"Batman: The Animated Series" is beloved for how accurately it adapted the "Batman" comics. Many consider the series to be the definitive depiction of Gotham City. Yet "Batman" also colored in the margins, where the creators left their own thumbprints.
The series didn't only adapt existing Batman comics and characters. The "Batman" team also introduced a handful of original characters, spicing up the stories they could tell. Some of these original characters were such successes that the comics started adapting them from the show.
Take Gotham police officer Renee Montoya, one of Commissioner Gordon's (Bob Hastings) inner circle. Or Nora Fries, terminally ill wife of the villainous Mr. Freeze. Nora's admittedly more of a plot device, but her presence casts a cloud over Freeze and is the foundation of his brilliant recharacterization.
Some of the other original characters were more sinister. The many illustrious villains of "Batman: The Animated Series...

"Batman: The Animated Series" was produced to capitalize on the success of the Tim Burton "Batman" films. Both the films and cartoon played big roles in bringing a darker Batman to the wider public, the kind that may not have bothered picking up a copy of Frank Miller's comic masterpiece "The Dark Knight Returns."
"Batman: The Animated Series" is widely considered to be the superlative take on the Dark Knight and his rogues gallery. It helps that the series starred several villains never before adapted out of the comics. The pilot episode, "On Leather Wings," featured Batman fighting the monstrous Man-Bat. The 1960s "Batman" series tried and failed to include Harvey "Two-Face" Dent, but "The Animated Series" had him, gruesome origin and all. "The Animated Series" also brought in the most important Batman villain introduced since the '60s...

It's going to be a heck of a summer for DC fans. The new cinematic Dcu begins on the big screen with James Gunn's Superman. The marketing and merchandise blitz has already begun with companies debuting their version of the latest Man of Steel. This includes McFarlane Toys with their coveted DC Multiverse collection. However, McFarlane hasn't forgotten about these characters' comic book roots as the popular toy company has just unveiled their latest DC Multiverse wave.
Their new comic DC Multiverse seven-inch-scale Gold Label figure set is headlined by Batman. However, this isn't any old Dark Knight as this edition of the hero is based on his Justice Lords design. The alternate-reality villainous Caped Crusader is seen in an all-black costume, different than his '80s and '90s film appearances, with a silver utility belt and Bat-symbol making the figure pop. If you're a Batman fan (or even if you aren't), you must've heard of Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" Trilogy. Led by Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne, these three movies — "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight," and "The Dark Knight Rises" — have raised the bar for every Batman movie made since. But are there truly only three Dark Knight movies?
The 2008 animated feature "Batman: Gotham Knight" was released as a tie-in to "The Dark Knight." Warner Bros. sold the film as a prequel to their new blockbuster, set between "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight."
"Gotham Knight" is not a single-feature, but an anthology of six shorts, each one with a different director and writer. The six shorts lead into each other, forming a narrative thread but still an episodic one. The shorts, which offer treats for both Batman and anime fans,...

If you look at a lot of the best films in the superhero genre, a common denominator is Batman. The Caped Crusader's 80+ year legacy makes him one of the comic book heroes most open for interpretation. Different filmmakers have produced widely different, yet equally excellent, Batman movies. 1966's "Batman: The Movie" is a camp classic. "Batman Returns" is a gothic German Expressionist melodrama only Tim Burton could have made. Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight" and Matt Reeves' "The Batman" are both fantastic crime dramas with big ideas most superhero movies don't even reach for.
But it'd be a big mistake to leave animation out of this conversation. "Batman: The Animated Series" is generally considered the finest Batman adaptation ever, proof positive the Dark Knight can excel on film no matter the medium. There are also many more animated Batman movies than live-action ones at this point. Many of them...

Prior to the 2000s’ live-action superhero boom, the ’90s marked a significant shift for this genre, as both DC and Marvel were on a roll with gems like Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men: The Animated Series. But amidst the plethora of action cartoons that revolved around pre-established IPs, the ’90s were also no stranger to original superhero shows, which involved Swat Kats: The Radical Squadron.
Created by Christian and Yvon Tremblay, the show was notable for gearing toward a more mature tone with its action and themes, and even though its tenure was short-lived, its impact still lives on through its cult following. With the two on board to embark on a new chapter of the classic show, the Tremblay brothers reflected on their inspirations for the show’s rogues’ gallery during an exclusive interview with Fandomwire at Mumbai Comic Con.

Avengers: Doomsday will be the first time the Thunderbolts, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and the original X-Men are brought onscreen together. However, over at Apple TV+, a different comic book crossover cast is being put together for the new psychological thriller series, Imperfect Women.

The Batman: Arkham games are one of the best video game franchises in all of history. The series literally pulls you into Gotham, turns you into the Dark Knight himself, and gives you everything you need to become the best superhero in the entire DC universe.

With those eye-catching action scenes and stellar animation, Devil May Cry has certainly created a lot of buzz in the anime community. But it isn’t just the art and animation that are largely great that have the fans talking about the show lately. We also got to see one last performance by the late Kevin Conroy in Netflix’s brand new anime.
The guy who was the iconic voice of Bruce Wayne/Batman for all of us in Batman: The Animated Series, and who epitomized what it is to be Batman. Conroy brought his A-game as Vice President William Baines in the urban fantasy action anime based on the popular action-adventure game.
Speaking about Conroy’s role in his work, the creator, Adi Shankar, recently opened up about how he was super nervous working with him.

When "Batman: The Animated Series" debuted in 1992, Batman's last leading role in animation had been on the final "Super Friends" season: 1985's "The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians." Batman had never exactly faded away, though. There was another Batman cartoon pitch in the late 1980s (one that's totally fallen through the cracks of history since then) in the form of "Batman and the New Robin." This show would've starred Batman alongside the second (and edgiest) Robin, Jason Todd.
"Batman and the New Robin" was going to be produced by Nelvana, and the unearthed series bible was penned by J. Michael Straczynski. Jms, as he's often called, would go on to create the space opera series "Babylon 5," and he's also a prolific comic book writer. In the '80s, though, he was working in children's animation; he'd co-created "She-Ra: Princess of Power...

Over 30 years later, Batman: The Animated Series remains one of the best interpretations of the famous DC hero. Whether it was the “dark deco” world, the mature writing or the handful of tragic villains, there was something for fans to marvel at every week. That bled into Btas second iteration, The New Batman Adventures, with updated character designs and storylines that never shied away from taking risks. Now McFarlane Toys is continuing the show's legacy with their latest wave of action figures.
A part of McFarlane's six-inch scale DC Direct line, the next wave for The New Batman Adventures includes three figures. Angel Studios has set a major box office record with the release of The King of Kings. The animated film, featuring Oscar Isaac as the voice of Jesus Christ, was already heading into a strong weekend with around $14.6 million earned from presales, and now it's officially set a new high in theaters.
As announced by the studio, The King of Kings has set the record for the best opening weekend for an animated Biblical film in box office history. Its last reported numbers, per Deadline, were at around $17.6 million. This dethrones DreamWorks Animation's The Prince of Egypt, which was released 27 years ago, for the record. Star Trek fans know and appreciate the acting talents of those chosen few fortunate enough to take the role of captain across several series ever since the original television show aired in September of 1966. While each actor brought something special to the series he or she starred in, they all have other surprising talents that lie outside the acting world.

There have been endless debates about which screen adaptation of Batman stands above the rest. Usually, that discussion revolves around the cinematic interpretations, whether it's Tim Burton's two films with Michael Keaton, Joel Schumacher's films with Val Kilmer and George Clooney, Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy with Christian Bale, Zack Snyder's DC Extended Universe films with Ben Affleck, or Matt Reeves' ongoing Epic Crime Saga with Robert Pattinson. We can even throw in "The Lego Batman Movie," which features Will Arnett as the funniest Caped Crusader of them all, and whose cancelled sequel I still mourn eight years later. And of course, how can we forget the legendary Adam West? While every one of these adaptations has its share of highlights (and lowlights), it is hard to argue against "Batman: The Animated Series," featuring the late Kevin Conroy's legendary voice performance as Bruce Wayne.

Batman famously has one of the best rogues' galleries in American superhero comics. But even among that stunning ensemble, writers do play favorites. You can definitely tell, watching the superlative "Batman: The Animated Series," that plant-controlling femme fatale eco-terrorist Poison Ivy (Diane Pershing) was one of the show's preferred villains.
Poison Ivy was one of the first villains to appear in "The Animated Series," debuting in episode 5, "Pretty Poison." The show gave Ivy a partner-in-crime with Harley Quinn (Arleen Sorkin), establishing a friendship (and ultimately romance) that's lasted 30 years. Ivy also got major supporting parts in villain team-up episodes, "Almost Got 'Im" (where Gotham's worst play poker and swap stories about fighting Batman) and "Trial" (where Arkham inmates start running the asylum). In the series' final run of episodes, Ivy even got a dedicated farewell episode: "House & Garden" (written by Paul Dini). As the title suggests, Ivy seemingly reforms...

A few weeks ago, I was watching a video essay from a YouTube channel called DanBoyWonder titled “The Lost Art of Action Cartoons!,” which basically stated that we aren’t getting action-oriented shows like Batman: The Animated Series, Ben 10, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Teen Titans, Swat Kats, Gargoyles, Samurai Jack, Justice League, etc., any more. He argued that recent reboots of older animated shows or the overall landscape of animated shows made in America is really bland. He did say that stuff like Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and Invincible are decent but not as amazing as the stuff from the good old days. And you know what? I almost agreed with him. But then I realized that any discourse on the current state of American animation is incomplete without bringing up the work that Adi Shankar and his collaborators have done in this space. Castlevania’s four-season run is spectacular.

Val Kilmer has sadly passed away at the age of 65. A staple of Hollywood in the '80s and '90s, he was a leading man through and through who delivered performances full of charisma and charm, never failing to captivate whenever he was on the silver screen.
Among those many performances were Iceman in Top Gun, Madmartigan in Willow, and Jim Morrison in The Doors. He also portrayed Batman in 1995's Batman Forever, the third film in Hollywood's Caped Crusader movie series of the '80s and '90s.
The Joel Schumacher movie is a divisive one, particularly because it opened the door for the franchise to produce the infamous sequel Batman and Robin, but as the years go on, Forever is getting more appreciation. “Devil May Cry” is keeping the late ’90s/early ’00s throwback train rollin’ with the reveal of its official soundtrack.
In addition to Limp Bizkit‘s “Rollin’,” a remix of Papa Roach‘s “Last Resort,” and the new Evanescence single “Afterlife,” the show will feature “Guerrilla Radio” by Rage Against the Machine, “Butterfly” by Crazy Town, “Ghost” by Gunship, and an as-yet-unspecified Green Day song.
Synthwave duo Power Glove also puts its spin on two Devil May Cry 5 tracks composed by Casey Edwards, “Bury the Light” and “Devil Trigger.”
Based on the Capcom video game franchise, the eight-episode animated series releases tomorrow, April 3, on Netflix.
Sinister forces are at play at the portal between the human and demon realms. In the middle of it all is Dante, an orphaned demon hunter for hire, unaware that the fate of both worlds hangs around his neck.

/Film readers likely know that the aesthetic of "Batman: The Animated Series" is part of what made the show such a success. The "Dark Deco" look, as it was known, was an extension of the show's willingness to tell much more mature storylines and treat kids as if they were smart enough to understand them. The black card backgrounds and film noir-inspired designs spoke to this desire to tell more adult stories, with "Btas" crafting an immersive and oppressive Gotham City that felt truly unique amid the comparatively wacky designs of fellow Fox Kids series like "Taz-Mania" and "Eek! The Cat."
With other visual influences ranging from Alfred Hitchcock movies to Tim Burton's Batman films, you might not have expected "Btas" to go full western during its 1992-95 run. But that's exactly what it did in a season 2 episode that, while it might not be remembered as one...

The great New Zealand-born actor Clive Revill has passed away at the age of 94. He died in Sherman Oaks, California, having succumbed to dementia on March 11. The sad news was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by his daughter, Kate Selsby Revill-Oglesby. Revill's storied career encompassed performances on the stage, silver screen, and television, and spanned from Shakespeare to horror and Star Trek to Star Wars, and included many voice-acting credits.
Revill, who would have turned 95 on April 18, entered the Star Trek universe in 1991, when he guest starred as Sir Guy of Gisbourne in the fourth-season Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Qpid.” The character seeks to marry Maid Marian/Vash (Jennifer Hetrick) and ultimately clashes with Robin Hood/Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his Merry Men, a/k/a Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden), Worf (Michael Dorn), Data (Brent Spiner), Riker (Jonathan Frakes), and Troi (Marina Sirtis).

1950s and '60s "Batman" comic books produced some of the most amusingly ridiculous storylines in the Dark Knight's history. At a time when science fiction was all the rage, the comics had transformed Bob Kane and Bill Finger's "weird figure of the dark" from 1939's "Detective Comics" #27 into a campy boy scout whose adventures involved fantastical villains, aliens, and space travel.
This was the era that gave us some of the most memorably absurd "Batman" covers yet, such as 1958's "Batman" #118, which featured a version of the Caped Crusader who while trapped in a water tank exclaimed, "Yes Robin, I've become a human fish!" Then, there was 1966's "Detective Comics" #356, which came adorned with a Boy Wonder shocked by the fact he was "turning into a coffin!" 1960's "Detective Comics" #282 saw Batman battle an "interplanetary rival" in the form of a "Krajan Cave-Eel" and 1959's "Batman...

For the second month in a row, an alien parasite has merged with Spider-Man's costume and created a fierce black-suited web-slinger in Funko Pop! form. Funko and Target are introducing two new collectibles as part of their Marvel Selects line that not only homage to Spidey's iconic symbiote suit but also one of his greatest foes, the Green Goblin. Instead of more Comic Cover figures, however, both characters are rendered as they appeared in the beloved Spider-Man: The Animated Series from 1994. Ahead of their release on store shelves in April, Collider can share an exclusive look at the new items swinging into Funko's eye-watering collection of wall-crawler goodies.
Spider-Man's symbiote suit had a slightly different look in the classic animated show than the one donned by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3. The figure replicates a completely solid black appearance, only interrupted by the bright white...

Early Cartoon Network was a wild time for imagination in animation. After being created mostly to just air classic Warner Bros., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, the mid-'90s saw Cartoon Network get into original programming with the introduction of Cartoon Cartoons. These were animated shorts that later got turned into full animated series like "Dexter's Laboratory," "Johnny Bravo," "Cow and Chicken," "Courage the Cowardly Dog," and "The Powerpuff Girls" -- shows that remain some of the best of the past 30 years. It was a time of great experimentation without a house style or a formula that allows for a series of cartoons that pushed the medium forward in visual style, tone, kineticism, and characters.
Many of these shows shared a lot of the same crew, with the very first Cartoon Cartoon, "Dexter's Laboratory," staffing future legends of the medium like Rob Renzetti, Seth MacFarlane, Butch Hartman, and "The Powerpuff Girls...

Considering every single television show Taylor Sheridan has under his belt, it was only a matter of time before one of them made it into IMDb's Top 250 TV series. What's even more impressive, however, is that two have made the cut so far.
Among the extensive list of outstanding television, including everything from "Breaking Bad" to "The Office" and the best superhero TV show of all time, "Batman: The Animated Series," a pair of Sheridan's critically acclaimed and immensely popular series have, in fact, made their way into the website's top 250. It may also come as no surprise that the duo in question aren't so much cut from the same cloth as they're part of the same family quilt passed down from one generation to another per Dutton family tradition. Yep, "Yellowstone" and its gritty, unforgiving prequel series, "1883," are both highly-regarded among IMDb users, and understandably so.

Since stealing the show as the twisted Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, Giancarlo Esposito has played many a villain. Most recently, he's starred in The Electric State and Captain America: Brave New World. In the latter, he suited up as Serpent Society leader Sidewinder.
Fans were disappointed to see the actor "wasted" on such a minor character in the MCU, especially after years of fan casts suggesting he suit up as Magneto or Mister Sinister, for example.
Could Esposito get a second chance in the Dcu? It wouldn't be overly surprising, and the actor has now thrown his hat into the ring for Batman villain Mr. Freeze. The character has been rumoured to appear on screen for several years now, both in Matt Reeves' The Batman franchise and The Brave and the Bold.

’90s superhero shows didn’t mess around with their interpretation of classic Cbm villains, whether it be Mr. Freeze and Clayface from Batman: The Animated Series or the Chameleon from the Spider-Man show. Despite being aimed at kids, the show didn’t water down his creepiness, which is expected from a silent shapeshifting terrorist.

Although the character hasn’t been explored much on the silver screen since, barring Sony’s Kraven the Hunter, it appears the MCU might be putting him at the front and center of the webhead’s next solo big-screen expedition.

Matt Reeves' The Batman fought colossal headwinds to become an instant classic, which is a major feat considering how crowded the field was. From Adam West to Christian Bale, movie screens have had no shortage of memorable Caped Crusaders. Bringing a new one into the equation felt like overkill, particularly with Ben Affleck's admittedly underrated Dark Knight being part of the Dceu monumental struggles. Another Batman movie on top of that felt like oversaturation, and yet Reeves created a compelling new version of The Dark Knight that felt as fresh as a daisy and as timeless as the classic comics stories that inspired it.
A great deal of that is owed to the totality of Reeves' world, and how every little detail fits his distinctive version of Gotham City. That pays huge dividends with his villain, The Riddler, who requires delicacy to render properly, but who soars under Paul Dano's terrific performance.

Sad news for Star Wars fans today as Clive Revill, best known as the original voice of the villainous Emperor Palpatine in The Empire Strikes Back, has died at the age of 94. Over a prolific career, the actor made many appearances on stage and screen, and his passing is the loss of another star from a generation that gave the world some pioneers of modern cinema. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Revill died March 11 at a care facility in Sherman Oaks following a long battle with dementia.
Born in 1929, Revill showed a love of acting at a young age and attended many schools and colleges on his way to a professional career which began in England. When WB demanded a teen-focused Batman show from the creators of "Batman: The Animated Series," they thought outside the box and came up with "Batman Beyond." Set in a cyberpunk Neo-Gotham, the series followed teenager Terry McGinnis (Will Friedle), the protege of an aged Bruce Wayne (Kevin Conroy), as he becomes the new Batman.
In this future, Commissioner James Gordon has passed away, but his daughter Barbara (Stockard Channing/Angie Harmon), the former Batgirl, has taken his place. The new Commissioner Gordon was a relatively rare returning character. "Batman Beyond" reused a few old villains, like Mr. Freeze, Ra's Al Ghul, and in a spin-off movie, the Joker, but it mostly focused on new characters. References to Batman's good ol' days were usually kept vague, reaffirming that Terry's adventures in the "present" were what mattered most.
The "Batman Beyond" tie-in comic, though, explores Barbara in a way that the TV show never did.

"Teen Titans" is one of the best and most celebrated superhero animated shows ever made, one that, alongside "Avatar: The Last Airbender," helped change kids' shows forever with its anime-inspired look and engagement with subjects like disability and racism. It had character arcs that developed throughout each season, fantastic animation, and a tone that balanced lightheartedness with moments of gravitas and character drama. Plus, in essence, it was a show about teenagers. This last part is important, because the change from very episodic storytelling of the (still masterful) Bruce Timm shows like "Batman: The Animated Series" or "Justice League" to adding more serialized elements and character development paved the way for darker, edgier shows like "Young Justice."
Inspired by '80s storylines by Marv Wolfman and the late, great George Pérez, "Teen Titans" follows Robin (Scot Menville), the capable leader of the group; Starfire (Hynden Walch), an alien princess from...

"Batman: The Animated Series" is one of the most celebrated animated shows of all time, certainly when it comes to cartoons based on superheroes. Bruce Timm's show redefined Batman to a new generation, with an exquisite Art Deco style, and one of the best voice cast ever. After the end of the hugely successful show, there were many different directions Warner Bros. Animation could have gone with the Caped Crusader. Several ideas were explored, including a teenage Batman cartoon. Before moving forward with what would ultimately become "Batman Beyond," Timm's futuristic take on the character, there was another show in contention, one based on a big comics crossover from the '90s — "No Man's Land."
"No Man's Land" was a big crossover across the many Batman titles of 1999. The story took place after a massive earthquake struck Gotham City, leading to the government evacuating most of the city,...

None of the live-action Batman films have yet depicted the Batcave as being quite as grandiose as it is in the comics. In the "Dark Knight" trilogy, it's just some railings, platforms, and a computer console built into the cave systems under Wayne Manor. The DC Extended Universe films, from "Batman v Superman" onward, depicted the cave like a modernist house with lots of glass paneling. The best reimagining was in Matt Reeves' "The Batman," which made the Batcave look like an abandoned underground subway station -- perfect for a Batman who lives and hides in the heart of Gotham City.
The comic' Batman, though, doesn't just keep his equipment — from his Batmobile to his Batcomputer — in the Batcave. It's also stocked with trophies from his more memorable adventures. The three biggest trophies, as you might have seen in "Batman: The Animated Series," are a giant Joker card, a giant penny,...

For an animated show that represents one of the most uncompromising artistic visions ever produced for children's TV, "Batman: The Animated Series" sure had to jump through a lot of hoops for its network. Fox censorship meant there were nine things "Batman: The Animated Series" couldn't do, though the writers frequently found ways of circumventing the network's dictates, such as when "The New Batman Adventures" (as the show was later renamed) used Scarecrow to pull one over on the censors.
It's a testament to the talent of the writers, artists, and voice actors that they were able to make such a seminal piece of work in "B:tas" despite being somewhat hindered in their mission to tell more mature stories. Often, however, the writers were extremely hampered in their efforts to craft particular storylines. After all, it wasn't just the censors...

The fight over who is the best on-screen Batman will likely rage on until the end of time, but in the world of animation and video games, there is only one choice: Kevin Conroy. The beloved voice actor sadly passed away in 2022, and his final voice role has now been revealed. Netflix recently dropped the newest trailer for its Devil May Cry anime adaptation, and it's filled with '00s angst — and a nu metal soundtrack to go with it. The trailer gave fans the best look yet at Dante in action, highlighting Studio Mir's stunning animation, and revealed the full voice cast for the series. Alongside Johnny Yong Bosch, Chris Coppola, and Scout Taylor-Compton, the anime will also be Kevin Conroy's final role.

Bruce Timm is owed a lot of gratitude when it comes to his work at DC. Especially when it comes to Batman, Timm has often managed to outdo himself, especially when it came to shows like Caped Crusader and Batman: The Animated Series. It would feel like a dream come true if the creator were given control of a live-action Batman film.

In an interview with Den of Geek, the writer was able to talk about what his Batman live-action film would be like if he was given the chance, and what his opinion about those films is, given the rich history that they have.
Bruce Timm is sure he is not going to make a Batman film on par with Christopher Nolan Christian Bale as Batman in The Dark Knight Trilogy by Christopher Nolan | DC Studios
There have been a slew of great Batman films in the past.

Things are about to get "crazy" on Netflix with the April release of Devil May Cry. The anime TV adaptation of the popular Capcom series released a brand-new trailer, revealing more of its story and celebrated voice cast.
In anticipation of its upcoming release, Netflix debuted a new full-length trailer for Devil May Cry on its official YouTube channel. The nearly two-minute trailer -- set to Papa Roach’s "Last Resort" -- showcased the over-the-top action sequences one would expect from Devil May Cry, alongside the introductions of fan-favorite characters. The White Rabbit is seemingly trying to usher in a new world order dominated by demons, unless the young devil hunter Dante meets with him first. Dante, of course, would never turn down an invitation to a party, especially one as exciting as this.

When you've been an integral part of a sitcom phenomenon that's been popular for over a decade, it can be easy for people to just see an actor in the confines of their character. It may seem impossible to look at Jim Parsons and not think of Sheldon Cooper, but his work in "Hidden Figures" and "The Boys in the Band" shows an actor that's able to break free beyond the "bazinga" stigma. Simon Helberg has certainly had one of the most interesting careers of the "Big Bang Theory" bunch, having directed his own feature ("We'll Never Have Paris") in addition to starring in films directed by Leos Carax ("Annette") and the Coen Brothers ("A Serious Man").
But since the show's finale, it's Kaley Cuoco who has remained the most prevalent in the spotlight. Although she made waves in 2020 with the critically acclaimed Max original series "The Flight Attendant," she's...

The "Bat-embargo." If you're a fan of the classic DC Animated Universe (Dcau), the words probably feel like a chill in the night. If you're not, then let me explain.
See, DC Comics can be fickle about which of its characters can appear on television, and where. During the 2000s, this mostly impacted Batman and his supporting cast. Kevin Conroy's Batman was a regular on "Justice League Unlimited," which aired alongside the unconnected cartoon "The Batman," and Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" marked the return of the Dark Knight after his 1990s silver screen fall.
Reportedly, then-dc Comics President Paul Levitz was worried that kids would be confused about all of these Batmen. How would they be able to tell multiple versions of the same characters apart when they were all appearing at the same time? Hence, the Bat-embargo came into effect around 2004 (when "The Batman" debuted and "Justice League...
