The movie establishes the fact that the creation of the series and the world within the series are occurring almost concurrently; a writer can be seen typing the lines Rachel (Emma Samms) and Dr. Kirkwood (Dr. Rasche) are later saying. Yet, Carter Hedison (Raymond Burr) is in the hospital in the portrayal and at home running his business at the same time.
When Jack Gates (Robert Wagner) arrives to shoot Jack Gable (John Candy) after fixing his typewriter, Gable is already heard typing, but the shot reveals nothing on the typewriter.
When Jack (John Candy) gives Rachel (Emma Samms) a ride, Dr. Kirkwood (David Rasche) notices on his beeper he's needed in surgery, but in the next scene, he's at the Hedison Mansion with Carter Hedison (Raymond Burr).
All of the main characters attend an auction under a banner dated "Saturday, April 14." Later in the day, Carter Hedison goes home to wait for the cable guy and watches a college football game between Harvard and Yale. However, college football is played in the fall, not the spring.
There seems to be a line missing in the dialogue between Jack Gable (John Candy) and Len (John Michael Bolger). Jack calls Len, but Len automatically knows who's talking and which car is his before Jack says anything.
In the beginning of the scene where they run down before the dancing to the song "It's a Man's, Man's, Man's World", in the shot of the orchestra that's playing, the timpani player (who's supposed to be doing a roll on the drum during the intro of the song) appears to have no mallets, and the head of the drum is covered.
At the start of the movie, the cable guy is in the diner and you can see his work truck in the reflection of the diner's window. When the shot changes, his work van is no longer visible. You can see other vehicles' reflections passing by, but the cable guy's truck is gone. Then when he leaves the diner, his work truck is parked right in front and he gets in it.
When the serial writer and the actress are going away for the weekend, her luggage has to be put in the trunk of the car. While the writer is loading the luggage, he takes a moment to spray breath cleaner in his mouth. The audio does not match up with the squirting movement. Once he is finished spraying, you can still hear at least one more mist sound.
