In just about every single fashion week, ad roundup or magazine editorial, you’ll find a model that has a set of very famous parents. There are parent/sibling modeling empires including the Hadids and Gerbers (Cindy Crawford’s kids), and up-and-coming dynasties from the Hollywood acting scene (names like the Stallone and Hamlin sisters come to mind). But stars’ gorgeous offspring stepping in front of the camera isn’t anything new. What is surprising? The number of political families infiltrating the modeling world. Most recently, Tyler Clinton (yes, he’s related to those Clintons) signed a major modeling contract,...

Hillary Clinton’s Twitter persona got a much needed update when she tweeted “Delete your account” to Donald Trump. A far cry from the canned missives that only add to the perception that she is stiff and unlikable, the tweet heard ’round the world showed not only that she knew how to deal a zinger, but that her team understood the nuances of a tool that has become increasingly influential since the 2012 election.
According to a Pew Research study published in July, 54% of younger adults prefer to get news online. While TV is still the leading source of news for most people, about half of all 18-49 year olds reported they often turn to online platforms for news. According to a Gallup Poll also published in July: “15% of Americans aged 18 to 34 list a social media site as their main news source — up from 3% in 2013.” The poll also found that “specific...

Elevator Pitch:
An acclaimed filmmaker turns his lens to the frontlines of the Bp Horizon disaster and the large scale cover-up of the tragic health effects following the infamous spill in 2010, in an upcoming documentary called “The Rising.” The film exposes the true health effects for tens of thousands of people and the ramifications of unregulated corporate power and government collusion to our nation.

Dunham first announced her plans to stump for Clinton last month after interviewing the Democratic candidate for her newsletter, Lenny Letter. The Girls creator traveled to Boston; Manchester and Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Chicago; and Iowa City and Des Moines, Iowa, with her best friend Audrey Gelman as part of the campaign. Well, it looks like the strenuous schedule of hosting a weekly podcast got to both Justine and I, because we’ve made the executive decision to turn I’d Rather Be At The Movies into a bi-monthly show – yes, you can expect fortnightly episodes from here on out. Until we’re funded by some multi-billionaire who can pay us to only talk about movies, life’s chaotic clutches will always have a grasp on the two of us, and adhering to a twice a month schedule makes much more sense. You wouldn’t want us to burn out and vanish off the face of podcasting, now would you?
With that said, we’re back once again to talk cinema, and what a week to return. With Captain America: The Winter Soldier opening this weekend, we’ve already got a nice box office behemoth to dissect – something I’ve already done in my review.

South Korea’s Kim Jee-Woon has been a Sound on Sight favorite for some time, having created diverse, sprawling, and beautifully realized genre pieces like I Saw the Devil and A Tale of Two Sisters. He now makes his American debut with, of all things, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comeback vehicle The Last Stand. Ricky, Edgar and Simon see if Jee-Woon’s style translates, while also taking a look back at the director’s epic western/martial-arts/comedy hybrid The Good, The Bad, The Weird.

If you follow the RopeofSilicon Twitter account, Facebook page or subscribe to the RSS feed, you've likely seen a few headlines over the past month that haven't been showing up on the main list of articles here on the site. And if you'd taken notice of the category listing you would have seen them categorized under something called "Sidebar," a new blog section of the site I officially launched yesterday.
Just what is "Sidebar"? Well, if you frequent any of the number of movie blogs on the Internet you probably recognize several of them report on just about every tiny bit of news that surfaces online. This essentially results in a slog of content that pushes potentially more engaging stories out of the way for the latest scanned image out of the pages of "Entertainment Weekly." While there's nothing wrong with this, I don't tend to post a lot of...

There’s been some Predators 2 talk recently, so what has been said and how likely is a sequel?
Director Nimród Antal revealed a couple of weeks ago that a Predators sequel had already been discussed with Robert Rodriguez, noting that it would depend primarily on the box office. Predators has since grossed $52m worldwide, with some time still to run. As its production budget was a sensible $40m, this means it’s a decent financial success.
Star Adrien Brody has indicated he would like to return. “The idea of reprising the role and going farther into that character is interesting to me,” he said. “It would be exciting to watch a character progress or deteriorate. That’s exciting for an actor. I thoroughly enjoyed playing Royce.”
But would it be Adrien vs Predators 2? Not necessarily. Writer-producer Robert Rodriguez has enthused, “There are so many great ideas… Just following Laurence Fishburne...

VH1 fans are in for another dose of reality.
Today, the network officially ordered second seasons of reality series 'Brandy & Ray J: A Family Business,' 'Basketball Wives' and 'What Chilli Wants,' according to the Live Feed.
"VH1 viewers connected strongly with these three new series this year, and we're so happy that we can continue to share these real-life stories from the worlds of music and celebrity," said VH1 Executive Vice President, Original Programming & Production, Jeff Olde.
'Basketball Wives' is not unlike the 'Real Housewives' on Bravo, but these ladies are connected to some of the biggest stars in the world: players from the NBA, including queen bee Shaunie, Shaquille O'Neal's lady.

Not your normal post-show discussion. This event is just one aspect of Feed, Soho Rep's initiative to expand the nature of theater. Linked to their production of "Truth: A Tragedy," a new play by Cynthia Hopkins, the goal is to provide theatergoers with a new kind of experience: "Our aim is to Feed you before our plays," reads the program's mission statement, "during the production, and long after you've gone home.""Truth" incorporates song, dance, and language to explore the life and cognitive struggle of the playwright's father during a long battle with Alzheimer's. Chuck
In an interview with The Live Feed, NBC President Angela Bromstad said "Chuck" is their highest-performing Monday night show and "a very strong player…it's a show that matches up with our new shows".
This would indicate its chances of returning are quite strong - we'll know for certain at the network's upfronts on Monday. Bromstad also hinted that "Heroes" might return to "split a time slot with another show".
Skins
MTV has ordered 10 episodes of its U.S. remake of British series "Skins" which it picked up last August reports Variety.
The series, which recently wrapped its fourth and final season in the UK, followed two groups of teenagers (the cast was almost completely changed for the third season) and pushed boundaries in terms of onscreen teen sex and drug use.
The U.S. "Skins" will feature a mostly unknown cast and be set around Baltimore.

NBC President Angela Bromstad hints that not only might 'Chuck' be back for another season in the fall but another show with a big fan base might too: 'Heroes.' That's just two of the items revealed in this interview with Bromstad over at The Live Feed.
To be clear, Bromstad doesn't say that 'Chuck' and 'Heroes' will definitely be back. But when a high-level network exec says in an interview just a couple of weeks before their upfront presentation that 'Chuck' is their highest-performing Monday night show," a "very strong player," and that "it's a show that matches up with our new shows," that usually means there's a lot more chance it will be back than a chance it will be canceled. Still, it wouldn't hurt to go to Subway every day for the next two weeks.

The repeat bit-part offenders who command huge fees for tiny roles
So Julia Roberts was paid $500,000 a minute for her six-minute turn in Valentine's Day. Surprised? You shouldn't be. Roberts has form when it comes to the cameo: she cut her teeth in Robert Altman's The Player, then turned in cameos as a bed-hopping reporter in Prêt-à-Porter and an especially larky (read: grating) one as herself in Ocean's 12. The cameo is the ideal way to make some serious cash on the sly. After all, there's no appearance more special than one that is actually labelled a special appearance. Or, better still, not labelled at all. Here are five other repeat bit-part offenders.
Marlon Brando
The big daddy of the cameo demanded top billing, $3.7m (£2.4m) upfront and a hefty profit share (current total: $14m) for his 10-minute role as the Man of Steel Snr in Superman. He also...

This isn't going to be an overly long update since I already discussed some of the questions swimming around in my mind on Monday. Speaking of Monday, how about all of the passion surrounding my "Is 27 Years Without An Oscar too Many to Deny Meryl Streep in 2010?" article. I expected a little bit of chatter, but over 100 comments wasn't on my radar, and for the most part these aren't comments screaming, "Go Meryl!" there are actually quite a few well thought out comments (even if some of the arguments do get a bit loony). That said, why don't we start with the Best Actress category? Actress and Best Picture are really the only categories worth talking at any length on any way.
Last week Meryl Streep stood atop my prediction chart and this week Sandra Bullock moves ahead of her. I know this will bring out the Meryl Streep boo...

We shall begin with Amelia, a film I wrote about on Monday as it became the talk of the town with hardly a review in sight and a mere five days until its release. Well, that's all changed as I saw the film early Tuesday morning and it seems most everyone in Los Angeles and New York saw it for the first time as well. While I won't be joining David Poland on the train to completely disembowel Mira Nair's film of the famed aviatrix (and it seems Kris Tapley will also be doing the same), I will admit it's not a very good movie and would agree with Justin Chang's take at Variety when he says the film "offers snazzy aerial photography and inspirational platitudes in lieu of insight into Amelia Earhart's storied life and high-flying career."

First we'll get the house-cleaning out of the way as everyone seems to be getting all excited over the minor change in the voting rules for Oscar's Best Picture as a result of the shift from five nominees to ten. The Academy sent out a press release noting the fact the preferential voting process used to determine the nominees will now be used to decide the winners as well. I discussed the preferential voting system last year in a rather extensive article as everyone got upset over the assumed snubbing of The Dark Knight with "preference" shown to The Reader. You can read that article right here, but essentially this involves voters ranking their picks on a scale of 1-10 instead of simply marking an "X" next to the one film they decide to be the Best Picture. As a result you begin rounding up the first place votes by...

First off, Universal is selling quite a few of its DVD catalog titles for cheap as part of a promotion and including Movie Cash for one ticket to see Land of the Lost. One title I noticed on sale for only $9.99 was the 30th Anniversary Edition of Jaws, which you can buy directly right here, or you can search all of the titles by clicking here. Harry Potter Gift Set, The Fountain, Unforgiven, The Wild Bunch, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, Purple Rain, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, GoodFellas, The Fugitive, Enter the Dragon, Dog Day Afternoon, The Dirty Dozen, The Cowboys, Constantine, Bullitt, Blood Diamond, Blazing Saddles, Battle for the Bulge, The Last Samurai, Syriana, The Aviator, Million Dollar Baby and Lethal Weapon

DVD Links: Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed First things first. For those of you interested and excited that Criterion is going to start releasing Blu-ray titles but worried about the cost, considering Criterion DVDs aren't exactly cheap and to spend the same kind of money on essentially the same film in high-definition need not worry so much, there is a small bit of fresh air. Of course, this isn't a solution that makes it a free upgrade, but the die-hards out there at least have an option. Criterion is offering the option that you send in your current DVD (just the disc) and $25 ($20 for the new disc and $5 for shipping) and they will send you back the corresponding Blu-ray disc. The only difference is going to be the high-definition transfer between back titles and the fact that Blu-ray editions will come in the blue case packaging. This seems...
