With the Summer of Superheroes drawing to a close, one last major Marvel Studios release remains: , the last of Marvel’s superhero team to get a formal introduction before Joss Whedon’s The Avengers takes over our collective wallet in 2012. The film’s director, Joe Johnston, has done a WWII-period comic-book adaptation before: 1991′s The Rocketeer. It seemed sensible to discuss both movies and find out if anything seperates Johnston’s movie from the recent glut of superhero pics.

Linda Hamilton has turned the tables on Sgt. Ray Lewis. Shortly after Betty White turned down the Marine's invitation to the Marine Corps Ball, the actress playing Sarah Connor in the first two "Terminator" movies posted a YouTube video of her own in which she begged him to make her his date.
"Rumor has it that you like your actresses vintage," says the 54-year-old in the beginning. After explaining that she's wearing shades because her eyes are "puffy from crying all night long," she adds, "It was just a terrible night thinking about you, and the situation, and then Betty called and I talked to her for hours and I know she feels terrible."
The "Chuck" actress goes on to make her plea. "I know that I am no Betty White, but I would be really, really thrilled if you can't find anyone else to go to the ball with you,...

Betty White, unfortunately, won't be bringing her bright star to the men protecting the stars and stripes.
America's favorite octogenarian funny lady, the 89-year old White was invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Ray Lewis in a charming YouTube video that came after his fellow Marines, Sgt. Scott Moore and Corporal Kelsey De Santis asked Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake to the November gala. Unfortunately for Lewis, he may have to go stag -- or at least not with the 89-year old Emmy nominee.
White released a statement through her publicist, saying (via the La Times):
"I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation. As everyone knows, I love a man in uniform ... but unfortunately I cannot accept, as I will be taping an episode of 'Hot in Cleveland.' Love, Betty White."
It's a tough blow, but at least Justin and Mila have accepted. After all,...

Add one more item to the list of ways in which Betty White and Mila Kunis are very, very different women. While Kunis has emphatically stated that she will attend the Marine Corps Ball in November with Sgt. Scott Moore, who invited Kunis via a YouTube video, "Hot in Cleveland" actress White has declined a similar request from Marine Sgt. Ray Lewis, who also pitched White over the Internet.Lewis, a veteran of Afghanistan and Iraq, made his play for the 89-year-old "Golden Globes" alum, noting that he'd show White "a good time" were she to attend the soiree with him."I think I can make her laugh," Lewis continued. "I think she can make me laugh. I think we can laugh together ... So, call me!"Sadly for Lewis, White has been forced to decline due to professional obligations."I am deeply flattered and truly appreciate the invitation. As everyone knows,...

Forget the Oscars: the Marine Corps Ball has quickly turned into this year’s A-list event. Now that Friends With Benefits co-stars Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake have both said yes to the Marines who invited them to the dance, word has clearly gotten around: If you ask a celebrity out on YouTube, they will go with you. Which is exactly what Sgt. Ray Lewis (like the football player!) did by asking Betty White to attend the Ball with him. His reasons for asking the lovable Hot in Cleveland star were certainly justified (“She’s funny, she’s sweet, she’s mature.
