- Ulysses S. Grant: [Grant shows Red Cloud a map of the Black Hills] This is your land.
- Sioux Interpreter: [Red Cloud observes the map, then speaks to the interpreter, who translates to Grant] He says, why these lines?
- Ulysses S. Grant: Boundaries, where the land ends.
- Sioux Interpreter: [Interpreter translates to Red Cloud, who replies to him] It is lies.
- Red Cloud: [Grant, outraged by his response, stands to his feet. Red Cloud also does the same and mutters a word of English] Lies.
- Gen. Alfred Terry: What happened here, Captain Benteen?
- Capt. William F. Benteen: Mistakes were made.
- Kate Bighead: We Cheyenne called him, Hi-Es-Tsie, Long Hair. The Arikara called him, Creeping Panther, who comes in the night. The Crow called him, Son of the Morning Star, who attacks at dawn. I remember him. I saw him die.
- Kate Bighead: They call it the Fetterman massacre, after the officer who swore that with 80 men, he could wipe out the entire Sioux nation. It was no massacre. Them soldiers were stupid, and they rode to their deaths.
- [Indian warriors fire barrages of arrows at Fetterman's troops]
- George Armstrong Custer: [Upon realizing he had ran into Crazy Horse's warriors] Oh God. This is not the end of the village. This is the middle!
- George Armstrong Custer: [after pursuing a group of Indians on horseback who started to scatter] They scattered. They scattered!
- [Fires his rifle in the air]
- George Armstrong Custer: Give me a civilized war! An enemy I can find and beat! An enemy who fights by the rules!
- George Armstrong Custer: [a doctor tends to the wounded deserters] Stay away from that wagon, doctor. I have no sympathy with those men. They will receive no aid. Is this clear?
- Libby Custer: Let me know what the women are wearing.
- George Armstrong Custer: I'll study them carefully.
- Libby Custer: Don't you dare.
- Kate Bighead: [Speaking the words of Crazy Horse] One does not sell the land upon which all living creatures walk.
- Ulysses S. Grant: [Speaking to Red cloud through an interpretor] You tell him this very directly. Survival is victory, Chief Red Cloud. You can't stop us now. You can only survive among us.
- George Armstrong Custer: [to Libby] I didn't marry you for me to sleep in one bed and you in another.
