Lisa’s “Rockstar” era is here. On Tuesday, the Blackpink star’s management company Lloud announced that Lisa will be releasing her highly-anticipated single “Rockstar” on June 27.
The company announced “Rockstar” on Instagram posting a cartoonish, electric sound, seemingly teasing the new track. Lisa recently made a TikTok account, where she gained a million followers in just over 2 hours, setting a Guinness World Record.
Lisa’s first two videos on the platform, which tease the new era of music, see Lisa posing for the camera in her Ootd, garnering nearly 20 million likes across both posts.

Top 8 Simpsons Predictions That Came True. (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Fox’s The Simpsons has garnered a reputation for predicting the future. The comedy-drama, which ran for 35 seasons and consisted of 750+ episodes, truly managed to manifest moments in real-life events. 16 years ago, one of the episodes of The Simpsons predicted that Donald Trump would become US president one day, and we all know how it turned out.
The show’s major characters, Homer, Marga, Lisa, Bart, and Maggie, eerily presented what seemed like farfetched scenarios at the time. While the writers correctly predicted several events years in advance, the show has captured viewers’ fascination. As the 35th season of The Simpsons recently concluded, some recent wild storylines will inevitably join the uncanny predictions, perhaps in the coming 15-20 years. We’ll have to wait for that to come true, but let’s review the top 10 predictions that have already come true.

Throwaway classic rock lyrics can have a big influence on other artists. For example, Sabrina Carpenter said one line from one 1990s song changed her attitude toward music forever. However, she might have misunderstood the track.
Sabrina Carpenter loves a song that has some classic rock references
During a 2018 interview with Teen Vogue, Carpenter said Santana and Rob Thomas’ “Smooth” was one of the tunes that defined her life. “You know what jumped out for me on this song?” the “Espresso” singer said. “When he just name-dropped Mona Lisa. ‘Cause I was like, ‘Oh, I know the Mona Lisa.’ I was also like 12, being like, ‘I love art.'”
The “Nonsense” star explained this name-drop had a big impact on her. “As far as what I then took with me in songwriting is that you can almost find one little moment in a song that can be an entire song,...

The super popular original webtoon Death of a Pop Star from creator Violet Karim is getting the adaptation treatment from Wattpad Webtoon Studios.
Death of a Pop Star is a global success, with over 33 million views worldwide. It regales readers with the story of a beloved pop star who suddenly dies and wakes up in Hell. Luckily for her, the Grim Reaper is a massive fan of Sophie's, and he gives her another chance at life on Earth, but that comes with dangerous consequences.
Oscar winner Diablo Cody and Oscar nominee Mason Novick, with Wattpad Webtoon Studios, are adapting the popular webcomic. Cam screenwriter Isa Mazzei will pen the script. As a fan of Cody's work and Mazzei's highly underrated 2018 movie Cam (now on Netflix), I'm very excited to see what these two come up with together.
Cody recently wrote the excellent horror-comedy film, Lisa Frankenstein and the Academy Award-winning film Juno.

The bar wasn’t very high to clear, but Lionsgate’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 did manage to break a box office record here in 2024, achieving the highest opening weekend at the domestic box office out of any horror movie released this year… so far. This despite largely negative reviews, once again proving that the horror genre is as review-proof as it comes.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 debuted with $11.83M at the domestic box office in 2,856 locations, just barely topping Blumhouse’s Night Swim to rip the crown off the top of its head.
Here’s the full lineup of domestic opening weekends for horror this year…
The Strangers: Chapter 1 – $11.8 million Night Swim – $11.7 million Abigail – $10.2 million Imaginary – $9.9 million The First Omen – $8.3 million Tarot – $6.5 million Immaculate – $5.3 million Lisa Frankenstein – $3.6 million
For further context and comparison, 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night opened to $10.4 million before making $31 million worldwide, a number Chapter 1 may eventually reach.

OpenAI says its “Sky” voice for ChatGPT’s Voice Mode is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson’s voice. It is instead the “natural speaking voice” of one of its compensated voice talents, per a blog post. Still, the company says it will “pause” the availability of Sky while it addresses the issue.
“We believe that AI voices should not deliberately mimic a celebrity’s distinctive voice — Sky’s voice is not an imitation of Scarlett Johansson but belongs to a different professional actress using her own natural speaking voice,” the post reads. “To protect their privacy, we cannot share the names of our voice talents.”
OpenAI stated that they employ “well-known, award-winning” casting directors and producers to cast voice actors for the products.
But some users of the OpenAI tech questioned whether Sky was Scarlett — or at least trying to replicate her famous voice. Johansson previously voiced a fake...

Matt Groening’s long-running animated sitcom The Simpsons is known for its satirical humor, social commentary, and memorable characters. Initially premiered in 1989, it follows the lives of the dysfunctional Simpson family in the fictional town of Springfield. While the series remains an iconic part of Television history and has since become a cultural phenomenon, it has faced its share of controversy and critique.

In the "The Simpsons" episode "Future-Drama", Bart (Nancy Cartwright) and Lisa (Yeardley Smith) visit the mad scientist Professor Frink (Hank Azaria) to get a glimpse into their future. Frink has invented a future-predicting computer, and the Simpson children ask to see what they might look like as teenagers. In the year 2013, Bart is dating a cool skateboarder named Jenda (Amy Poehler) and Lisa, on her way to medical school, has had an on-again-off-again relationship with Milhouse (Pamela Hayden). Marge has been dating Krusty the Clown (Dan Castellaneta) after leaving Homer for committing a flagrant financial crime.
To ensure the episode is sufficiently surreal, there is a scene wherein the teenage Bart and the older Homer (Castellaneta) pass through a quantum tunnel and emerge on the other side with a robot they mysteriously accumulated. The robot is Bender (John Dimaggio), the drunken droid from Matt Groening's "Futurama," a series that,...

As one redditor aptly put it, Bowen Yang got “Stefon-ed” Saturday night. And by that they meant that a joke found its way onto the cards that Yang wasn’t expecting–and he could not keep it together.
That it came during a “Lisa From Temecula” sketch was the icing on the cake. You may remember that the Ego Nwodim character made her debut last season in the ten-to-one spot of the Pedro Pascal-hosted episode, and was an immediate fan favorite–in part because Yang and the rest of the players in the sketch broke.
In that case, the cast was thrown off by some unexpectedly strong table shaking. In this case, it was apparently a last-minute line change.
All seemed to be going as planned as Nwodim reprised her “Lisa From Temecula” character for the third time, requisite table-shaking and all. That is, until toward the end of the...

Look, we’re not just tooting our own horn here when we say that Peso Pluma’s headlining set at the second night of Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase at the Moody Theater was the buzziest show in town on Wednesday. Fans started queueing up hours before the música mexicana megastar took the stage — one dedicated kid was there at 4 a.m., no typo — and all day, people were talking about the spectacle to come. But this is SXSW, and there’s never just one show worth seeing.

The stage at the 17th Annual Women in Film Oscar Nominees was scarcely big enough for the impressive show of sisterhood on display.

Kathryn Newton is inevitably one of the best actresses of this generation. Yet, her recent onscreen performances aren’t quite catching fire at box offices the same way they did before. Just like how her Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) managed to gross almost thrice its budget, her recent Ant-Man 3 failed to land the mark and ended with a disappointing box office run.
Kathryn Newton in The Society
As it seems, that losing box-office streak of hers isn’t dying down easily. This comes after her most recent movie Lisa Frankenstein suffered a devastating blow at the worldwide box office to end its run with a gross even less than its budget. Despite this, her fans still have high hopes for this film, even predicting that it would go on to become a cult classic following its release on streaming.

It’s unsurprising that Adam Sandler’s “Spaceman” is an immediate #1 for Netflix, but you have to wonder if the Sandler audience knew what it was getting: It’s the story of a long-distance solo astronaut who encounters loneliness and a mutant spider on his journey to Venus. Directed by Johan Renck, who won a DGA Award for his direction of HBO miniseries “Chernobyl,” it premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Reviews are mediocre and, per Netflix practice, it had token one-week showings in limited theaters. “Spaceman: debuted on the streamer March 1 and it will be interesting to see what kind of hold it maintains. For now, it’s another example of how Sandler uses his Netflix deal to expand his scope. (The film was produced by Channing Tatum’s Free Association.)
The film costars Carey Mulligan, currently a Best Actress Oscar nominee for another Netflix original, “Maestro.

Rudy Mancuso is ready to woo Camila Mendes with his life story, as told through song.
The digital creator makes his big screen debut writing, directing, and starring in “Música,” which charts his own coming-of-age story as an artist with synesthesia. Mancuso hears music everywhere, especially when he locks eyes with Isabella (Mendes) while at a New Jersey diner. Set in Newark, “Música” follows Mancuso’s balance of love, family, and his Brazilian culture.
The film will premiere at the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival on March 13. Mancuso wrote and directed the feature, with Dan Lagana co-writing. “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star J.B. Smoove, Francesca Reale, and Maria Mancuso also round out the cast.

If you were a teenager in the 1990s (like me!), few things mattered to you like The Crow. The 1994 film captured goth/grunge cool. From its origins as an indie comic book to its legendary soundtrack to its tragic production, The Crow captured the mood of a generation.
Which is to say that the first look at Bill Skarsgård in the upcoming remake of The Crow might be a bit of a shock. And if you were a teenager in the ’90s, your heart isn’t what it used to be, so you might want to sit down. Have a look at the first image of Skarsgård as the titular anti-hero…

The horror comedy Lisa Frankenstein (you can read our review Here), which came to us from director Zelda Williams (making her feature directorial debut) and screenwriter Diablo Cody, just reached theatres on February 9th… and it hasn’t exactly been a smash, drawing just $9 million at the domestic box office so far. Maybe now it will be able to draw in more viewers, as they’re going to have the chance to watch the movie in the comfort of their own homes: Universal Pictures has already given Lisa Frankenstein a digital release, and it’s available to watch through sites like Amazon.
Set in 1989, Lisa Frankenstein has the following synopsis: A coming of Rage love story from acclaimed writer Diablo Cody about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse. After a set of playfully horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the...

After dipping into the world of H.P. Lovecraft in Re-Animator (listen) and checking out an early adaptation of The Portrait of Dorian Gray (listen), somehow we’re already on our third episode of February. And while the holiday doesn’t line up, we couldn’t pass up a chance to revisit Friday the 13th (2009) for its fifteenth anniversary.
In the Marcus Nispel remake, a group of friends travel to the palatial country house of Trent (Travis Van Winkle) near what was once Camp Crystal Lake. As Trent’s girlfriend Jenna (Danielle Panabaker) bonds with Clay (Jared Padalecki) over the disappearance of his sister Whitney (Amanda Righetti), their friends Chewie (Aaron Yoo), Bree (Julianna Guill), Lawrence (Arlen Escarpeta), Nolan (Ryan Hansen) and Chelsea (Willa Ford) are being picked off one by one by Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).

Jennifer’s Body writer Diablo Cody returned to horror over the weekend with the theatrical release of horror-comedy Lisa Frankenstein, directed by Zelda Williams and starring Kathryn Newton (Freaky) and Cole Sprouse (“Riverdale”). While the film may go on to become a cult favorite, it unfortunately didn’t make much of a splash in its opening weekend.
Lisa Frankenstein scared up just $3.8 million in its theatrical debut here in the United States, with Focus Features giving the film a massive wide release in 3,144 total theaters.
The production budget for Zelda Williams’ Lisa Frankenstein was a reported $13 million, so the film has quite a long way to go before it starts turning a profit for Focus Features.
The film is currently “rotten” on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, with a 49% Tomatometer score. The good news? The film’s audience score is much higher at 82% fresh.

The Super Bowl sacked the domestic box office this weekend as revenue fell to historic lows due to the weekend-long frenzy over Sunday’s showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, and an ongoing winter slowdown in major Hollywood studio titles.
Combined ticket sales clocked in at an estimated $40 million, the worst showing for Super Bowl weekend in more than three decades outside of 2021, when many theaters were still closed because of the Covid-19 crisis, according to Comscore. Revenue in 2021 was $7.7 million.
The last time revenue was lower was several instances in the mid- to late -’80s, per Comscore.
There is an upside: Hollywood studios aren’t obsessing too much about weekend grosses. Instead, many are getting ready to drop splashy — and pricey — new spots for their movies.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains mild spoilers for “Lisa Frankenstein,” in theaters now.
Zelda Williams has no problem admitting that her feature directorial debut “Lisa Frankenstein” isn’t destined to be considered a cinematic masterpiece.
“First and foremost, this movie Isn’T a groundbreaking spiritual journey that will change your worldly perceptions,” she wrote in a filmmaker’s statement, “but it Is a ride — so maybe just try to put your hands in the air and let the coaster take you!”
And that it is — a rollercoaster homage to 1980s slasher films. Written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody, “Lisa Frankenstein” stars Kathryn Newton as a high school outsider who falls for a centuries-old non-verbal corpse (Cole Sprouse) that has come back to life.
The two embark on a journey of friendship, love and missing body parts. They go on a killing spree to replace the corpse’s deteriorated appendages, including a hand,...

It isn’t alive, unfortunately. “Lisa Frankenstein” is facing a quiet opening at the domestic box office after earning $1.7 million from 3,144 locations on its opening day, including $700,000 in Thursday previews. The Focus Features release will likely fall behind the second frame of Apple Studios’ “Argylle,” which crashed in its debut last weekend.
“Lisa Frankenstein” is looking at a soft debut with around $4 million over the three-day frame. It’s not a very strong start for the horror-aesthete romantic comedy, though a very modest $13 million production price tag means that Focus is facing a softened financial hit should the movie not stick around theaters. Reviews have been mixed and audiences aren’t very enthused either, as indicated by research firm Cinema Score’s “B” grade from surveying early audiences.
Diablo Cody pens “Lisa Frankenstein,” a PG-13 romance about a mad scientist teenager who decides to build her own boyfriend from a corpse.

“Weird Science” for lonely goth chicks who spend all of their free time reading sad poetry in the graveyard behind their evil step-mother’s house, the admirably deranged if frustratingly undead “Lisa Frankenstein” might be one of the more irreverent riffs on Mary Shelley’s immortal horror novel, but there’s also something full circle about bringing that story back around to the kind of teenage girl who wrote it in the first place.
In other words, Zelda Williams’ directorial debut — a bloody rom-com about a grieving outcast who accidentally wishes her favorite Victorian era corpse back to “life,” and then starts killing people in order to replace her Bff’s rotted parts — isn’t just a cute pun in search of an ’80s throwback to go along with it.

15 years ago Diablo Cody and Karyn Kusama joined forced to deliver "Jennifer's Body," a genuine cult classic that went from mismarketed box office failure maligned by critics who didn't understand its brilliance, to the reclaimed favorite that became one of the selling points in the marketing for "Lisa Frankenstein." Cody returns to the teen horror comedy space alongside Zelda Williams (in her feature directorial debut) with a zany, heartfelt, and unapologetically odd story about a particularly peculiar high school outcast named Lisa (Kathryn Newton) who goes on a murderous adventure with the reanimated corpse of a young man — whose grave she hangs out at — in search of new limbs, a sense of autonomy, and maybe even love.
Set against the backdrop of the candy-coated neon bubblegum of the 1980s, "Lisa Frankenstein" makes no qualms about being for weirdos, and by weirdos. It's the resulting lovechild of a raucous orgy between "Edward Scissorhands,...

While the horror film Jennifer’s Body was met by a lukewarm reception when it was first released in 2009, it has undergone a renaissance of sorts in recent years. People have realized that behind the inaccurate marketing of the movie lies a campy, yet powerful, story about two teenage girls whose relationship is forever changed by a group of young men seeking power. There are a few things, like certain lines of dialogue, that haven’t necessarily aged well in the 15 years since the film’s release, but overall the movie has been reclaimed as a queer horror classic.
Alongside people giving Jennifer’s Body another chance are those also seeking to give one of the film’s stars, Megan Fox, her long overdue flowers. Not just for her performance in this movie, but also to try and make up for all of the unjust hate and sexism hurled her way around the time the film premiered.

A lot of generic posters are hitting theater walls this month. That doesn’t mean I still didn’t almost put Argylle (February 2) below just because I cannot believe no one told them their teaser looked like a Minion that ate a cat. It’s simply the time of year where studios release titles they don’t have much confidence in and thus barely bother spending much resource on in hopes of breaking even.
There are a few gems bucking that trend, though––unsurprisingly, the indies and foreign films vying for prime counter-programming real estate. Now is their chance to lure in unsuspecting ticket-buyers and become a sleeper hit.

The simplicity of GrandSon’s Lisa Frankenstein (February 9) is what makes it a winner for me. The clean silhouette of its actors in a loving embrace (despite the ax at the ready) against a pink moon renders it...

As much as people complain about Hollywood putting out the same things year after year, the fact remains that name recognition gets people into theater seats. Moreover, remakes and reboots give filmmakers an opportunity to retell beloved stories from a different perspectives. In this age of high-budgets and higher-expectations, reboots and remakes are among the only types of movies that major studios like to make these days.
So whether you’re feeling cynical about this year’s offerings or optimistic about the second swings filmmakers are taking, here are the biggest reboots and remakes coming in 2024.
Mean Girls (January 12)
Although the promotional materials tried to do their best to conceal it, the 2024 Mean Girls doesn’t so much adapt the beloved 2004 comedy, but rather the Broadway musical that followed. Which means that, yes, viewers will hear more songs than “Jingle Bell Rock.” Singer Reneé Rapp reprises her stage performance as lead Plastic Regina George,...

Two years after publicly announcing their separation, Lisa Bonet has officially announced her divorce from Jason Momoa.
Bonet officially filed a petition to end their marriage on January 5, citing irreconcilable differences. Bonet listed the date of separation as October 7, 2020.
Bonet and Momoa married in 2017, and they have two kids with each other. Bonet asked for joint legal and physical custody of their two children but did not request spousal support. The two were together for 16 years before separating.
Bonet also has a child, Zoe Kravitz, with Lenny Kravitz.
The couple announced the two were separating on Instagram in 2022 in a joint statement.
“We share our family news: That we are parting ways in marriage,” the statement read. “We share this not because we think it’s newsworthy, but so that, as we go about our lives we may do so with dignity and honesty.”

Diablo Cody knows a thing or two about writing a killer horror-comedy. While 2009’s :a[Jennifer’s Body]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/jennifer-body-review/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} – penned by Cody, and directed by Karyn Kusama – received a mixed reception on initial release, it’s now hailed as a ‘00s classic that was largely mis-marketed and misunderstood at the time. And now, nearly 15 years later, that blend of macabre thrills, sardonic wit, and outsized teen emotions is set to come together again in Cody’s latest film. She’s back in horror-comedy territory with the Zelda Williams-directed :a[Lisa Frankenstein]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/kathryn-newton-falls-for-a-corpse-in-the-trailer-for-diablo-cody-scripted-lisa-frankenstein/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'}, spinning Mary Shelley’s gothic monument into an ‘80s-set tale of young loss and love, as Kathryn Newton’s grieving Lisa finds an emotional connection with… er, a grunting,...

Genies, at least in pop culture, have long been comic foils. Way back in 1940, in “The Thief of Bagdad,” Rex Ingram played Djinn, the movie’s larger-than-life genie — 100 feet tall in his ponytail and red diaper — as a sly, laughing soul man of lighthearted effrontery. The surrealist ’60s sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie” featured Barbara Eden, in diaphanous harem silks, as a magical servant/housewife, blinking her eyes to teleport her clueless “master” out of trouble. And Robin Williams’ vocal performance as the Genie in “Aladdin” may have come closer than any of his other film performances to channeling Williams the free-associational joke geyser.
So in “Genie,” when Melissa McCarthy pops out of a jewel box and reveals herself to be an ancient granter of wishes named Flora, it’s hardly a surprise that 1) the character is a complete lark, and 2) the whole joke is that Flora, though she hasn...

You have to really watch your language when hanging out with a genie. Especially a genie who can grant unlimited wishes. After all, it’s too easy to utter the words “I wish” when you don’t really mean them, and the result could be that you accidentally send someone directly to Hell. So please, please, be careful what you say.
If that warning seems a bit fanciful, then you haven’t seen the new holiday-themed Christmas movie premiering on Peacock. Genie features so many jokes revolving around characters carelessly uttering “I wish” only to have to quickly reverse themselves that the film seems more like a public service announcement than a would-be holiday classic.
Written by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill), the streaming film is a loose remake of Bernard and the Genie, a 1991 BBC television movie that he also scripted. You can’t blame...

The sequel to 2018’s Believer has left fans more than dissatisfied. It’s already an established fact that the only good thing about the film is Han Hyo-Joo’s performance, which has taken over social media for her badassery alone. The film attempts to fill the gaps like plastering over the Mona Lisa, making a terrible sequel to a well-received film. What made Believer a big hit was the impressive cast, the action-packed story that kept you on the edge of your seats, as well as the impactful ending. Believer 2 begins before that open ending, leading up to the moments there, and then completely ruins it. We suppose you can’t trust anything with Believer in the title right now. If you’re looking for some fantastic Korean thrillers to make yourself feel better after seeing this blunder, here’s the perfect list for you.

Focus Features has released a teaser trailer and new poster for Lisa Frankenstein, a horror comedy the studio describes as a “coming of rage story.” The twisted take on the classic Frankenstein tale centers on a lonely girl who goes to extraordinary lengths to connect with the perfect guy.
Kathryn Newton (Big Little Lies) stars as the teenager longing to hook up with her crush, played by Cole Sprouse (Riverdale). The cast also includes Liza Soberano (Make It With You), Henry Eikenberry (The Crowded Room), Joe Chrest (Stranger Things), and Carla Gugino (The Fall of the House of Usher). Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) dives back into the horror genre with Lisa Frankenstein, and Zelda Williams (daughter of Robin Williams) makes her feature film directorial debut with the project.
