Mark Ruffalo's film debut came in 1994, when he appeared as a seductive and possibly supernatural super-hunk named Christian who periodically appears to Tracy Wells in the horror sequel "Mirror Mirror II: Raven Dance." The producers, likely pleased with his performance also hired Ruffalo to play a brand-new role in "Mirror Mirror III: The Voyeur." In that film, he played a sexy moving truck worker named Joey. Ruffalo did not appear in "Mirror Mirror 4: Reflections."
Despite starring in the "Mirror Mirror" movies, as well as the gore flick "The Dentist," Ruffalo had a pretty varied early career. He appeared in the '60s-set coming-of-age drama "There Goes My Baby" in 1994, the indie comedy "Safe Men" in 1998, and the Oscar Bait biopic "54" that same year. He worked with Ang Lee in 1999's "Ride with the Devil," but exploded into the pop consciousness with his memorable performance in Kenneth Lonergan...

In a new episode of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs, Carole King discussed her multiple entries on the list, both her solo hits and ones she co-penned with ex-husband and creative partner Gerry Goffin. Among them is the Shirelles’ “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” the 1960 girl group classic that came to define the era.
King describes in detail how writing with Goffin worked. In this case, Goffin had penned the first verse, which then made the music pour out of King almost immediately. She notes that the song sounded quite country at first,...

In between the explosive performances and touching speeches, the BET Awards were evangelized with an emotional performance by Will Smith, a killer speech by Killer Mike and host Taraji P. Henson reminding viewers to get out and vote in the upcoming presidential election.
Performing in a circle of fire backed by the Sunday Service Choir and R&b singer Friday, Smith rapped his new song “You Can Make It,” seeming to address the rough patch he experienced personally and professionally after slapping Chris Rock at the Academy Awards two years ago. “I’m here to tell you, you can make it,” he told the audience at the Peacock Theater at the top of the performance, which ended with this message: “Dance in your darkest moments.”

Usher was honored with the lifetime achievement award Sunday night at the 2024 BET Awards with an all-star tribute performance, followed by a speech heavy on self-reflection that emphasized forgiveness and fatherhood.
Legendary producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis came onstage to present the tribute, which started with a video showing a montage of Usher’s career, which began in his early teens and included an energetic performance at the Super Bowl earlier this year. The video featured praise from the likes of Kevin Hart, Toni Braxton, L.A. Reid, Jermaine Dupri, Janelle Monáe and Jennifer Hudson.
Following the video, Childish Gambino — the alter ego of Donald Glover — kicked off a performance tribute with a slowed-down rendition of “U Don’t Have to Call.” Keke Palmer then joined him onstage as the song picked up the tempo. Palmer then segued into “You Make Me Wanna….”

Usher is opening up about how special it is for him to be able to give R&b music the spotlight during his Super Bowl Lviii halftime performance.
During an interview with Good Morning America on Friday, the “There Goes My Baby” singer said it was an “adrenaline high” when he first got the call that he was going to be the halftime performer at the biggest NFL game of the year.
But then when it came to putting in the work to create a memorable show, Usher said he knew he wanted to pay homage to Black artists who came before him and helped pave the way so that he could be the musician to headline a major entertainment event like the Super Bowl halftime show.
“I think about what our country has kind of represented for Black artists, you know, having to at some point go through kitchens...

Darius Jackson is speaking out after news of his split with Keke Palmer broke.
Palmer and Jackson, who met in 2021, welcomed their son, Leodis, in February. The pair went public with their romance in 2021 when Palmer shared pictures of her kissing Jackson during a birthday celebration.
Things went awry after Jackson publicly shamed Palmer for the outfit she wore at an Usher concert. In July, the 29-year-old actress attended Usher’s My Way Las Vegas residency. For the occasion — which saw her being personally serenaded by the singer — Palmer wore a sheer black dress over a matching thong bodysuit.
Jackson seemingly shamed Palmer for wearing the sexy outfit in a tweet that featured a viral video of Palmer and Usher embracing while the R&b singer sang his hit, “There Goes My Baby”, to the “Nope” actress.
“It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom,” Jackson wrote.

Keke Palmer seems to be shading Darius Jackson with her appearance in Usher’s new music video.
Last month, Jackson publicly called out Palmer, the mother of their son, for the outfit she wore to Usher’s Las Vegas residency show, basically saying it wasn’t mom-appropriate, especially after she got invited on stage by Usher so he could serenade her to his hit “There Goes My Baby” — a regular stunt during his shows.
Usher reacted to the incident after Jackson’s comment sparked online controversy, calling it “a pop culture moment” that is “worth talking about.”

If you plan to attend Usher's "My Way" Las Vegas residency, you'll want to arrive early because you don't want to miss the preshow dance party courtesy of his unmatched fans. As I walked into the Park MGM arena for the show I was attending in late June, my ears were greeted with classic R&b and hip-hop songs like Tevin Campbell's "Can We Talk" and Miguel's "Adorn You" as a DJ encouraged us to stand, dance, and sing along with the rest of the audience. Usher's dancers even came out and interacted with the audience, inviting some lucky attendees to dance with them on stage. The vibes felt more like a house party with all of my best friends than a concert surrounded by strangers. So much so that I didn't even realize the show was starting.

Usher thinks that the drama between Keke Palmer and her boyfriend Darius Jackson surrounding her appearance at the Usher: My Way Las Vegas residency show is “a pop culture moment” that is “worth talking about.”
The 44-year-old performer made headlines in July when Palmer, 29, attended his show in a sheer dress with a bodysuit underneath. Usher invited Palmer on stage where he serenaded her while singing his hit “There Goes My Baby.”
At the time, Palmer’s boyfriend and the father of her child, Darius Jackson, called out her look, writing, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.”
The comment sparked controversy online with fans taking sides. Usher claimed that he was labeled a “domestic terrorist” online following the incident.
“I think everybody’s vision or a version of what they felt happened there just leads you back to just really having a good time in Las Vegas,” Usher told People of the incident.

Keke Palmer’s Boyfriend Darius Jackson Opens Up About Their Romance And Feeling Overwhelmed At Times
Before Darius Jackson seemingly imploded his relationship with Keke Palmer when he shamed her for wearing a sexy outfit at an Usher concert, the (former?) couple appeared to be on the same page when it came to maintaining the privacy of their relationship.
That much they agreed on in the latest episode of “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” Wondery podcast, which was recorded before Jackson found himself embroiled in controversy, forcing him to delete his Twitter account and delete all of his previous Instagram posts with Palmer (except for this one) from his account. They also no longer follow each other on Instagram.
In that episode — featuring Palmer’s mom, Sharon — the 29-year-old actress asked Jackson how he felt at first about making their relationship public. Jackson spoke about the angst he felt, at least at first.
“At first, it definitely was hard because it could all be very overwhelming,...

Darius Daulton Jackson has seemingly deleted all traces of Keke Palmer from his Instagram account after publicly shaming her online.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that Jackson deactivated his Instagram account Wednesday following the backlash he received for calling out his partner, and upon his return fans pointed out that photos of Palmer had been removed. Photos of their newborn son, Leodis, however, remained on his grid.
The drama began Wednesday evening after a viral video of Palmer in a see-through outfit at Usher’s Las Vegas residency show over the Fourth of July holiday surfaced online.
Jackson seemingly shamed Palmer for wearing the sexy fit, in a tweet that featured a viral video of Palmer and the singer embracing while the R&b singer serenaded the “Nope” actress with his hit, “There Goes My Baby.”

Soul and R&b legend Charlie Wilson delivered a delightful, career-spanning set in the latest installment of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.
Wilson, a host of musicians, and a cadre of backup vocalists squeezed into the NPR offices for the performance, which opened an apt fitting introduction: “Charlie, Last Name Wilson,” the beatific title-track from Wilson’s 2005 album. Mary Wilson, a founding member of the Supremes, died on Monday at her home in Las Vegas. She was 76. Wilson’s publicist, Jay Schwartz, confirmed the singer’s death to Rolling Stone, but did not reveal a cause.

Ralph Tresvant is nearly overwhelmed by the strength of his affections on new single “All Mine.” For added firepower, the singer recruits his old group-mate Johnny Gill, who attacks the backing vocalist role with his characteristic intensity.
“All Mine” is co-written and produced by Gregg Pagani, who also has credits on overlooked gems like New Edition’s “This One’s For Me and You” and Charlie Wilson’s “There Goes My Baby.” While those were cheerfully mid-tempo, Tresvant’s latest single is a low-and-slow ballad, full of plush keys and light snaps.

As the lead singer of L.T.D. in the second half of the Seventies and then a solo act with more than a dozen R&B hits, Jeffrey Osborne has enjoyed his fair share of commercial glory.

Miranda Lambert apparently has some serious competition.

The blind auditions continued on The Voice with two standouts, rocker Megan Ruger and soulful Audra McLaughlin, going Team Blake. Judges Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira and Usher had an uneven night with Part 4 of the blind auditions. Shakira picked up a few artists, as did Usher and Blake, but Adam ended the episode with as many artists as he started with.
Megan Ruger, 26, a young country rocker was first up on The Voice stage. Her pre-audition package was about her relationship with her adoptive father, who adopted her when she was a baby, and their close bond. Megan went with Pink’s “Just Like A Pill,” her voice deep and smoother than Pink’s raspy edge. Blake and Usher both pushed their buttons at the last second. Usher was immediately discouraged when Megan said she was from Nashville, which is Blake’s city of choice, and, indeed, Megan ended up Team Blake.

The theme for this year’s B-Movie, Underground and Trash Film Festival, held in the city of Breda in the Netherlands, is “Apocalypse.” So get ready to watch the world end dozens of different ways on Sept. 5-9 at various venues around the city.
The fun kicks off on the 5th with the German movie Hell by director Tim Fehlbaum. If you didn’t know, “hell” means “bright” in German and, given that title, this flick is set appropriately in a post-apocalyptic future where global warming has decimated the planet and surviving tribes battle for water and food.
Other post-apocalyptic visions include Milan Konjevic’s Zone of the Dead starring legendary zombie killer Ken Foree; Davi de Oliveira Pinheiro’s Bazillian underground hit Beyond the Grave about a world where magic and madness rule the world; and Rob van Eyck’s bizarrely twisted Afterman and Afterman 2.

Last night, Fox's American Idol proved there is life after Simon Cowell by beating its own ratings for not only last week, but last season's comparable episode as well.
On last night's episode, the final four competitors took on songs by legendary songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who wrote such classics as "There Goes My Baby," "Yakety Yak," "Hound Dog" and "Jailhouse Rock," just to name a few. Oh, and "Stand By Me." Can't forget that one. In any case, Idol outperformed last week and last year. It was up 5% from last week, and it beat last season's top four episode by 1%, with 24.96 million viewers. Looks like Idol still has some blood flowing through its veins, even after all these years. I imagine the show will be around for a long time yet to come.

Lady Gaga is coming to "American Idol" for the Top 4 next week, not only as a performer for the results show, but also as a mentor for Leiber and Stoller week.
It's an interesting week to have Gaga as the mentor, since she very much the hot thing right now and Leiber and Stoller songs are largely from the 1950s and 1960s. But maybe having someone as off-the-wall as Gaga will help the Idols not be too old-fashioned with their oldies theme.
And - this past week the Idols did the "Now and Then" theme and overall, the oldies were better than the new songs, so Leiber and Stoller might be alright. Their hits include "There Goes My Baby," "Hound Dog," "Yakety Yak," "Stand By Me" (with Ben E. King), "Jailhouse Rock," "Love Potion No. 9," "I'm a Woman" and "On Broadway."
