Bloc Party are back with a new single, “Flirting Again.”
The new track arrives ahead of the band’s performance at Glastonbury this upcoming weekend, as well as the band’s major show at London’s Crystal Palace Park on July 7th, which will serve as Bloc Party’s largest headlining show to-date.
With a thumping, frequently escalating groove, “Flirting Again” is a dance-punk ode to finding love and getting some flirting on. However, even in the band’s bright hues, some genuine darkness reveals itself: “Sent a text to my ex on Valentine’s Day/ But nothing came back so I fuck the pain away,” sings Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke.
“’Flirting Again’ is about being thrust back into the scene and trying to remember how it all works,” Kele Okereke said in a press release. “It’s about trying to appear desirable, whilst at the same time hiding the hurt that defines you.

Tori Spelling’s Shocking 2024 Net Worth
Growing up, Tori Spelling lived a lavish life. Her father was famed writer and producer Aaron Spelling. He was known for shows such as The Mod Squad, Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Beverly Hills, 90210, and Melrose Place. “I did not know that we were going to do that,” admits Joseph Gordon-Levitt about his unconventional first day in Ireland to film “Flora and Son.” For our recent webchat he explains, “So I showed up in Ireland and we’re scheduled to start shooting, but a couple days before, we had some recording studio time booked. I show up at the recording studio, and this is exciting, I’m an actor, I don’t usually get to go to a recording studio,” he recalls. “‘What are we recording today?’ And [director] John’s like, ‘I don’t know, we’re going to figure that out.’ That day, Eve and John, and John’s musical partner Gary, the four of us, made a song together in a day.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“I was terrified. This was the last thing I’ve ever wanted to do in my life! Honestly, I would rather swim with sharks,” admits “Flora and Son” star Eve Hewson about singing live on-screen. “But the part was so good. Working with John was so good. I had to do it, I just had to get over it. And, I just went for it and I’m really glad I did, because I didn’t have that much to worry about!.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Almost seven years to the day since it began, we’re about to give a royal wave of farewell to Netflix drama The Crown, but series six might be its most eye-opening yet, as its first part (out on November 16) deals with the events surrounding the tragic death of Princess Diana.
Some critics’ hackles might be up already after the show previously attracted condemnation for historical inaccuracies, so it will be especially interesting to see how the show covers such an emotive and important event in royal history, and just where the story ends when the final episodes are released on 14th December.
Even so, many fans will be disappointed not to see more recent events get The Crown treatment, like that Prince Andrew interview and Harry and Meghan’s very public royal uncoupling, but is it so far beyond the realms of possibility that the show might have a...

Bloc Party are returning with a new EP called The High Life EP, out on July 21st via Infectious/BMG.
Although the full four-song tracklist has yet to be revealed, Bloc Party did drop the title track back in April and followed up earlier this month with their first-ever collaboration, “Keep It Rolling” with KennyHoopla.
“When we were invited on the Paramore tour, we really wanted to get together and capture where the band was at and share that music,” said frontman Kele Okereke in a press release. “We got in the studio with our friend Charlie Andrew and this EP was the result — we’re very proud of these four tracks and they hopefully offer a little bridge between Alpha Games and what’s next for the band. To me, it’s the sound of coming out of the wilderness and re-embracing life.”

“Under the Tuscan Sun” meets “The Godfather” in the latest comedy from multi-hyphenate Toni Collette.
The “Hereditary” star plays an insecure American who inherits her grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy in “Mafia Mamma,” directed by Catherine Hardwicke. Guided by the firm’s trusted consigliere (Monica Bellucci), Collette hilariously defies everyone’s expectations, including her own, as the new head of the family business.
Giulio Corso, Francesco Mastroianni, Alfonso Perugini, Sophia Nomvete, Eduardo Scarpetta, Tim Daish, and Tommy Rodger also star.
Hardwicke directs from a script by Michael J. Feldman and Debbie Jhoon. Lead star Collette produces along with Christopher Simon and Amanda Sthers.
Hardwicke previously told IndieWire’s Kate Erbland that she strives to emphasize “complex female characters” onscreen.

In the grand tradition of contemporary Chinese independent cinema, a woman heads to the big city to make her fortune in the new economic world order and is eventually forced to resort to prostitution in Belgian filmmaker Olivier Meys’ feature debut, Bitter Flowers. The significant difference this time around is that the city is Paris and the story is about the woman, not her boyfriend (see: Zhao Dayong’s The High Life), and is told from her point of view. Suggesting Beijing can’t provide for its own could make the film a hard sell in China, though the Belgium-Switzerland-France-China co-production could...

Looking back at Jeff Goldblum and Laurence Fishburne wearily fighting the war on drugs 25 years ago.
This Monday marked the 25th anniversary of the release of Deep Cover, itself an endpoint of the preceding quarter-century. It bears a deep weariness, beset by crime, racism, and, increasingly, the American government itself. Every frame of the film is soaked in that weariness, and its script explicitly addresses it, as the entire business of its story turns out to be that of the American government’s profit from the illegal drug trade, with then-president George H.W. Bush and the former president of Panama, the notorious CIA operative Manuel Noriega addressed by name.
That it’s ostensibly a crime thriller, a genre picture, makes Deep Cover all the more effective a messenger. In his last film billed as “Larry” — while we’re talking about culmination — Laurence Fishburne stars as a young police officer who, as...

Pedro Almodóvar's air steward farce could be some kind of national allegory – but the great director's real interest lies in returning to the good-natured sex comedy of his youth
Pedro Almodóvar's new film is a cheeky comedy about stressy homosexuals in an aeroplane going round and round in the sky without getting anywhere. There are some stressy heterosexuals as well. They are theoretically menaced by a danger that no one, least of all the audience, is taking all that seriously. The movie is Almodóvar's satirical venting of national exasperation with the economy, the king and perhaps even Spain itself – a troubled country that the plane is making its hazardous and entirely ineffective attempt to leave. But finally it's less ambitious than that: more like a lark, a small-scale domestic flight that returns the director, inevitably, to his favourite, hedonistic concerns of sexual identity and sexual transgression.
In the opening credits,...

Having nabbed a Spirit Award for best first screenplay earlier this year for his semi-autobiographical "50/50," Will Reiser is making what's come to be a common next step into television. According to Entertainment Weekly, Reiser and his sister Robin have sold a half-hour comedy pilot to NBC. The sitcom, titled "The High Life," sounds like it will follow in the same vein of tragicomedy as his film. Per EW, it "centers on a newly sober mother and wife who must deal with life’s many stresses — without drinking." The Reisers, who are cousins to comedian Paul Reiser, will serve as writers and executive producers of the pilot. Jake Kasdan, Jj Philbin and Willie Mercer will also executive produce. At the time the site only had a placeholder, but with viral mailings being sent out, the site has launched in proper and now allows users to sign-up, become a Looper, participate in missions as well as win/receive prizes. While it's blatantly connected to the movie, this is still a pretty damn cool viral. The site can be found at LooperNetwork.com and now features a front portal with login through Facebook. Chicago – Director Oliver Stone sees a controversy, and comments on a controversy, in his own distinctive cinematic style. The new film “Savages” is no exception, taking on the U.S./Mexican marijuana wars, with performances by Blake Lively, Taylor Kitsch, Aaron Johnson, Salma Hayek and John Travolta.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
The story of intrigue and kidnapping in the marijuana trade is the surface story, underneath is Stone’s statement on how much energy, law enforcement resources and lives are used up trying to keep a product that people want out of their hands. The endgame on pot prohibition is coming – as John Travolta’s DEA character points out – but before that underground money stream is cut off, people will be tortured, shot, blown up and psychologically ruined, all in the ironic pursuit of providing an outlook altering and wholly available buzz.
Chon (Taylor Kitsch), Ben (Aaron Johnson) and Ophelia (Blake Lively) are living the pure California dream.

Criterion releases Kiss Me Deadly on DVD and Blu-ray today and, for the occasion, they're running an essay by J Hoberman adapted from his book, An Army of Phantoms: American Movies and the Making of the Cold War: "Genres collide in the great Hollywood movies of the mid fifties cold-war thaw. With the truce in Korea and the red scare on the wane, ambitious directors seemed freer to mix and match and even ponder the new situation. The western goes south in The Searchers; the cartoon merges with the musical in The Girl Can't Help It. Science fiction becomes pop sociology in Invasion of the Body Snatchers. And noir veers into apocalyptic sci-fi in Robert Aldrich's 1955 masterpiece Kiss Me Deadly, which, briefly described, tracks one of the sleaziest, stupidest, most bru tal detectives in American movies through a nocturnal, inexplicably violent labyrinth to a white-hot vision of cosmic annihilation.

In fact, for the most part, we know Alan Cumming as the outstandingly flamboyant funny man. It has been that way since his early acting days. After a stint as a wood cutter in 'Take the High Road' all the way back in 1980, Cumming entertained a number of television and indie film stints that finally brought him...

In the rock world, December 8 tends to be remembered as the day that Mark David Chapman shot John Lennon in the back four times outside of his apartment building in New York City, killing the former Beatle and ending a musical era. But fans of heavy music hold today as the anniversary of an equally senseless tragedy. On this day in 2004, former Pantera guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott was shot and killed while on stage playing guitar with his band Damageplan in Columbus, Ohio. The shooter, a guy named Nathan Gale who also killed three other people at the venue, was shot and killed by police at the scene. It's uncertain what Gale's reasoning was for the attack, though investigators later found that he was a paranoid schizophrenic whose journals suggested that he was deeply disturbed and was convinced Dimebag was stealing his thoughts.
The legacy of "Dimebag" Darrell cannot be understated.

Winslet Shuns The High Life For Kids
Kate Winslet refuses to hire a nanny or a chef because she wants her children to have a normal upbringing.
The Titanic star is desperate for her kids - eight-year-old Mia from her first marriage to director Jim Threapleton, and five-year-old Joe with husband Sam Mendes - to grow up away from the movie star bubble.
And although she's tempted to live in the lap of luxury, she is keeping it real for the sake of her children.
Winslet says, "I don't have the perfect life. There are things I could implement within my life that would probably make it easier. But I deliberately don't do it because if I did, I would be living that movie star existence that I really try and resist.
"I mean, it's very tempting to have a nanny and live in a gated community and have a chef - I'd love to have a few dinners cooked for me. But I don't want that for my children.
"When they're older, if people say to them, 'Did you have a chef?' I want them to be shocked by the question."...
