Brad Dourif has had an incredible acting career that stretches back more than fifty years – and back in the early days of that career, he even earned a “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Over a decade later, he started playing the role he is best known for, that of Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll. Dourif is now 74 years old, so when we hear that he has decided to retire from acting, it’s totally understandable… but while talking about his retirement, Dourif has also made sure to assure fans that his days of Chucky are not over. He will still continue to work on any Chucky projects that might come up.

How did you come to know our lord and savior, Count Orlok? If you're of a certain age, your first exposure might have come from the "SpongeBob SquarePants" episode "Graveyard Shift," in which the rascally vampire kept secretly flickering the lights during the night shift at the Krusty Krab. Or maybe you watched "Shadow of the Vampire," E. Elias Merhige's darkly comedic 2000 fictional account about the making of F.W. Murnau's 1922 German Expressionist classic "Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror." Or perhaps you even saw Murnau's unauthorized "Dracula" adaptation itself or Werner Herzog's 1979 remake "Nosferatu the Vampyre" (which did away with any pretenses and just referred to Orlok as Count Dracula).
Whatever the case, Orlok has sunk his fangs deep into our collective pop-cultural consciousness these last 100-plus years. With his pallid visage, sunken eyes, and bald head, he just stands out from all those other blood-suckers, straddling the...

Rob Savage makes scary movies.
After smashing his way into the horror scene with the pandemic chiller "Host" and the divisive horror comedy "Dashcam," Savage made his first major studio movie earlier this year with "The Boogeyman," an adaptation of the Stephen King story of the same name. And while it was a sleeper hit at the box office, the most exciting aspect of the film was that it proved Savage could take on a much bigger movie without losing his edge. This is a frightening film, one coated in dread and literal darkness, with a story just as interested in its shattered characters as its unsettling monster. Some horror directors abandon their spark when they work on a bigger, more expensive studio project. It looks like Savage thrives.

Gabriel Macht may have made a name for himself on "Suits," but it turns out, acting chops run in the family. His father, Stephen Macht, is not only a seasoned actor, but was also a recurring character on his son's hit drama series.
Stephen kicked off his acting career in the '70s and was best known for credits like "The Monster Squad" and Stephen King's "Graveyard Shift," before starring opposite Gabriel's Harvey Specter on "Suits." The 81-year-old actor portrayed Henry Gerard, a legal ethics professor at Harvard Law School. Stephen appeared in six episodes in seasons three through nine, with his character both butting heads and teaming up with Harvey on several occasions. As one of the few who was aware of Mike Ross's secret, Gerard played a pivotal role in keeping Mike from being exposed as a fraud.
"Gabriel coaches me as Professor Gerard; the student has become the teacher.

Okay ramblers, let’s get rambling… In the mid-90s, there were few directors more exciting than Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Guys who clawed their ways into the movie business by sheer determination and talent, they wore their love for cinema on their sleeves and made no bones about it. They helped kickstart a wave of movie nerds who’d be calling their own shots and making millions for the studio system; suddenly it seemed like being able to endlessly quote Martin Scorsese or John Carpenter movies meant you might get a shot at sitting in the director’s chair. Naturally, the two gravitated toward each other, and to this day their...

Stephen King’s short story “The Mangler” really shouldn’t work as well as it does. The fifth tale in his first collection, Night Shift, follows an industrial laundry press that somehow becomes possessed by a demon and begins flattening laundry workers like king-sized sheets. First published in a 1972 issue of Cavalier, the story contains the kind of grisly gore and fast scares that would keep readers turning the pages even when running alongside ads for edible panties and sex hotlines. With a gory premise and loose occult references, “The Mangler” may not be the most high-brow story King has ever published, but it is 19 pages of sheer horror perfection. Part urban legend, part splatterpunk lite, the story reads like a procedural cop drama from hell as Detective John Hunton (Ted Levine in the film) tries to stop a series of grisly deaths at the hands (er… gears) of a sinister machine.

Stephen King isn’t just an author by this point: He’s an institution, a legacy of classic horror stories that capture our imaginations, fuel our nightmares, and speak — when he’s at his best — to our shared experiences as flawed, emotional beings. The best King stories scare so many of us that we all feel connected, and even the worst are usually pretty fun.
King’s books and short stories quickly became hit movies, many of them celebrated in their time, and some flopped so hard that hardly anybody remembers them. Cataloguing every adaptation might be a fool’s errand, so we made some tough choices and decided to focus only on his theatrical releases.
And even then, there are so many King adaptations that it gets tricky. We’re not including the made-for-tv films (which are legion), and the sequels to King’s work rarely have anything to do with the source material,...

Stars: Matt Whelan, Luciane Buchanan, Zara Nausbaum, Ascia Maybury | Written and Directed by Scott Walker
Set in 1978, The Tank opens with Ben getting some news about his deceased mother. It appears his father left her coastal property in Hobbit’s Bay Oregon that she never told anyone about. He also finds out that rather than dying in a car accident, his father and sister drowned in said bay. Of course, you or I know better than to go near something like that because it never ends well. Ben, of course, packs up his wife Jules and their daughter Reia (Zara Nausbaum; The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith) and goes to check it out.
Writer/director Scott Walker does throw a switch at viewers by having the house actually look like it’s been abandoned for decades. Boarded up, weathered, and overgrown with vines and other vegetation on the outside,...

It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.
Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! It’s just that, outside of the library titles, there isn’t much to go off of.
Hulu’s only major original release this month is the FX on Hulu production American Horror Stories on July 15. As its name implies, the show is a spinoff of American Horror Story and will feature self-contained horror episodes rather than a season-long arc. If you’ll allow this geriatric millennial to deploy one truly ancient meme: “Yo dawg,...

A new year means a new start. But in its list of new year releases for January 2021, Hulu is sending a message of…eh, we’ll get the year started in February. Not to be overly rude to the usually sturdy streaming service, but there’s not much going on for Hulu in 2021’s first month.
Perhaps the biggest release of note is something that already enjoyed a successful release for ITV in the U.K. The Sister is the lates thriller from Neil Cross (Luther) and it makes its U.S. debut on Hulu on Jan. 22. 2020 comedies Save Yourselves and Like a Boss both arrive on Jan. 1. Hulu original film The Ultimate Playlist of Noise premieres on Jan. 15 and TV series Everyone is Doing Great arrives on Jan. 13.

Hulu is kicking off the new year in style next month, with January set to deliver a ton of fresh titles to the Disney-owned streaming service. There’s a bunch of original content landing throughout the first few weeks of 2021, but probably the highlight is the incredible number of classic movies that are going up on the site on New Year’s Day. Whether you’re in the mood for iconic comedies, dramas, animated efforts or sci-fi flicks, there’s something for you on the way.
There are well over 100 films being added to Hulu’s library on January 1st, so let’s just pick out a few notable titles. The full Austin Powers trilogy is among them, and if you can’t get enough of Mike Myers, the first Shrek likewise becomes available. For dramas, there’s Robert Downey Jr. biopic Chaplin, Johnny Depp vehicle Donnie Brasco and Jim Carrey’s The Truman Show.

Oscar and Emmy nominated actor Brad Dourif is set to reprise his role as the voice of the titular murderous doll in the forthcoming Syfy and USA Network series Chucky.
Dourif originated the voice of the character in the original 1988 Child’s Play movie and its six sequels, which are all part of the Chucky-verse. The impact of Coronavirus left little doubt the annual slate of festivals that kept every type of cinema across metropolitan Melbourne engaged would be severely impacted this year. Thankfully we adapt, and as streaming, and the proliferation of media available, grows exponentially, a crisis opportunity affords bold decisions, such as attempting to capture a festival aesthetic-at-home, complete with post-film intellectual exercises. It could never replace the epic scope of Melbourne city's wintry cinematic experience, but with expectations clearly in the title, Miff 68-and-a-half aims to provide viewers with a curated, albeit curtailed festival of international film. Immediately noticable is the dearth of both Asian and Graveyard Shift fare, but with world premieres and online events, there is plenty to enrich what could be just another...

Beneath the veneer of his country-rock stylings, the early work of Steve Earle is shot through with moving descriptions of working-class life. His stirring debut album from 1986, Guitar Town, is haunted by characters hopelessly mired in small-town and rural America, barely scraping by in landscapes that are as bleak spiritually as they are impoverished. On the title track, Earle writes about his own life, with a deft nod to Hank Williams: “Nothin’ ever happened ‘round my hometown/And I ain’t the kind to just hang around/But I heard...

January’s home media releases are ending on a high note, as there are a bunch of great titles headed to Blu-ray and DVD this week. My very favorite film of 2019, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite is making its debut on both formats, and if you missed it in theaters last year, Terminator: Dark Fate is hitting multiple formats as well.
For those of you who dig totally bananapants filmmaking, Tammy and the T-Rex is being released this week courtesy of Vinegar Syndrome. Vs is also keeping busy with Berserker, Beyond the Door 3, and Unmasked Part 25, and Scream Factory is bringing home Body Parts, Let’s Scare Jessica to Death, as well as a Steelbook Edition of The Slumber Party Massacre, too.
Arrow Video has put together a special edition release of Edge of the Axe, and the Warner Archive Collection is showing some love to the criminally underseen Two on a Guillotine.

Horror fans are definitely going to want to take a look at this list. AMC’s FearFest is right around the corner now and features plenty of heart-racing movies for viewers to sink their teeth into as Halloween nears. Going on its 23rd straight year, the channel’s annual spooky marathon promises to scare the you-know-what out of anyone brave enough to watch the 19 consecutive days of bone-chilling programming.
This year boasts 104 eerie flicks, including well-known classics and some under-the-radar gems. FearFest is set to begin on Sunday, October 13th at 10:00am Et, though AMC wants everyone to know that “horror fans don’t even have to wait that long, as you’ll also be able to watch even more movies on amc.com and the AMC Apps for mobile and devices all month long.”
Here’s a list of the films that will be available to stream starting...

The work of Stephen King has a long history of making its way to the big screen with wildly different results. Some land Academy Awards (“Misery”) or become classics (“The Shawshank Redemption”) while others disappear into the film ether But when great material merges with a wonderful adaptation, the result can be a $91 million dollar opening weekend, as was the case with “It: Chapter Two.”
Every adaptation comes with its challenges and even with two movies, you can’t fit all of King’s 1,138 pages onto the big screen. Screenwriter Gary Dauberman, who co-wrote the first chapter and also penned all the of “Annabelle” films, was faced with a dream job that could have become a nightmare: how to update the characters of King’s lovable “Losers Club” for the big screen. We spoke to him about the differences between book and movie, and the things that got lost along the way.

Motionless In White are still enjoying the amazing success of their latest album release “Graveyard Shift” which soared to the top of the Hard Rock Album charts and was one of the most highly anticipated rock albums when it was released in 2017. Stephen King films can be a mixed bag. For every really good film adaptation (Carrie; The Shining; Misery) there’s a bad one (Maximum Overdrive; Graveyard Shift; The Dark Tower). There are also a whole slew of Stephen King films that fall somewhere in the middle. I think Children of the Corn is one of the films that falls squarely in the middle of the pack.
There are some real strengths in the film. It has some genuine star quality, with soon-to-be action star Linda Hamilton (The Terminator) and TV heartthrob Peter Horton (Thirtysomething) starring as married couple Burt and Vicky, who become stranded in a town filled only with murderous, brainwashed children. The children are led by Isaac (John Franklin), who has a direct connection with an evil entity the children worship called He Who Walks Behind the Rows, and Malachai (Courtney Gains), Isaac’s mean-spirited enforcer.

The fifth Stephen King adaptation since the Summer comes to Netflix Friday. Attendees at the Screamfest horror film festival in Hollywood got an early peek at 1922. Star Thomas Jane joined writer/director Zak Hilditch for a Q&A following the film. Jane plays Wilfred James, a man confessing his crimes alone in a hotel room. Back in 1922, he conspired to murder his wife (Molly Parker) to keep her from leaving him and selling her share of the farm. With vast cornfields (Children of the Corn), rats (Graveyard Shift) and murder (every Stephen King story), 1922 seemed like a goldmine to...read more...

With the popularity of Stephen King exploding right now, Looper has released a video that breaks down what they feel are the 10 worst and 10 best films that have been adapted from his work.
I personally don't agree with the lists that they've put together. For example, they put Dreamcatcher and Needful Things on the list of worst movies, which is ridiculous because those are two of my favorites! On top of that, they don't even include Pet Cemetary on the Best list, but they have Dolores Claiborne. This list was made before Geralds Game was released, but I'd definitely but that on the best list as well.
I understand that these lists are a personal opinion, so watch the video breakdown below and let us know what you would change on the list!

With the upcoming release of The Dark Tower and It: Part 1 - The Loser’s Club, we look back at the successes and failures of previous Stephen King film adaptations.
Stephen King published his first novel in 1974. That novel, Carrie, would go on to sell more than a million copies in its first year of publication. The popularity of this book resulted in a movie adaptation two years later. As Stephen King released more novels, his popularity as an author grew, and many more films, miniseries, TV shows, and graphic novels came to be based on his writings. Today, King is one of the most well known and successful modern writers. Although he has written in many genres (including contributions to comic books), he is best known for his horror writings.
58 films have been released so far that have been based at least in some part on the writings of Stephen King.

Our revisiting of the screen adapations of Stephen King's work arrives at Graveyard Shift...
The film: An abandoned textile mill has been re-opened, but is infested with rats and has a basement full of junk that needs clearing out. Tempting a group with double pay, foreman Warwick (Stephen Macht), pronounced 'War-Wick' by everyone in the film, gets them to start cleaning out the basement. Newcomer and seemingly professional drifter John (David Andrews) is part of the group that discovers rats may not be the only thing infesting the tunnels beneath the mill.

Things started off so well on Chicago Med Season 2 Episode 14.
Well, for the audience anyway. A massive pileup and a shortage of both personnel and supplies sucked for the residents of #OneChicago. Unfortunately for everyone, things went downhill from there.
Don't get me wrong, there was a lot to love about "Cold Front." Getting the docs out into the city and working on scene was excellent. The cases were connected and strong. But then the entire Ed team seemed to suffer from collective stupidity.
Excuse me while I vent; I'll get to raving about everything that was great in just a minute.
In a blizzard situation, with a mass casualty event, I'm pretty sure you don't have to be Smarter Than A Fifth Grader to immediately start setting up a blood drive. I mean, these people all have had medical training, right?

If you ask any medical professional, they’ll likely tell you that strange things tend to happen on the night shift. Of course there’s the standard injuries caused by nothing short of foolish behavior, but occasionally there are curveball cases you can’t make up. That is, unless you’re a television writer who ventures into the strange and unexpected. Something about the night also opens up many emotional doors for people. This is how many of the Chicago Med doctors come out of this particular graveyard shift with a better understanding of themselves. You can’t really recognize what’s strange until you compare

At least one person ended up having a good day on Chicago Med Season 2 Episode 10.
Meghan may have gotten her heart, but everybody else's day pretty much sucked. Maggie got temporarily replace, Charles and Connor had a patient let them down, Natalie got publicly chewed out, Jeff got dumped, and Sarah got no sleep.
Natalie's starting to get good at standing up for herself, even if she isn't getting any better at picking love interests. Maybe she should start looking outside of the hospital?
I don't want to give credence to anything that smarmy close-talker Dr. Stohl said, but dating a med student, even one you've had a previous personal relationship with, was not a smart move. Awkward enough to be dating your student, but now you have to go and teach your ex on a daily basis? Awkward.

Fancy some terrific Stephen King horror short stories to read? Here are some recommendations...
Stephen King is a master of the short story, able to dish out horror tales to make your skin crawl, astounding sci-fi, and even literary reflections aimed at more "sophisticated" readers. He's done it all, with no sign of stopping.
Although I've had the tough task of picking 15 of my favorite King horror tales for this list, you should absolutely pick up All of his collections and give them a read through. You'll always find something to give you the chills.
Make a note: this is a list of short stories, not novellas. And on top of that, stories that are genuinely scary. I didn't forget "The Mist" or "N." or "Secret Window, Secret Garden" or any of those other goodies. Those deserve their own article, don't they?

Stephen King adaptations are very hard to pull off successfully. For every Misery, there’s a Graveyard Shift; Carrie soars while Cujo stalls. The small screen has had it just as bad—the elephantine The Stand benefits from its four-night rollout, while no amount of time could save The Tommyknockers. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg—at last count, there were 91 King adaptations (I’ll need to double-check those figures) across all media. For this blurry-eyed cathode ray kid, however, nothing has yet to match the two-part graveyard dance known as Salem’s Lot (1979).
Originally airing on CBS on Saturday November 17th and 24th, Salem’s Lot was a huge success for the network; there was even talk of turning it into a weekly series. Alas, that never came to be. However, we were gifted with 183 minutes of measured, chilling suspense and terror helmed by none other...

Is Cell -- which hits limited theaters this weekend after debuting on VOD formats June 10 and suffering numerous release-date delays -- the worst Stephen King adaptation of all time? It’s impossible to definitively answer to that question! Still, based on the film’s bleak 0% Rotten Tomatoes score, it’s very possibly one of the worst, and given the competition, that's something. A couple of caveats: 1. Cell was presumably not screened for many (if any) critics, given the low number of reviews listed on Rotten Tomatoes (20 as of this writing). Films tend to benefit from a greater number of reviews given that they offer a broader spectrum of opinions, some of which are bound to be less discerning. 2. A Rotten Tomatoes score of 0% doesn’t mean a film was universally given ”F”/"zero star" reviews; it means that every review tabulated was “net negative.” A more accurate representation of the...

Nightmare Fuel, your weekly dose of horror here at HitFix, is back with another episode featuring Ashlee Blackwell, who offered such great insights last week I decided to bring her back for another round. For those not in the know, Ashlee is the founder of Graveyard Shift Sisters, a blog that's focused on "purging the black female horror fan from the margins," according to the site's official Twitter. Ashlee and I had a lot to talk about this week! For one, that visually lavish first trailer for Nicholas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon, a "supermodel horror" film starring Elle Fanning that boasts some definite Suspiria under(over?)tones. Also on tap: The Mist TV series ordered by Spike (which opened up a conversation about the 2007 film version's divisive ending, which Ashlee liked far better than I), the latest sequels in the Underworld and Resident Evil franchises (which horror series got the sequel thing right?...

Good day, horror fanatics! Are you hardcore enough to survive another Nightmare Fuel episode? This week we are bringing it to you straight, no chaser, with Graveyard Shift Sisters founder Ashlee Blackwell, a writer and genre aficionado who has made it her mission to "Purge the Black Female Horror Fan From The Margins," according to her official Twitter. I love all of this. Hey guess what, horror has a diversity problem. Can you believe it? Though men and women of color make up a significant portion of the genre's fanbase, they are severely underrepresented both on-and-off-screen, not only in Hollywood but within horror fandom itself. Are you shocked? Appalled? Let Ashlee show you the way, she is fighting the good fight. While we're on the subject of diversity, guess who wasn't included on the cover of the new Ghostbusters Blu-ray? Not Bill Murray! This week I go in depth with...

Here are 16 of the very best horror stories from Stephen King!
Stephen King is a master of the short story, able to dish out horror tales to make your skin crawl, astounding sci-fi, and even literary reflections aimed at more "sophisticated" readers. He's done it all, with no sign of stopping.
Although I've had the tough task of picking 16 of my favorite King horror tales for this list, you should absolutely pick up All of his collections and give them a read through.
So below: a list of stories and what...

When most people think about the combination of Black folks and horror films they think of the stereotypical “first to die” trope (one that is too true), and then depending on your generation, ‘Candyman,’ ‘Blacula,’ or even the TV series ‘True Blood.’ Though a shift is occurring through the continual work of the ladies on the Graveyard Shift Sisters website, initial thoughts certainly do not bend to Black people actually working to make horror films. But then you’d be wrong there too. ‘The Dark Rite’ is a supernatural thriller by director Richard LeMay (‘Naked As We Came’) about a family of witches who descend upon a small town. In the vein...
