When I first moved to New York in 2017, I made a work friend who quickly became a close friend. One of the many things we bonded over was a shared love of John Travolta's lesser known movies. More specifically, I was impressed at how much joy my new friend was able to derive from the actor's career. I'd be lying if I said that joy stemmed from a genuine appreciation of the man's work, but I think he harbored a strange kind of respect for Travolta, as if any man who could put out "Look Who's Talking Now" or "Gotti" and still maintain some sort of career was deserving of admiration. As such, we planned a massive Travolta marathon which we sadly never got around to.
But if we ever did get around to taking a journey through the dregs of Travolta's career, Rotten Tomatoes might be a decent guide.

Tim McGovern, a visual effects veteran who earned an Oscar for his work on 1990’s Total Recall, died Saturday. He was 68.
His wife, Reena NeGandhi, posted the news on Facebook.
“Today is the saddest day of my life,” she wrote. “My Husband Tim McGovern, an Oscar winner for the VFX in 1990’s for Total Recall and several more awards from the Ves has died today. He passed away in his sleep.”
A digital effects pioneer, McGovern was a Visual Effects Society board member for nearly two decades. He served as vice chair as well as founding co-chair of the Ves Awards committee. In October, McGovern received the Ves Founders Award and was bestowed lifetime Ves membership.
“We were saddened and shocked by the sudden news of Tim’s untimely passing,” said Kim Davidson, Ves chair. “Tim and I have been Ves members and colleagues for many years, and his passion...

The news that Bruce Willis will be stepping away from his acting career due to a diagnosis of the neurodegenerative disease aphasia brought with it a renewed appreciation for the work of one of the biggest pop culture stars of our lifetimes. Here are 10 roles that helped define Willis’ often-brilliant career:
Moonlighting (ABC, 1985-89)
Do bears bare? Do bees be? Do bartenders become overnight sensations? Willis was basically unknown when Moonlighting creator Glen Gordon Caron hired him to play quippy private detective David Addison opposite Cybill Shepherd as uptight former fashion model Maddie Hayes.

When you’re a streaming service, there’s only one way to celebrate the New Year. And that’s by IP mining to bring back a franchise that had no business in coming back!
With its list of new releases for January 2022, Hulu is raiding CBS’s closet and premiering How I Met Your Father, a continuation of the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Complaints about unnecessary rebooting aside, perhaps its worth giving the Hillary Duff starring series a chance. If nothing else, telling a story about 2022 from a future perspective might play well.
Aside from Himyf, there aren’t any other Hulu original series to speak of. Instead, Hulu is opting to once again beef up its film library. January 1 sees the arrival of Master and Commander, Seven, and a whole bunch of Star Treks. Hulu will also be the streaming home of some recently released film Indies,...

Beloved screen and stage actress Olympia Dukakis died May 1 at the age of 89. The news of the Oscar winner’s passing was shared by her brother, Apollo Dukakis, on Facebook. “My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City. After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis,” Apollo wrote. Her husband, actor Louis Zorich, died in 2018 at the age of 93.
Olympia Dukakis starred in more than 130 stage productions, as well as more than 60 films and 50 television series. She won her Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1988 for her role in “Moonstruck” as Rose Castorini. She won a Golden Globe for the film as well, and received Emmy Award nominations for “Lucky Day” (1991), “More Tales of the City” (1998), and “Joan of Arc” (1999). A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.
Thankfully Hulu’s library titles are a bit livelier this month. Jan. 1 sees the arrival of Blade Runner: The Final Cut,...

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.
There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. For dramas, there’s Robert Downey Jr. biopic Chaplin, Johnny Depp vehicle Donnie Brasco and Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show.

What a confession! While appearing on the reality TV show Celebrity Big Brother UK, Kirstie Alley candidly opened up about her longtime friendship with John Travolta — and revealed she once "ran off and married" him! "I think I kissed Travolta. I almost ran off and married John. I did love him, I still love him. If I hadn’t been married I would’ve gone and married him and I would’ve been in an airplane because he has his own plane," the 67-year-old actress said. Kirstie and John, 64, have been close for years, mostly due to their shared involvement with Scientology. They've also co-starred in three movies together: 1989's Look Who's Talking, 1990's Look Who's Talking Too, and 1993's Look Who's Talking Now. (Photo Credit: Getty Images) During a 2013 interview with Howard Stern, Kirstie also spoke out about her relationship with John and said he also had romantic feelings...

Following a string of flops, Vaughn should look to Bill Murray and Will Ferrell for a lesson in reviving a career
One of the favourite stars in the Us appears to be in descent. Vince Vaughn, once a box-office record breaker, with a string of hits topped in 2005 by Wedding Crashers, has underperformed as a lead in his last few movies. The Dilemma and The Watch both disappointed financially, (just about making their money back with around $70m (£42.5m) and $68m, respectively, worldwide. Meanwhile, last year's much-hyped reunion with Owen Wilson, The Internship, made less than half of their Wedding Crashers haul ($93.5m worldwide). These films were also unpopular with critics: in a one-star review of The Internship, Peter Bradshaw found the comedy "creepy and undead … a dreary experience".
Vaughn's latest film, Delivery Man (out in the UK on 10 January), seems to be following the trend. It opened at No 4 in the Us,...

Rock of Ages has critics singing his praises, but given that Cruise is one of the hardest-working actors in the business, what are his charges in the court of public opinion?
Tom Cruise has all the qualities of a great movie star, except relaxation. Most of the greats – Bogart, Mitchum, Hanks, Willis – seem so at ease on screen you could balance a golf ball on the end of their nose. Cruise has never once lived up to his name: he guns it, every time. He approaches each role like a Chinese gymnast approaching the bars.
Critics may have pummelled his new eighties-retro musical, Rock of Ages, but they have all been holding up a "10" for Cruise's performance as Stacee Jaxx, a dissipated rock legend attempting a comeback after rumors of Satanic religious activity have driven him from favor.
"People say your fame has turned you into nonsensical recluse," he is...

There are certain actors whose voices you can recognize almost instantly. Danny DeVito is certainly high up there on that list. And with the release of "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" this weekend, it's safe to say that we'll be hearing a lot more of that unmistakable voice over the next couple of weeks.
"The Lorax," based on the children's book of the same name, is an environtment-friendly romp through the woods through the eyes of a 12 year old boy, named Ted. In order to win the affection of the girl of his dreams, Ted must first discover the story of the Lorax, a grumpy woodland creature with a huge mustache.
Over the past four decades, Mr. DeVito has lent his vocal talents to a wide array of feature films and television shows. Some of these roles have been more memorable than others; Whiskers from "Last Action Hero,...

Monkeys are awesome. This is one of those theories of life that are never debated, up there with the Theory of Evolution and the Origin of George Lucas’ Beard and Flannel Shirt Combo (if anything, the man has style). So by including a monkey in The Hangover: Part II, the film is already the greatest movie of all time (only equal to 12 Monkeys and Mvp: Most Valuable Primate). The Hangover II made the right decision by including one of our primate brethren in the confines of its film, but other movie sequels were less thoughtful. Thus, here are the six films that would have benefited most from including everyone’s favorite simians.
6. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace

Let's face it 2009 was not such a great year for movies – at least mainstream releases anyway. There were so many films that promised to tease, tantalize or entertain us with their fancy looking trailers and the end results where less than stellar. Genre films appear to be the biggest draws at the box office with stories that focus on battles between good and evil. Represented by one or several antagonists or villains, evil within a story can often be more fascinating than good. A good villain has the power to outshine the hero with his intelligence, quick wit or twisted philosophy. Unfortunately there also seems to be an equal number of terrible villains in films. They say a film is only as good as its villain and a poorly developed villain can also ruin a picture. Sometimes it's due to bad writing, other times it is the fault of the actor.

Once the 88 minute feature concluded, one may feel like they just watched a combo of Look Who's Talking Now and Mrs. Doubtfire.
Our story begins with meeting Dan (Robin Williams) and his best friend/business partner Charlie (John Travolta). Charlie is your bachelor for life type of guy and refuses to accept his age. Dan is in the same boat but isn't opposed to marriage. Both live for their successful sports marketing firm and they're on the verge of making their biggest deal ever.
