Best Actor Oscar Winners List (Photo Credit – Instagram/Wikipedia)
The Academy Awards have long vaunted acting titans, and a rare few male actors have commandeered the Best Actor statuette more than once, with Daniel Day-Lewis scaling the peak thrice. From living legends like Tom Hanks to recent winners such as Adrien Brody, 10 men are trailing Day-Lewis’ record. Here is every name with two or more wins in this hallowed category.
1. Daniel Day-Lewis
Sir Daniel Day-Lewis stands alone with three Best Actor Oscars, a feat no other man has matched. His wins were facilitated thanks to dramatic transformations for My Left Foot, There Will Be Blood, and Lincoln—roles that exhibit him as an unforgettable chameleon. The Irish actor has retired since 2017’s Phantom Thread, but his five nominations out of fewer than a couple dozen movies certainly make us wonder whether Day-Lewis could come back for that gold once again...

Here’s Why Tom Hanks Returned His Oscar Awards To The Academy (Photo Credit – Instagram)
One of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors, Tom Hanks, made a surprising move with his two Academy Awards. Years after winning them, he sent them back to the Academy. But the reason wasn’t what most people would expect.
The Forrest Gump star didn’t return them out of protest or regret. Instead, his Oscars were falling apart. The golden statues he won for Philadelphia (1994) and Forrest Gump (1995) had started to corrode due to years of handling. The Academy had a solution, but it wasn’t one Hanks had anticipated.
