Stars: Josh O’Connor, Carol Duarte, Vincenzo Nemolato, Alba Rohrwacher, Isabelle Rossellini, Lou Roy-Lecollinet | Written and Directed by Alice Rohrwacher
Fresh out of jail, Arthur (Josh O’Connor) is a man who seems reluctant to head back to his past, although haunted by his lost love Beniamina. Meeting back up with his rag-tag bunch of friends, Arthur succumbs to the means of living he loves the most — stealing Etruscan artifacts from local graves. Sinking deeper and deeper into his work, Arthur’s quest to find a door to the afterlife becomes overwhelming.
2020s cinema has, so far, been a time of reminiscence. As a collective, we’ve been harking for the 1980s in particular, longing for its synth-based tunes, garish colours, and a future that felt as though anything could happen next. Typically, this manifests in something that looks of its time but clearly is made in the modern day. Instead of a synthetic homage,...

Starting in 1994, Channel 4’s exemplary reality TV series Time Team captured the imaginations of Saturday teatime audiences, coaxing them into the rich and fascinating landscape of the UK’s distant past with the promise of treasure troves of knowledge – and sometimes just plain old treasure – lying just beneath our feet.
Esoteric archaeological terms like ‘geophysics’ and ‘dendrochronology’ quickly entered the common language, as a nation’s eyes were opened to stories that had lain buried sometimes for centuries, sometimes for millennia. Time Team’s brief was to place the viewer side-by-side with the archaeologists in the trenches as they worked, seeing what they saw, sharing in their discoveries, and feeling what they felt. There were no gimmicks save the central one – the team had only three days in which to survey and investigate a site – which was necessary to prevent episodes lasting over six weeks, and the show’s editors having a mental breakdown.

As the Timeless series finale neared its end and the Time Team scored its biggest win yet, captured nemesis Emma dangled one last tease before Lucy: the prospect of getting back the sister who vanished from the timeline at the close of the Season 1 premiere.
“Wait — I can bring Amy back.”
“She’s lying,” Lucy (played by Abigail Spencer) scoffed.
“Try me,” Emma (Annie Wersching) countered. “I only [removed Amy from existence] because your mother ordered me to. But I can undo it. It means nothing to me and everything to you….”
“I want all of this to be over.”
“And you want your sister back.

Warning: spoilers for the Timeless movie ahead.
We thought we were ready for the Timeless movie, but we were completely wrong. While the two-hour movie was filled with many twists and turns (including the death of a fan-favorite character), it was the final moments that really had us bawling our eyes out. After the Time Team defeats Rittenhouse once and for all, they must go on one more mission to make sure history stays intact.
In the flash-forward to 2023, Wyatt, Lucy, and Rufus travel to Christmas Eve in 2014, when the whole story began. In a bar in São Paulo, Brazil, future Lucy fulfills her destiny by giving Flynn her journal and telling him how he will eventually take down Rittenhouse. While she reveals that he won't get his family back in the end, he still decides to follow through with his mission.
And boom! We end right where we began in the pilot,...

Warning: major spoilers for the Timeless movie ahead.
During the season two finale of Timeless, the Time Team was left with one mission: to save Rufus. While they eventually accomplished their mission during the two-hour movie, it wasn't without a few casualties. After receiving Lucy's journal from the future Lucy and Wyatt, present-day Lucy and Wyatt are left to figure out how to change history and get Rufus back. However, once they finally put it together, they realize it comes at a big cost. In order to make sure that Rufus never dies, Wyatt's wife, Jessica, has to be eliminated from the timeline . . . for good.
While Wyatt eventually decides he will be the one to do the job, Flynn makes an interesting point: if he and Lucy end up dying during the mission, who will be left to save the rest of the world from Rittenhouse? And with that thought in mind,...

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for the “Timeless” series finale, “The Miracle of Christmas.”]
In the series finale for “Timeless,” the show’s six primary cast members gather inside their base and we see an inclusive team of smart, good people who formed a second family while hopping around the past. It’s a simple scene, but one that suggests why the NBC time travel drama was special. While it might have ended too early — especially when you consider how many great series peak in Season 3 and beyond — but “Timeless” was a show that quickly won over an intense, Leslie Jones-led fanbase that was attracted to the show’s progressive storytelling, likable cast (led by the always-stellar Abigail Spencer), and just like Rufus (Malcolm Barnett), the show just couldn’t stay dead.
Thus, following two separate cancelations, we have a grand finale that picks up right where the last episode left off and moves us forward years into the future. Sticking the landing for any series is tough,...

The holidays can be filled with happiness and melancholy. So it’s only fitting that TVLine’s exclusive first look at the Timeless series finale features the Time Team sharing a rather somber-looking toast near their Christmas tree.

This Doctor Who review contains spoilers.
Doctor Who Season 11 Episode 2
After "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" aired last week, fans were left with some lingering questions. Chief among them: what would the new opening look like (assuming the show wasn’t going the way of so many modern TV series and doing away with a proper title sequence altogether), and how long would it be before we got to see the Tardis? Despite Chris Chibnall’s best efforts to sow seeds of doubt in interviews that the Doctor’s trusty ship may never return, we get satisfying answers to both questions in this week’s episode, "The Ghost Monument."
So, what of that opening sequence? Since the show’s revival in 2005, it's always been fairly clear what we've been...

“Timeless” isn’t fading into history just yet. NBC has struck a deal with Sony Pictures TV to wrap up the series — which ended its second season with a major cliffhanger — via a two-part finale that will air during the holiday season.
The “Timeless” wrap-up comes after NBC canceled the show this May, and Sony Pictures TV tried but couldn’t maneuver a third season renewal at another outlet.
In a press release, executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke promised “one final emotional story for the Time Team.”
“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of ‘Timeless,’ this is the next best thing,” the duo said in a joint statement. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it.

(This post was originally published on February 20.) (Note: This post contains spoilers for the season finale of “Timeless.”) In quite the shocking twist, NBC canceled “Timeless” only to change its mind and renew it a couple days later. Which is great, because the first season of the delightful time travel drama left a whole bunch of dangling plot threads, and so there will be plenty of time travel conundrums for the Time Team to deal with once they resume hopping through history. Flynn’s in custody, Rittenhouse has the Mothership, and secret villains are revealed. There are also some interesting sci-fi puzzles to deal.

The hazard of traveling through time attempting to preserve history in “Timeless” is the many opportunities to mess up. The show’s protagonists, Lucy (Abigail Spencer), Rufus (Malcolm Barrett) and Wyatt (Matt Lanter), are always one step behind villain Garcia Flynn (Goran Visnjic) as he gallivants across American history. Flynn’s ultimate goal: destroy the Illuminati-like organization known as Rittenhouse. He’s willing to ruin any historical moment to do it, and while the time travel team attempts to stop him, they’re usually not completely successful. Even when the trio, which Rufus dubs the “Time Team,” thwart Flynn’s plans,...

Do the films that scared us in our youth, from Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Blair Witch Project - still get under the skin?
Spoilers for each of the movies mentioned in the assorted subheads lie within
Are scary movies as scary as they used to be? Did the movies that scared you as a child still scare you when you watched them as an adult?
As a very young child, my fear-reflex was helped along by my older cousins, who used to lock me in a room with films like The Amityville Horror and Poltergeist playing through a too-high-to-reach television. It was like being trapped in a PG version of Saw: “Want to play a game? Find a way to reach the VHS player and stop the Poltergeist tape before the clown pops out from under the bed, or be left with life-long phobias and mental instability.

Sometimes a news story hits the web that ticks all the right boxes. They can be hard to be cynical about. This is one of those occasions.
Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and The Shield creator Shawn Ryan are teaming up to develop a new series called Time, which they’ve described as ‘Back To The Future meets Mission: Impossible.’
The two talented writers - who could be called the 'Time Team,' if that name wasn't already taken by a show about digging - have landed a pilot production order at NBC. They’ll now be looking to find a cast and a director to bring a taster of their vision to life.
The show will focus on “an unlikely trio traveling through time to battle unknown...

In recent years there has been a real boom in documentaries surrounding popular culture. Films such as Electric Boogaloo, Video Nasties, The Search for Weng Weng and Adjust Your Tracking have captured the zeitgeist of fans across the globe, and in turn inspired more people to create their own documentaries about pop culture subjects that matter to them…
But not all these documentaries see the same success. Having been on something of a documentary kick lately, I thought I’d break down the ten of the best little-known, or better yet little-discussed, pop-culture documentaries from the many, many examples I have been watching. So here they are and, for once, they’re in order:
1) Slaughter Nick For President
There’s a good reason this film is at the top of my list. This is the documentary that kicked off my exploration of pop culture documentaries (eventually ending up at compliling this list) and,...

As a kid growing up I can safely say we were dirt poor. When all the kids were playing the Atari 2600 I was stuck playing “Tennis” and “Football” on a hand-me-down Grandstand plug and play (think of Pong with 4 games rather than one); I did have a cousin who had the system but he wasn’t the sharing type. So the entire early-to-mid 80s Atari phenomenon kind of passed me by. It wasn’t until years later, towards the end of the 90s, that actually ever played my first Atari 2600 game – on a very early emulator no less. In the years that followed, as the internet grew and the retro video gaming “community” grew along with it, the story of buried E.T. video games – the last remnants of Atari’s stranglehold on the video game market of the late 70s/early 80s – went somewhat viral, which was the first...

To Go Viking
To Go Viking follows the Texas arm of the Jomsborg Elag (clan) as the train and prepare for fighting in Europe, specifically 17th International Slavs and Vikings Festival at Wolin, Poland. We learn how much some members have sacrificed, for example to choosing to eschew material objects in exchange to spend money on weaponry and training. We also see how the Jomsborg Elag come together in Poland, ready to face off the other clans.
This was interesting for about half hour but after that it gets pretty repetitive. The fights get more brutal towards the end when the Russians and Slavs get involved but otherwise nothing new happens throughout, just different settings and different people fighting. It keeps you watching just out of hope that it gets more interesting, maybe somebody gets really hurt or something, but nope.
If you’re interested in Viking re-enactments and you...

Sir Tony Robinson has spoken of his "journey of discovery" while filming his latest Discovery Channel series.
Tony Robinson's World War I will see the Blackadder and Time Team star documenting the war using the recent discovery of thousands of 3D stereoscopic images taken at the time.
Action sequences and interviews with historians will tell the story of the Great War, with each episode focusing on a different year of the conflict.
Speaking to Digital Spy, Robinson said that he was amazed so many 3D photographs had been found.
"I didn't know anything about it, I don't think many people did know that all these 3D images existed," he said. "I was approached at the beginning of the year and I thought they would be talking about five photos or something.
"But there's hundreds of thousands of these bloody things out there, but no-one has ever catalogued them or...

A Time Team campaign for a one-off dig in memory of Mick Aston has now attracted over 5,000 signatures.
Supporters of Lee Brady's campaign can sign a change.org petition asking Channel 4 to commission the one-off #DIG4MICK special as tribute to Aston, who died last June at the age of 66.
Tony Robinson previously said of the campaign: "I'm part of it behind the scenes. Who knows?"
He added: "I think it would be a wonderful thing to do. Mick, as most of you will know, left Time Team in a bit of a grump - he left every organisation he ever worked for in a bit of a grump - so it's quite extraordinary he spent 20 years with us before he did.
"I would love to see one final Time Team conducted in the very best way it possibly could be, and let's hope the Time Team campaign succeeds.

Time Team
In Indiana Jones, archaeologists are portrayed as heavily armed treasure hunters who’ll stop at nothing to uncover a rare artifact. Channel 4′s Time Team provides us with a more realistic view of archaeology that involves less explosions but no lack of excitement. Blackadder funny man, Tony Robinson has been fronting the documentary series for the last 20 years and neither he, nor his audience are showing any signs of fatigue. Athena Learning’s new DVD release of Time Team: The Team’s Favorite Digs, features eight intriguing episodes that were handpicked by the cast and crew.
Unlike Indiana Jones, Tony Robinson’s group sometimes come home empty-handed. Once or twice, they even get led up the garden path by hoaxers who plant historic relics in their backyard’s. In this DVD set, we get to see Tony’s team cleverly expose one such scam. The items...

Time Team's Professor Mick Aston has died at the age of 66.
The archaeologist featured on the Channel 4 series from 1994 until 2011.
Confirming the news, the show's official Twitter account posted on Monday: "It is with a very heavy heart that we've been informed that our dear colleague Mick Aston has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family."
The exact cause of his death has yet to be determined.
Co-star and friend Phil Harding explained that Aston had been suffering health problems but that his death still came as a tremendous shock.
"It just seems so incredible, like a bad dream, but unfortunately this is no dream," The Guardian quotes Harding as saying.
"He was a seriously good mate and a seriously good archaeologist, a unique man. Everybody loved him, he just had a way with people.
"I cannot believe there was anybody who disliked him, he just had such a relaxed way.

Deacon Jones, considered one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history, died of natural causes in his Southern California home. He was 74 years old at the time of his death.
David "Deacon" Jones" played professional football for the Los Angeles Rams, the San Diego Chargers and the Washington Redskins for 14 seasons between 1961 and 1974. Nicknamed the "Secretary of Defense," Jones was known for specializing in quarterback sacks -- he is even considered the originator of that term.
A 14th-round draftee by the Los Angeles Rams in 1961, Jones immediately became part of one of the best defensive lines in NFL history, the "Fearsome Foursome," along with Merlin Olsen, Rosey Grier and Larry Lundy.
During his football career, Deacon Jones won All-Pro honors annually between 1965 and 1968, plus 8 Pro Bowl honors and two honors as the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year.
The player continued to receive accolades even after his NFL career ended.
