African Queens: Njinga is a documentary series directed by Tina Gharavi and Victoria Adeola Thomas.
African Queens is a docu-series on Netflix that tells us in 4 chapters about Njinga, a queen in Central Africa who was opposed to the European invasions and who ruled the Ambundu people keeping them safe during the Sixteenth century. She was brought up to be a warrior and was also a woman with great political and diplomatic acumen.
About the Series
This is a different kind of docu-series full of dramatizations that set it apart from the classic structure of a documentary: interviews, off-screen voices, experts, current images of landscapes… none of this, in this series we find dramatization full of force, vigor and impacting images that are attractive and truly immerse us into a story that deserves to be told.
This is a great docu-series that tells us this other side of History we don´t usually dwell on,...

It feels just like last month we were complimenting Hulu on its true crime offerings. Well, with its list of new releases for February 2023, Hulu is staying in the true crime lane. Suppose that’ll happen when you push back the release date of a series or two.
February sees the arrival of three notable true crime series on Hulu. Taiwan Crime Stories premieres on Feb. 1 and presents four true tales from Taiwan’s criminal “dark underbelly.” That will be followed by ABC News Studios’ Killing County on Feb. 3. That three-episode series ponders the question “what happens when police kill?” The most interesting true crime offering premieres on Feb. 9. That’s when Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence College shares its four-episode saga of Larry Ray and the young college students he victimized.
As far as non true crime offerings go, the third and final season of Hulu...

Mbc Studios, the Saudi-owned production unit of top Middle Eastern free-to-air satellite network Mbc Group is set to launch “Blood Oath,” an Arabic crime series written by Britain’s Tony Jordan.
The announcement comes as Dubai-based Mbc Studios, set up in 2018 and headed by former president of NBCUniversal International Peter Smith, is making a major push into high-end Arabic scripted content to help kick-start a film and TV industry in Saudi Arabia.
Mbc last week at a Dubai gala launched a new version of its Shahid streaming platform and said it is raising investment in drama productions “fourfold,” though no figures were disclosed.
“Blood Oath,” which was shot in Lebanon, Greece and Cyprus, and co-produced by Mbc with Lebanon-based Eagle Films, is an Arabic adaptation of Jordan’s Albanian thriller series “Besa,” originally produced in Serbia in 2018 by Adrenalin.

Part of what makes Stephen King’s It so unique – and so engrossing – is that the legendary auteur allows his Pennywise saga to unfold across two decidedly different eras: 1958 and 1985.
And though New Line toyed around with that timeline during the transition from book to screen – Andy Muschietti’s horror hit actually kicks off in 1988 – the 27-year time gap still applies, meaning It: Chapter Two will likely begin in the year 2015, by which point the Losers Club will be fully-grown adults.
It’s a flash forward that has raised a lot of questions in the casting department, and horror fans have been quietly rooting for Jessica Chastain to land the role of adult Bev. But what about those breakout stars that anchored Muschietti’s modern gem? Indeed, will they have a role in the upcoming sequel?

1.4 The Butcher's Knife Cares Not For The Lamb's Cry
What a title this episode has. If Discovery has done nothing else, it’s brought back the spirit of the original series’ episode titles, which were essentially “how grandiose and Shakespearean can we be in fewer than 10 words”. Turns out: very.
Of course, it’s not completely without meaning. There are lots of butcher’s knives in this episode, and lots of lambs crying. Metaphorically, of course. The most Star Trek thing about this episode was Burnham’s insistence that science and compassion prevail over, like, randomly shooting stuff in the face.

The hugely ambitious Star Trek: Deep Space Nine has no shortage of classic episodes. And you'll find a few Klingons here too...
Spoilers lie ahead for Star Trek: Deep Space 9
See related Little Me: My Life From A-z by Matt Lucas review
Overlapping with both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's seven seasons had some very high points, It also had some very low ones that strayed a bit too far from the core of Star Trek for some fans, yet gave the show a unique texture that some savour.
If you only ever watch 25 stories from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, these are they, at least in my opinion – the only rule being that multi-part episodes count as one story (but great big multi-season Dominion flavoured arcs don't!)

After six movies between the linked “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” franchises, Peter Jackson appears to be finally be done with Middle Earth. Collaborator Steven Spielberg has revealed that Jackson’s next project will be for Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, after which they’ll collaborate on that “Tintin” sequel that’s been rumored for years now: “Peter was so busy with ‘The Hobbit’ that it took him away from ‘Tintin’ and he’s doing another film for my company now,” Spielberg tells TimeOut (via the New Zealand Herald). “It’s a secret, nobody knows about it. Hard to believe but it has been five years since Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson teamed up to adapt Herge's "The Adventures of Tintin" into a CG animated mo-cap features. Scoring good reviews, the film was only a soft opener in the states with $77.5 million, but in the rest of the world which grew up on the comic the film managed a further $296 million - certainly enough for a sequel to go into production.
However that hasn't happened. Jackson was to direct the film which it was thought would be based on "The Seven Crystal Balls"/"Prisoners of the Sun" two-parter, but instead opted to tackle the "The Hobbit" trilogy. With that all over back in late 2014, it remains surprising that we've yet to hear anything further which has prompted concern the project had been cancelled.

The impact of Star Trek, a television series that altered the world's expectations and put an indelible mark on many cultures around the world, is often underestimated until you realise who it had an impact on and what they went on to achieve.

Remember The Adventures of Tintin? The Steven Spielberg-directed/Peter Jackson-produced animated film that hit theatres back in 2011? Well, as you may or may not know, the filmmaking duo is planning on putting together a sequel titled The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun. However, with his current commitments to The Hobbit trilogy, it seemed as if Jackson had forgotten about the popular literary character. Now, thanks to some statements made by the director while out promoting The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, we know that this is not the case.
Speaking to Bad Taste (via ComingSoon), Jackson confirmed that he’s still lined up for the Tintin sequel and he will get to it once his commitment to Middle Earth is over.
“As soon as I’m free of ‘The Hobbit,’ I’ll be going back into doing ‘Tintin.’ It was held up by The Hobbit, but...

It looks like Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin sequel is still on! Steven Spielberg directed the first movie, which ended up being a fantastic adventure film! The plan was to have Jackson direct the sequel, and that's exactly what he still intends to do. While speaking with BadTaste.it, the director confirmed that he will start work on Tintin as soon as he's finished with his Hobbit trilogy.
"As soon as I'm free of The Hobbit, I'll be going back into doing Tintin. It was held up by The Hobbit, but we have every intention of doing another Tintin movie and it's just waiting on me to be done with these Hobbit movies."
There have been rumors that the sequel will be based on a two-part story from the series, Seven Crystal Balls and Prisoners of the Sun, and that it would be called The Adventures Of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun.

Sequels are awesome, plain and simple. Returning to familiar characters and worlds we love is like covering yourself with a warm blanket, although when a sequel is bad it can be like a blanket covered in potato bugs and lice. Studios love sequels because seven times out of ten they open huge, no matter how good they are.

Back in 2011, Steven Spielberg directed "The Adventures of Tintin," which was produced by Peter Jackson. The animated film cost about $130 million to make and ended up grossing $373 million worldwide. And the 75% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes means that critics liked it. But it wasn't even nominated for a Best Animated Film Oscar and sequel plans stalled. But Spielberg has now revealed that everything is still moving forward and the plan is to have the follow-up in theaters by Christmas of 2015. "Peter Jackson is directing the next one, I'm producing," he confirmed. "We have a script and we're going to start performance capture probably at the end of this year. We're hoping the film will come out around Christmas-time in 2015. We know which books we're making. We can.t share that now but we're combining two books which were always intended to be combined by Herge." The script was written by author Anthony Horowitz.

The Adventures of Tintin: Red Rackham's Treasure is still planned for 2015, Steven Spielberg has confirmed.
There have been very few updates on the sequel to 2011's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn since its announcement last year.
"Don't hold me to it, but we're hoping the film will come out around Christmas time in 2015," Spielberg told The Times of India.

Spielberg has previously confirmed that the second film will be based on Hergé's book Prisoners of the Sun, although rumours have since surfaced that other books - including The Calculus Affair - will also be incorporated.
Producer Peter Jackson also stated in December that the sequel is on track for a 2015 release.

Steven Spielberg has confirmed that the next "The Adventures Of Tintin" movie is still chugging along with Spielberg producing and Peter Jackson directing.
Spielberg says performance capture will likely start around the end of the year. It sounds like it will be after Jackson completes additional "Hobbit" filming mid-year and wraps the post-production on the second film.
"Tintin" requires only a month or so of mo-cap filming, but well over a year of post-production, so much of the latter process can be done while Jackson's attention is turned towards editing and finishing up post on the third "Hobbit" throughout 2014.
Spielberg says they have also selected which of the just over two dozen books they plan to adapt:

A new social campaign from the Transport Accident Commission Victoria using Melbourne Victory football players has launched to remind drivers to stay in control.
Tac, a sponsor of the Melbourne Victory has posted two slow motion videos as a competition, one of Victory captain Adrian Leijer and one of midfielder Marcos Flores taking a penalty kick.
The competition, created by agency Lifelounge, goes live today. By entering and sharing the videos on social media, one Victory fan and nine friends can win a private training session with the team.
Shot at 1000 frames a second, the videos aim to illustrate the precision and control of the players and carries the tagline “Slow down and Stay in Control.”
Three clips, which will also include players Marcos Flores and Archie Thompson, will not only run on the Tac’s YouTube channel, on the Melbourne Victory’s Facebook page but also on the large screens at football games.

When "Tintin" was first announced, the plan was for Steven Spielberg to direct the first installment, for Peter Jackson to direct the second, and a possible third film would be directed by either Spielberg, Jackson or another helmer. Spielberg directed the first movie in 2011, but it somewhat underperformed, grossing only $77 million domestically on a $130 million budget. It also wasn't even nominated for a Best Animated Film Oscar. But thanks to foreign box office, the film went on to gross $374 million globally. Apparently that was enough, because Jackson has now revealed that he hopes to being shooting the sequel in 2013. Anthony Horowitz was hired to write the script, which will likely be based on "Seven Crystal Balls" and "Prisoners of the Sun" storylines.

Now that his first entry in The Hobbit trilogy officially hits theatres in the UK today (and in the Us tomorrow), fans of the New Zealand director might be forgiven for thinking that Peter Jackson has his hands full putting together the remaining chapters, what with that being his job and such. Until next year that is, when Jackson will begin work on his sequel to Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin, apparently. Which means that, yes, there’ll be more motion capture over the next few years than you can shake an Andy Serkis at.
That’s right: Jackson has announced plans to get all the mo-cap completed as soon as he gets a bit of free time, a process that, believe it or not, might only take a number of weeks. Jamie Bell is likely to return to his role as the ginger-haired boy detective, as will...

Though the majority of his time at the moment is being spent either promoting the first part of The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey or working on the other two parts of the trilogy, Peter Jackson has not completely forgotten about animated boy reporter Tintin. Now comes word from the man himself that he has plans for making the second part of the trilogy he’s planning alongside Steven Spielberg. In October last year, Spielberg said that the sequel – currently titled Prisoners Of The Sun and once more based on Herge’s writings – had been in development for a while. “Sony and Paramount were willing to do one movie with us and then give us the financial wherewithal to develop a script, do all the visual storyboards and get it really in launch position. So we can launch pretty quickly on a second movie. The script is already written,” he explained.

With "The Adventures of Tintin" due to hit shelves on March 13, MTV News got our hands on an exclusive clip from one of the featurettes that will be included with the Blu-Ray and DVD. In it, Steven Spielberg talks about his experience reading the "Tintin" books for the first time and his response to writer and artist Herge's storytelling style.
"'Prisoners of the Sun' was the first book I got ahold of -- all written in French, but I understood the story without really understanding enough French to read every frame," Spielberg explained. "Every single panel told a story in cinematic terms, including color pallet, composition, figures in action."
He added, "Very expressive action is the way Herge would pose his characters, almost like he was trying to squeeze out 24 frames in a single frame, and succeeding. That was I think the genius of Herge: it was a movie.

Although The Adventures of Tintin hasn’t made much money in America, it’s been raking it in abroad. In fact, according to Box Office Mojo, it’s made over four times as much money in foreign sales as it has domestically. According to Collider, Spielberg claimed that his co-producer Peter Jackson will start shooting Tintin Part Deux this year: “When he’s done shooting The Hobbit, he’ll...

As fans in American continue to wait to see what The Adventures of Tintin is all about, talks of a sequel have already begun. In fact it started long before the film was released internationally. The Secret of the Unicorn wasn’t the sole basis of the actual film, but rather three that included The Crab with the Golden Claws, The Secret of the Unicorn, and Red Rackham’s Treasure. So its very possible that the sequel could include multiple works from Herge.
At first we reported that Prisoners of the Sun would be the basis of the sequel to The Adventures of Tintin and that Anthony Horowitz would be penning the adaptation. However that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore and the sequel would instead focus on The Calculus Affair.

It’s been understood for a while now that there was already a sequel to Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin in the works, one in which Spielberg was meant to trade producing and directing duties with Peter Jackson; and that’s all still a go. Before the original had opened anywhere, work was already being done on the sequel, and now that it’s become a financial success in several overseas markets, a second Tintin adventure is all but guaranteed. What has changed, however, is Spielberg and Jackson’s original plans of where the story for the sequel will actually go. We reported a while back that the sequel was tentatively titled The Adventures of Tintin: Prisoners of the Sun, and that the story they were planning to tell would be an amalgamation of two classic Tintin stories “Prisoners of the Sun” and “The Seven Crystal Balls.” Well, that...

It's never too early to start planning the next "Tintin" adventure!
There have been some rumors about which Tintin stories would be used for future sequels to "The Adventures of Tintin," and now producer Kathleen Kennedy has revealed some details that set the record at least sort of straight, according to The Playlist.
The second "Tintin" movie is currently shaping up to be "The Calculus Affair," which focuses on the kidnapping of the eccentric, hearing-impaired inventor, Professor Calculus. "Calculus" is a personal favorite of Peter Jackson, who plans on directing the second installment.
"The Calculus Affair" would introduce the character of Professor Calculus, as even though he appears in "Red Rackham's Treasure," one of the stories that "The Adventures of Tintin" incorporates (along with "The Secret of the Unicorn" and "The Crab with the Golden Claws"), he doesn't appear in the film.

As most of you probably know, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin, which will be released next week, was originally called The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Though the subtitle was dropped and the film pulls from several stories, that's the primary Herge book this first film is based on. The legendary author published about two dozen Tintin books in total but, instead of starting with the first one, Spielberg and Jackson opted to jump into the middle (Unicorn was the 11th book) because it introduced a very popular sidekick character in Captain Haddock. Since they didn't lock themselves into a specific time in the Tintin mythology, there's been much discussion about which story the potential sequel, directed by Jackson [1] and produced by Spielberg, would follow. The main rumor [2] was Prisoners of the Sun, but that was reportedly pushed to [3] a possible third movie.
