It’s kind of hard for me to undersell the impact Batman and Adam West had on me as a boy. I was six years old when the show premiered, and it was the first program I can remember seeing previews for and *begging* my mom to commit to letting me watch it when it finally came on. Like most every boy my age in the mid ’60s, I had a makeshift costume, a lunchbox, a plastic Batmobile, the Batman TV soundtrack (I still own the original LP), and of course the comic books, which never seemed quite as captivating to me compared to the vivid pop-art energy of the series. And hardly least of all, Batman introduced Julie Newmar’s Catwoman to me, who in turn introduced a whole other set of feelings to this six-year-old– fear and sex all rolled up into one inexplicable but ooh-la-la! package. (I’ll spare you,...

We've lost the great Bill Paxton, at the age of just 61...
Don't even know where to start. Perhaps with the basics: the brilliant Bill Paxton has died, his family has confirmed. He was just 61 years old.

Paxton passed away following complications from surgery. He leaves behind a body of work that’s as broad as it is brilliant. Inevitably, we gravitate towards his roles in Aliens and The Terminator (he was one of the few who could time after time stand the rigours of a James Cameron production, and come out eager for the next), but Paxton’s resume is full of favourites. Twister, Trespass and Big Love, for instance. Plus his character work in the likes of Apollo 13, Tombstone, Predator 2, Near Dark and Edge Of Tomorrow is memorable too.

Songs On Screen: All week HitFix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. When we talk about underrated directors, it's hard not to mention Walter Hill. Hill is an underrated director, the way Michael Ritchie and Peter Yates were underrated directors, the way Roger Donaldson, Joe Dante, and Fred Schepisi are underrated directors. They’re all underrated because it’s only when you look at their filmographies that the numbers start to total up and you realize, boy, he directed a lot of really good movies. In Hill’s case, that list includes "The Warriors," "48 Hours," "The Long Riders," "Southern Comfort,: "Hard Times," "Trespass," and "Wild Bill." Some great. Some solid. (My personal favorite of those is Hard Times, a pulpy film about bare-knuckle boxers in the Great Depression.) There were clunkers...

On May 26th, 1995, music video director and artist Robert Longo made his directorial debut with Johnny Mnemonic, an adaptation of William Gibson’s futuristic short story of the same name (Gibson also penned the screenplay) that starred Keanu Reeves in the titular role as a “mnemonic courier” who finds himself in the middle of a corporate conspiracy with implications for all of mankind.
Johnny Mnemonic celebrates its 20th anniversary this month, and while it may not necessarily be a film many sci-fi fans celebrate, it’s always held a special place in my heart, undoubtedly being one of the coolest films I saw that year and one that also revitalized the cyberpunk film movement (yes, even before The Matrix came along and did it a bit more effectively).

Michael Fassbender is in talks to star in upcoming gangster film Trespass Against Us.
The Irish-German actor is in negotiations to play Chad Cutler, a man who wants to get away from his family's criminal lifestyle, reports Variety.
The gangster film is said to be "infused with action, crime and a strong sense of humour".
Trespass Against Us will be the debut film for British director Adam Scott, who will be shooting the movie in the UK next year.
The Chemical Brothers, who have worked with Scott on their music videos, will provide the soundtrack. The band will write and perform the original score for the film.
Fassbender can be seen in two films this year - 12 Years a Slave and The Counsellor.
Earlier this week, Fassbender confessed that he didn't think of himself as good-looking.

Bullet To The Head, is the new action film, from director Walter Hill. Hill has had an outstanding career in the world of action cinema, and beyond. Walter Hill is responsible for such classic films as The Warriors, 48 Hrs, Brewster’s Millions, Crossroads, Trespass and Last Man Standing. I would say that it would be safe for me to assume, that most of you have seen, and loved, at least one of those films. Bullet To The Head pairs Hill, with iconic action superstar, Sly Stallone. Say what you want about Stallone, but that man is built like a filthy Greek God, and is still one of the best physical actors in the business, at 65 years old. Teaming up with Stallone in this gritty, old school bullet fest, is Sung Kang, known for his role as Han in the last four Fast and Furious sequels. Stallone plays Jimmy Bobo, a weathered hitman,...

Last week we asked Film Junk readers to pick Walter Hill's best movie of all time, and as you might expect, the voting was somewhat sparse. I figured there were at least a handful of his movies that most people had seen, but it appears that may not be the case. Coming out on top after laying a serious beatdown on the competition was his seminal '70s gang flick The Warriors with 42% of the votes. His buddy cop entry 48 Hrs. placed second with 24% of the votes followed by The Driver. Streets of Fire, Brewster's Millions and Southern Comfort all essentially tied for the next three spots. After that, there were just a few votes spread around the remaining options, including the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie Red Heat which was all the way down at #10. Trespass did not receive a single vote. Do you agree with these results? 1. The Warriors -- 42% 2. 48 Hrs.

Walter Hill needs no introduction. He’s written and directed some of the iconic and legendary films of the ‘80s and ‘90s — The Warriors, The Driver, 48 Hrs, Hard Times., Brewster’s Millions, The Drowning Pool. His fingerprints are on Alien and Aliens. He injected some fresh blood into the Western genre. You name it, he’s done it, and he’s inspired dozens of filmmakers and screenwriters, all of whom aim to use his hardboiled, gritty, and lean style.
Despite his successes – and films that are so beloved and recognized that they’re always on the verge of being remade – Hill’s output has slowed down. It’s a shame, as his films are exactly the kind of character driven, mature, and efficient action that moviegoers are craving. “A Bullet to the Head” is Hill’s first big screen production since 2002, and hopefully is a sign of a career resurgence...

Bullet to the Head, based on the French graphic novel Du Plomb Dans La Tete written by by Matz (aka Alexis Nolent) and drawn by Colin Wilson, is the latest film from the still-prolific-at-66-years-old Sylvester Stallone who teams with director Walter Hill (The Warriors, Trespass), for a film that sees Stallone play Jimmy Bobo, a hitman who teams with a young NYPD detective (Sung Kang) in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of New Orleans. Despite a riveting opening sequence, Tom Cruise fails to measure up as Lee Child's action hero
There have been a number of cases over the years when consideration for public opinion has led distributors to postpone the release of movies. In the last weeks of the second world war the morale-boosting Hollywood picture Objective Burma! was withdrawn from British cinemas shortly after it opened (and shelved for seven years) because of protests against the slighting of our "Forgotten Army" in Burma. In 1963 Dr Strangelove was postponed due to the Kennedy assassination, and a jokey reference to Dallas was changed to Vegas, thus puzzling lip-readers. The 1992 Los Angeles riots following the acquittal of Rodney King's assailants led to Walter Hill's Looters being cancelled; it appeared later, renamed Trespass. Many movies were anxiously re-edited after 9/11, and more recently the British release of Ben Affleck's kidnapping thriller Gone Baby Gone...

It looks like the 1962 Bette Davis and Joan Crawford psychological thriller, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, is getting remade. If you haven't seen that movie yet you've got to watch it because it's pretty terrifying!
The remake is being written and directed by Walter Hill and produced and financed by Lakeshore Entertainment. I just don't see how they are going to be able to catch that same level of insane creepy charm that the original had. They can't, so I don't see the point of the remake.
Hill has worked on a ton of films over the years that include Last Man Standing, Trespass, Red Heat, 48 Hours, Another 48 Hours, Brewster's Millions, The Warriors and more.
The story is set in an old decaying Hollywood mansion where Jane Hudson, a former child star, and her sister Blanche, a movie queen from the ’30s, are forced into retirement after a crippling accident.

Whatever happened to Walter Hill? He’s never really stopped working, but it’s fair to say Hill’s heyday was the 1980s and that it’s been a low profile ride downhill ever since. The man behind The Warriors, Southern Comfort, 48 Hrs, Streets of Fire, Brewster’s Millions and Red Heat began to slow down into the 90s as his particular brand of straight-forward, hype-free films lost cachet with audiences. Most folks probably can’t name many of his movies after 1990 aside from Trespass and Last Man Standing (granted, he only made four others), but it looks like he may be headed towards a resurgence of sorts. Next year will see the release of Bullet to the Head starring Sylvester Stallone, Thomas “Not Ethnic Enough” Jane and Sung Kang as a cop and a hitman who join forces against a common enemy, and the director is already lining up his next project. It...

Man, it’s hot outside. I mean seriously freaking hot. I don’t know about you, my friend, but I’m staying indoors today and tomorrow. Shut-in mode has been officially engaged. After riding inside the toaster oven that is my 2000 Daewoo Lanos this week, I’ve decided that I’m spending the weekend within the air conditioned coziness of my quirky suburban pad. However, even with the AC cranked and the cold drinks flowing, the 100+ degree heat has a way of getting into everything and staying there. It’s pretty brutal, especially for a lightweight like me. If you’re attempting to stay cool, as well, why not stick your sweaty face right into the cool waters of Ice Cube and Ice-t’s 1992 action/thriller “Trespass”. Not only do you get these two guys kicking ass and chewing scenery like seasoned professionals, potential viewers are also treated to the...

Production just wrapped on Steven Soderbergh‘s male stripper movie Magic Mike and, as expected, the film has been picked up by Warner Bros. for a June 29th, 2012 release. Starring Channing Tatum, and inspired by his real-life experience, the coming-of-age drama also features a cast including Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Gabriel Iglesias, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Cody Horn, Adam Rodriguez, Kevin Nash, and Betsy Brandt. It will open next to his big action blockbuster G.I. Joe: Retaliation, so it makes for quite a double feature.

Ice-t; most people know him best now as Detective Fin Tutuola on Law & Order: Svu or if you're a hip-hop fan, like myself, you'll always remember him as one of the pioneers of "gangsta" rap before there was even a term for it. A lot of us even dig his surprisingly eclectic film career. He's been in movies as diverse as New Jack City, Surviving the Game, Tank Girl, Johnny Mnemonic and Leprechaun in the Hood.
However, it's his very early foray into the world of films that I want to focus on in this installment of Trailer Trash.
Before Ice-t had even released a record, he began to gain notoriety as a rapper and songwriter, in large part due to his work in motion pictures. While a lot of his early 80's film work can be considered corny and laughable by today's standards and a far cry from the...

Mention the name Walter Hill to a film freak of a certain age and you'll almost certainly be regaled with wild-eyed tales of manly, sweaty, frequently insane action flicks. The man hasn't done a feature since 2002's Undisputed, but he did direct some sections of great TV westerns like Broken Trail and Deadwood. So anyway, here's a very brief history lesson on Walter Hill: he wrote, directed, and/or produced films like The Getaway, Hard Times, The Driver, Alien, The Warriors, Southern Comfort, 48 Hours, Brewster's Millions, Streets of Fire, Extreme Prejudice, Red Heat, Aliens, Johnny Handsome, Trespass, Geronimo, Wild Bill, and Last Man Standing. That's a lot of testosterone. So here's the good news: Variety reports that Mr. Hill's Bullet to...

The trailer for upcoming Joel Schumacher movie, Trespass, has arrived online. Trespass (not to be confused with the 1992 Bill Paxton film) stars Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman as a husband and wife who have their home invaded by masked thugs. Cage has cash hidden somewhere in the house and they know about it, but he doesn’t give up so easily. Things begin to unravel and it turns out Kidman may not be the Stepford Wife she'd have us believe her to be. The film looks like what might happen if Panic Room, Hostage and Funny Games managed...

There was a point there when it looked as if Nicolas Cage had gone Awol and would not be turning out for Joel Schumacher's home invasion thriller. Happily though, at least for Schumacher, it all got worked out, and the evidence is before our very eyes this morning, with the trailer for Trespass, in which Cage co-stars with Nicole Kidman.Schumacher's film has nothing to do with Walter Hill's 1990s action classic, but like Ice T and Ice Cube, Cage still has to deal with a greedy ass cracker comin' in his hood with his hand out. Cage has a very large safe in his house, and shots of piles of money and mention of diamonds lead us and the balaclava'd villains ("troopin' with the ski mask, gotta get the cash") that break in to believe that there's much of value inside. It needs Cage's thumb-print to open it,...

I had hoped that Joel Schumacher's new film, Trespass, would be an example of the rare form he displays every few years. The cast seemed promising: Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman play a couple taken hostage in their own home by Ben Mendelsohn, Cam Gigandet and Liana Liberato. My hopes may have been in vain. Millennium Entertainment picked up the film for release not long ago, but we hadn't heard any plans to actually release it, much less glimpsed any footage. Now there is a poster, and some fine print that indicates the movie will get a very narrow theatrical run before landing on DVD. Movieline [1] caught a tweet (since deleted) from the official Trespass Twitter account [2] that pointed to this poster. There is an October 14 release date on that -- so far, so good -- but VideoETA [3]reports that the DVD and blu-ray version of the film is...

A poster for Trespass hit the web, and no, it's not related to the awesome actioner starring Bill Paxton and William Sadler. This one is directed by Joel Schumacher and falls into the "home invasion" sub-genre. The thriller finds Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman playing a husband and wife who taken hostage by four brutal perpetrators seeking a big score. Complications ensue amid the unexpected discovery of betrayal and deception. According to the poster, it looks like this is getting a run in theaters and on VOD October 14.

Troika Pictures produces and finances genre films mostly for a young audience, focusing on thrillers, comedies and action films – Joel Schumacher’s suspense thriller The Hive is certainly one of them.
Penned by Rich D’Ovidio (Exit Wounds), the story follows an emergency operator who must confront a killer from her past to save a young girl’s life.
Joel Schumacher jumps around in genres whether or not he succeeds, but among his best-known works are thrillers. He has struggled with no wins in the past few years to find the script – I am primarily referring to Twelve and Blood Creek – but his upcoming Trespass may not be the case; troubled Nicolas Cage is starring and it is set for release this September.
Other projects include contemporary love story Paradise Cove, with probably Kenny Ortega to direct; Ice Cube‘s Ten (Peter Cornwell is attached to direct), and rom-com One...

It's been a rough few years for Joel Schumacher -- rougher than most for the director who is often lambasted for his Batman films, regardless of the fact that he's made a couple of solid pictures since then. He bombed with the Jim Carrey film The Number 23 in 2007, then saw Blood Creek dumped in dollar theaters, and Twelve was critically savaged as one of the worst films of 2010. Now he's in post-production on the potentially more satisfying Trespass, which stars Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, Cam Gigandet and Ben Mendelsohn. And he's now set to direct a new thriller called The Hive. Variety [1] says the film is about "an emergency operator who must confront a killer from her past to save a young girl's life." The screenwriter is Rich D'Ovidio, who wrote Exit Wounds and did some rewrite work on Thirteen Ghosts. We don't have any casting for The Hive at this point,...

A new image from director Joel Schumacher’s thriller “Trespass” has dropped online. The film, starring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman, recently begin production in Shreveport, Louisiana. Kidman and Cage play a wealthy couple whose lakefront dream house is the target of a break-in. ”There are cross-connections between the family and the [criminals], and many secrets come out,” says director Joel Schumacher (Phone Booth), who had to dissuade Cage from playing the villain. ”I know Nic would have been brilliant as the bad guy, but I wanted him to play the hero. It went back and forth and finally ended up where it should be.” As recently as two months ago it was rumored that Cage’s participation in “Trespass” was questionable, though that issue seems to have worked itself out. Eli Richbourg and Gajdusek wrote the script. Cam Gigandet also stars, and this “Trespass” should not be confused with the 1992 “Trespass” with Ice-t,...

Is Ice Cube's film career brave or just bizarre? In the 80s, you'd never have predicted that the crazy muthafukka from straight outta Compton would twenty years later be successful as the grumpy, cuddly teddy bear of the Friday and Barbershop films. You can't quite imagine his immediate contemporary (and Trespass co-star) Ice-t in a family road-trip comedy. But then, Cube is still regularly knocking out films, while Ice-t is chugging away on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. Maybe "canny" is the word.Anyway, the point is, it's a long time since Cube went to the shelf and dusted off the Ak: not since xXx2 has he busted any serious caps, and only about four people saw that. So the words "rogue cop" made us prick up our ears, in a kind of half-assed way. Ride Along, from New Line and Cube's own Cube Vision production company,...

Motion pictures are years or even decades in the making. As much as we like to ascribe credit to directors who manage to capture the zeitgeist -- like when Sam Raimi uses a put-upon mortgage broker as the heroine of his new movie right in the middle of an economic crisis fueled by the collapse of the housing market -- the truth is, more often than not, a movie's cultural relevancy is a matter of luck and timing. In the case of "Drag Me To Hell," Raimi's film was eerily prescient, but just as often the opposite turns out to be the case.
No one could have predicted, for example, the tragic accidental death of Exodus Tyson, Mike Tyson's four-year-old daughter, or that it would come just weeks after the release of one film starring Tyson (James Toback's documentary "Tyson") and days before another, Todd Phillips' new comedy "The Hangover,...

Ice Cube Regrets Turning Down Menace + Taking Ghosts Of Mars
Rapper/actor Ice Cube has two major career regrets - turning down a part in the film Menace II Society and agreeing to Ghosts Of Mars.
The star would rather scrub the latter movie off his resume - because he thinks it's the worst film he has made.
He says, "I don't like that movie. I'm a big fan of (director) John Carpenter (and) the only reason I did it was because John Carpenter directed it.
"But they really didn't have the money to pull the special effects off."
And he also wishes he could swap that film for Menace II Society - a movie he turned down.
The rapper tells Hustler magazine, "I had just done Boyz N The Hood and Trespass (and) I didn't want to get stuck playing just characters from the 'hood.
"That's the only one (movie) I said, 'Damn, that's a good movie I wish I had been in.'"
The 1993 film, starring Samuel L. Jackson and Larenz Tate, has become a cult classic.
