When it comes to sheer volume of movie adaptations under their belt, it's tough to find a working author with more cinematic dominance than Stephen King. The horror master continues to pump out new books on a yearly basis, and Hollywood keeps pace with movie after movie based on his best, most popular, and -– after years of mining from the cream of the crop –- even just-okay-est works. As of publication time, there are currently about a dozen King adaptations reportedly in the works, including Lynne Ramsay's spin on "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon," Bryan Fuller's "Christine" remake, Osgood Perkins' "The Monkey," and the long-awaited "Salem's Lot" revamp from Gary Dauberman and Warner Bros.
At some point in the future, it seems likely that every King work ever written will get the big or small screen treatment. However, there's one book that's been absent from fan...

Gareth Edwards' 2016 nostalgia-fest "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" seems to have been made to address what some people call a plot hole in George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars." In Lucas' film, the young Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) pilots a light attack craft up to a miniature hole in the exterior of the moon-sized Death Star, drops a bomb in it, and causes the entire superstructure to blow up. It is a satisfying ending to an exhilarating sci-fi pulp adventure.
Starwoids, however, watched Lucas films enough times that they began to ask questions. Why, the query went, would the deathly efficient Empire build a moon-sized planet-killing machine with such a grievous design flaw? Why build something so large and overpowered if a single bomb from a light attack craft can destroy it entirely?
The makers of "Rogue One" took that criticism to heart, and backward-engineered a story to explain the flaw.

It might not be immediately apparent from songs like “Sweet Child o’ Mine” or “November Rain,” but Slash’s roots are in the blues. “Everybody knows me as a rock & roll guitar player,” he tells Rolling Stone. “When I was a kid, though, I was exposed to great blues music from my family. Ahead of Contra arriving in Vampire Survivors with Operation Guns, developer Poncle has released a new free 1.10 update for the roguelike entitled the “Laborratory” update. The update adds new achievements for those of you who love that sort of thing, as well as a new character, new stages and new weapons.
“Since the early days of Vs, people have been asking important questions like ‘Why is it called Santa Water?’,” reads the update. The Laborratory update aims to address that, introducing the Santa Ladonna character to Vampire Survivors, who starts out with nothing but a temporary cooldown bonus, and automatically triggers a Rosary when reaching critically low Hp.
For weapons, you have the new Santa Javelin, which evolves into Seraphic Cry. Starting out, the Santa Javelin aims for random enemies, can critically hit and turn the Duration stat into additional Amount for itself. In order to evolve it into the Seaphic Cry,...

There are not a lot of actors in Hollywood whose presence itself on-screen exudes badassery. Liam Neeson has carved a unique niche for himself in the film industry, where directors and producers look up to him for serious roles. From Schindler’s List to Batman Begins, the actor has carefully picked feathers for his cap that are a testament to his effervescent acting abilities.
However, he often goes offbeat and picks up projects that show off a different side to his demanding presence on the silver screen, like he is about to do in his upcoming The Naked Gun Reboot.

Xbox has set a groundbreaking record, all thanks to Palworld aka “Pokemon with guns”. The company revealed in an official blog post that the game has crossed more than 10 million players on Xbox.
Palworld was released in January for PC and Xbox and was also made available on Game Pass. This resulted in a massive surge of players from the console, giving Xbox its biggest month ever with regards to total play time.
Overtaken only by Helldivers 2, Palworld is arguable one of the biggest (and surprising) video game releases of 2024 so far. The game took the internet by storm not only for its tiny similarities to Pokemon but also because of its highly appreciated gameplay.
Palworld had the biggest third-party launch in the history of Xbox, beating High on Life. On Steam, the game quickly soared up the charts and achieved 2 million concurrent players at a point. For reference, Pubg...

At the True/False Film Festival, packed with an array of nonfiction films from around the globe, there’s an overarching sense of connection and familiarity that emerges by the end of the four-day documentary showcase. True/False has held court in the charming college town of Columbia, Missouri as a haven for documentary film lovers for 21 years. IndieWire was particularly taken with the conversations that ensued throughout the festival — from Q&As to post-screening chit-chat — as we streamed out of the city’s historic theaters. Subtler conversations arose between the films themselves.
While the settings of the films were varied — Michigan to Mumbai, Armenia to Alphabet City — the best films touched on universal ideas: the connection between art and selfhood, changing political landscapes, and preparations for death and departure from this world. Here are some of the highlights of this year’s festival, all of which are still looking for U.

"The Godfather" trilogy is one of the most quotable series of films in cinema history. While the second and third installments of the series have their memorable lines, it's 1972's "The Godfather" which contains the bulk of the trilogy's most indelible dialogue. To illustrate the point: it seems everyone and their father has a Marlon Brando-as-Don Corleone impression in their back pocket (whether that impression is any good or not is another matter), and while the main reason for that is due to Brando's unique take on the character, it wouldn't be half as popular to do at parties and whatnot without the excellent lines from the film to back it up.
Most of this dialogue comes courtesy of "Godfather" author Mario Puzo, with co-screenwriter and director Francis Ford Coppola choosing to include the bulk of Puzo's prose in his screen adaptation. Although some of the dialogue in...

Whoopi Goldberg criticized the singer’s lyrics and use of imagery in the music video.
The vid is interlaced with clips of protestors vandalizing cities in the wake of police brutality and racial unrest during the height of the pandemic.

There are numerous reasons why "John Wick" has become one of the most surprisingly successful action franchises of the last 20 years. From the very start, a high premium was placed on world-building, which lends depth and purpose to the hyperkinetic action. Casting was also key. Keanu Reeves had already proved himself in the fields of kung and gun-fu, but surrounding him with top-notch character actors like Ian McShane, Willem Dafoe, John Leguizamo, and the late, great Lance Reddick gave the first film a knowing, dignified air. When actors of this caliber are game for an independently produced action flick, you figure it's got a bit more on the ball than a dashed-off, Dtv affair.
The films have grown more ambitious with each chapter, culminating in the nearly three-hour-long "John Wick: Chapter 4." This installment is almost certainly Reeves' final go-round as Wick, so it goes hard. How hard? It's the...

Take a mesmerizing journey through the world of everyday objects in this hypnotizing animated short film. Grands Canons (not to be confused with the Grand Canyon) is a short film from French filmmaker / artist Alain Biet. Superimposed, condensed, multiplied, thousands of documentary drawings in successive series come to life on the screen, composing a veritable visual symphony of everyday objects. The film is made up of thousands upon thousands of hand-painted images of every day objects, from bulbs to phones to pipes to keys to tools to electronics to utensils to everything else you can think of. The name translates to Big Guns, which is a bit of an odd odd title for this. It originally premiered at film festivals back in 2018 and has been playing around for years before finally ending up online for everyone to enjoy. The perfect detailing in every single painting is just extraordinary; I'd like...

The 1990 song "Blaze of Glory" from the "Young Guns II" soundtrack is impossible to resist. I feel pretty confident in saying that, when you read the title of that song, it began playing in your head. In fact, you'll be singing it for the rest of the day, and if anyone else is around, they'll join in with the harmony. Maybe you, like a young version of me, watched the video repeatedly, admiring ... the music. I didn't mean the exceedingly good-looking Jon Bon Jovi himself. Okay, that's a lie, but the song really is pretty great. There is a reason it's performed at every karaoke bar, including the fictional one in the afterlife in "The Good Place."
What you might not have realized about the song you cannot stop singing now that I've mentioned it, is that it was written over dinner with two stars of the 1990 sequel to 1988's "Young Guns.

You might feel like you need a shower after Blonde, but hey, at least it’s not bland. In his first narrative feature in 10 years, Andrew Dominik brings intoxicating visual style and a voyeuristic leer to Joyce Carol Oates’ 700-plus page biographical fiction novel of the same name. A mythic fable about Marilyn Monroe as an unwanted child desired by millions, passed around by men as she desperately searched for someone to call “Daddy” on her path to self-destruction, this is a treatise on celebrity and the sex symbol that blurs not only reality with fantasy but also empathy with exploitation. Either despite or because of all that, it’s a must-see.
There’s a lot of great stuff here, particularly a raw performance from Ana de Armas that strips the most examined woman in pop-culture history bare, literally and metaphorically. But as...

There has been a lot of hype built around the upcoming film, Blonde, which is to be a look into the tragic life of actress Marilyn Monroe. From the casting decision of Ana De Armas – who has shown to be a really good doppelganger, but some are struggling with hints of her accent still peeking through – to the Nc-17 rating the film has received from the MPAA, many are curious about the film for numerous reasons.
Recently, Armas sat down with L’Officiel to discuss how the Nc-17 rating shouldn’t be a stigma. Despite the film being available online for streaming, the rare rating usually indicates that no one under 17 years old is not allowed in any fashion to view the movie in the theater, as opposed to an R rating where viewers under 17 can still attend with an adult present. Usually, such a rating is given if there is explicit sexual content presented.

“Joker” was a very New York movie — so much so that tourists flocked to the Bronx staircase where Joaquin Phoenix danced in a montage.
But the sequel, “Joker: Folie á Deux,” will shoot in Los Angeles, thanks to 12.6 million in tax credits to Warner Bros. from the state of California.
The California Film Commission announced its latest round of credit allocations on Monday morning, awarding 93.7 million to 18 projects. The recipients include an untitled indie film from Sofia Coppola and Amazon’s MGM, which will get 19.6 million to make the latest iteration of “The Thomas Crown Affair.”
Netflix — which has dominated recent rounds — once again took the lion’s share of the funding, with 37.1 million — or 40 of the total.
The streamer got 16.6 million for “Rebel Moon: Part 2,” just a year after getting 18.5 million in California tax credits to make the first “Rebel Moon,” a space epic from Zack Snyder. The two...

Chris Licht, who took over leadership of CNN Worldwide last month, wants to rein in the use of the “breaking news” banner.
In a memo to employees on Thursday, Licht wrote that the network has added a “breaking news” guideline to its stylebook, addressing complaints that the banner is overused.
“It has become such a fixture on every channel and network that its impact has become lost on the audience,” Licht said, according to the memo obtained by Deadline (read it below).
Licht added, “We are truth-tellers, focused on informing, not alarming our viewers. You’ve already seen far less of the ‘Breaking News’ banner across our programming. The tenor of our voice holistically has to reflect that. As I have said, we must be vital, relevant, and respected – and how we show up for our audiences, in every story, in every part of the country, and around the world,...

This husband and wife will do anything not to be a cookie-cutter suburban couple.
The latest trailer for “Deep Water” shows Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas playing Vic and Melinda Allen, respectively, a seemingly perfect couple who dabble in dangerous mind games that may or may not lead to murder. When Vic is left watching Melinda flaunting extramarital relationships, one supposed lover winds up floating face-down in their pool.
“It’s always been a game,” Melinda warns her spouse. Well, anything to stave off domestic boredom.
And it turns out Vic just can’t get enough of Melinda’s intriguing dark side. “Why are you the only man who wants to stay with me?” Melinda asks, to which Vic can only assure her — and later, his friends — that Melinda constantly keeps him guessing, which seems to be the sexiest game of all.

Activision Blizzard is currently under investigation following accusations of harassment, discrimination, and fostering a hostile work environment. You can read more about the investigation here.
Warzone‘s long-awaited Pacific update is finally here, which means that it’s time to take a look at which of the updates new guns are dominating the battle royale’s new map and new meta.
While we’re used to seeing Warzone balance updates that change the game’s competitive dynamic, it’s not an exaggeration to say that the Pacific update essentially makes Warzone an entirely new game. There are a few weapons and strategies that remain as viable as ever, but the influx of new guns (as well as some major balance updates) means that you’re going to want to take some time to get the lay of the land before diving into Caldera.

Death is a common theme, it seems, in each of the six-part limited documentary series National Geographic previewed at Disney+ Day.
“There is a real risk you could die,” one expert tells Chris Hemsworth in the trailer for the actor’s sojourn into biohacking and self discovery, Limitless.
The series follows Hemsworth’s mission to discover how we can live healthier, smarter and longer lives. Hemsworth aims to transform himself by training for six extraordinary challenges, showing how to fight aging at every stage of life.
The trailer opens with Hemsworth dangling on a rope 1,000 feet in the air, then quickly runs through a montage of stunningly-shot footage including the Thor actor immersing himself in frigid water, surfing big waves, bungee jumping, pulling a golf cart in a harness, spear fishing and engaging in some sort of shamanistic ritual.

As the first worldwide screenings of the latest James Bond installment “No Time to Die” came to a close, journalists and critics took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Daniel Craig’s last outing as the famed secret agent.
Though social media reactions tend to be more positive than reviews, one thing was clear via film Twitter: “No Time to Die,” which was delayed for nearly two years due to creative changes and the Covid-19 pandemic, was well worth the wait.
Film critic Scott Mantz wrote that though he needed more time to process the film, it was certainly better than Bond films “Quantum of Solace” and “Spectre.” “It’s Daniel Craig’s most grounded and — dare I say it? — most intimate take on #JamesBond with a powerful, unexpected & very emotional payoff,” Mantz said. “Def worth the wait!”

Above: Bone (1972) / The Furies (1950)In 1967, Barbara Stanwyck was looking back on a five-decade career, a feat few of her early Hollywood peers could match. Having spent much of the past decade working exclusively in television—she was an actress, she reasoned, so if movie scripts weren’t coming in, she would act on TV—she had found more failures than success. But by the late 60s, Stanwyck was finally where she wanted to be: the star of The Big Valley, an ABC Western that ran four seasons from 1965 - 1969. Stanwyck played matriarch Victoria Barkley on the series, which focused on the lives and loves of the millionaire Barkley ranching family.Like many series of the time, The Big Valley had a constant stream of guest stars, but one young actor stood out to Stanwyck when he guested on the show as an ex-slave serving as convict labor on the Barkley ranch.

“They've all come to look for America. All come to look for America. All come to look for America” —Simon & Garfunkel, "America"“That’s the Doctor”, says Robert Kramer at the start of Route One/USA (1989), talking sullenly over a series of shots of a sharply dressed man stepping off a freight ship and onto dry land. “We’ve been away a long time. We decided to come back together”, Kramer adds, before clarifying—“not home, but back.” He then starts to murmur, before trailing off. “Back there, behind you, the origins, the start.” After a pause, “let’s go” he says, reasserting his confidence through direct address. “Let’s go North, all the way North to where Route 1starts.” An intermittently audible but otherwise entirely invisible presence in his own documentary, Kramer says all that he needs to say about the film in these opening moments, introducing the mood...

Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard assembles a group of Seattle all-stars for a cover of “Highwayman,” the Jimmy Webb song about the eternal spirit that became the signature of Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson, and Johnny Cash’s country music supergroup, the Highwaymen.
As part of a benefit concert supporting Seattle Children’s Hospital, Gibbard recruited a small army of Pacific Northwest musicians: Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, and Screaming Trees’ Mark Lanegan join Gibbard in each taking a verse of the song.

Josh Ruben has definitely seen “The Shining,” likely more than once, and probably took notes at least half of the time. Having boned up on his horror classics, the actor-turned-writer-director gleefully kills more than a few of those darlings in his clever feature debut, “Scare Me.” Bolstered by a creative storytelling set-up, Ruben and his very game co-star Aya Cash skewer horror tropes as well as cultural obsessions ranging from TV talent shows to the Bechdel Test.
The result is — perhaps too much. With a padded running time that clocks in at nearly 105 minutes, the film seems like the perfect pick for a snappy, scary 90-minute event. Initially imagining writer’s block and creative stultification as man’s greatest horrors (see: “The Shining”) before moving into a deeper exploration of the trauma of gender relations, “Scare Me” packs ambitious ideas inside a small-scale concept.

Exclusive: Mark Wahlberg canine adventure pic Arthur The King has moved from Paramount Players to Lionsgate for domestic and will enter the Cannes virtual market on the slate of eOne-backed international sales firm Sierra/Affinity.
The film re-teams Wahlberg with his Contraband and 2 Guns director Baltasar Kormakur and is likely to be among the most in-demand projects at the virtual event, not least because international buyers will have the security of knowing a U.S. deal is in place, which is a rare thing for a pre-sales title and an added bonus amid coronavirus uncertainty.
The true story is based on the 2017 book Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed The Jungle To Find A Home, by Mikael Lindnord, the captain of a Swedish adventure racing team. “Have you learned nothing from video games?” asks one character during a momentary lull from noisy mayhem in “Guns Akimbo.” It’s the wrong question for this movie, whose makers have clearly learned from little else. Those wanting to kiss a few brain cells goodbye may enjoy this bombastic, crassly jokey action cartoon with Daniel Radcliffe as a dweeb who finds himself unpleasantly designated a new player in the unsimulated kill-or-die game he’s been watching online.
Jason Lei Howden’s Kiwi-German co-production should do a bit better than last year’s vaguely similar Tiff-premiering enterprise “Nekrotronic,” but it still seems primarily a streaming item.
Radcliffe’s Miles is a stereotypical 21st-century nerd living alone in an action-figure-crammed flat, whose only girlfriend is the ex he’s still stuck on (Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Nova), and who’s bullied by a frat-bro boss at his job working for a company...
