There is something to appreciate when horror deviates from the typical slice and dice. Sometimes it involves demonic possessions (Exorcist), blood-thirsty sharks (Jaws), killer dolls (Child’s Play) or even a shape-shifting organism (The Thing). The horror genre has constantly evolved over-time but today we’re going to go totally left field and have a matchup for the ages between the originator and the emulator. One that involves the book of the dead and deadites while the other brings blood-hungry demons, mystical daggers, and roundhouse loving magicians. Yes, it’s all there with plenty to chew on, and there are no qualms about it, well sort of. We have in our Horror Movie Rip-off ring, 1990’s Demon Wind directed by Charles Philip Moore (get it Here) and 1987’s Evil Dead II directed by Sam Raimi (get that one Here). Did Demon Wind rip a page right out of Evil Dead’s Necronomicon for their own,...

At its most basic, possession horror exploits the primal fear of losing control over your own person, usually due to a demonic entity. Victims in a possession movie are rendered mere passengers in their bodies as a sinister force takes over and destroys them from the inside. That potent combination of body horror and a complete lack of free will makes for inherently terrifying and fertile ground for exploration. While possession horror is often tied to biblical battles of good versus evil, that’s not always the case.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to demonic possession horror titles that leave conventional depictions of faith and exorcisms behind for new terrain and metaphors.
Here’s where you can stream them this week.

Demon Wind – AMC+, Shudder, Tubi
Possession horror tends to take the possession seriously, opting for full-throttle scares and intense emotional or faith-related stakes.

Despite the decline in theatrical horror releases during the 1990s, the direct-to-video side of the genre was still thriving. So much so that something like Jeff Burr’s Night of the Scarecrow understandably slipped through the cracks after its unnoticed home-video premiere in ‘96. Even aficionados of this regularly dismissed decade of horror might not be aware of the movie’s existence. Nevertheless, longtime fans still consider this to be one of the more notable offerings of scarecrow horror.
It’s not hard to figure out why Night of the Scarecrow got so lost in the shuffle of ‘90s Dtv horror. Jeff Burr claimed only around 12,000 units were shipped back in the bygone days of video shops. Yet, if you came across this movie’s alluring box art in the horror aisle, you couldn’t be blamed for wanting to take a closer look. The alternative artwork — the titular, sickle-wielding villain...

It's especially important to stay connected virtually and safely pass the time doing the things we love these days, and for horror fans, that might mean embracing the comforting fictional scares on screen to forget the real-life scares outside our windows.
On this episode of Daily Dead's official podcast, co-hosts Scott Drebit, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James have a "quarantine catch-up" to discuss what they've been up to in the weeks of social distancing. Listen as the co-hosts discuss the horror movies they've watched (such as The Curse of the Werewolf and Demon Wind), the video games they've played (including Doom and Until Dawn), and the TV series they've enjoyed (ranging from Westworld to Star Trek: Discovery) from the safety of their homes.
So, whether you've been quarantining with loved ones, social distancing alone, or working on the frontlines of the pandemic, we hope you can share in our love...

Tonight, Joe Bob Briggs returns for the Season 2 premiere of The Last Drive-In on Shudder. With so many horror fans staying inside these days, this is the perfect time for the return of the series, and Joe Bob talks special guests, world premieres, and more in our recent interview:
How do you feel about the success that The Last Drive-In has had since it first premiered, and the positive reaction on social media and from people you’ve met at recent conventions?
Joe Bob Briggs: Well, I'm amazed. The good vibes just keep on coming, and more and more people are joining our little group. So I'm very happy with everything that's going on with the show. I'm still not sure exactly why we're so popular because we're using the format that I've used twice before, going back to the ’80s. I think there's a desire for community right now.

Happy Friday, everyone! With the weekend upon us, I thought for this edition of “From Streams to Screams,” I’d put together a real mind-bender of a list for you, where all 29 films dabble in some form of WTFery. Whether its delivering up full-blown cinematic chaos, or characters (and/or the movies themselves) going completely off the rails, and even a few stories that will leaving you scratching your head at the end, without a doubt, these bizarrely entertaining but utterly charming films will keep your mind warped for years to come.
Society (Available on Shudder & Amazon Prime)
Bill is worried that he is "different" from his sister and parents. They mix with other "upper class" people, while Bill is more down to earth. Even his girlfriend seems a bit odd. All is revealed when Bill returns home to find a party in full swing. Not for the weak of stomach.

Before this week, I pushed no “Must See” Demon Wind agenda. As of three days ago, I hadn’t even indulged this not-often-discussed cult discovery. That’s until essential horror streaming resource Shudder added Charles Philip Moore’s 1990 “How did this get made?” case study to their already blushing catalog. My interest was tickled with a confirmation […]

Vinegar Syndrome had another stellar year in 2017, marking nearly five years of madness on film with a raft of bizarre and fascinating releases from the '70s right on through 1990. This week we're looking at a trio of films from exploitation legend Roberta Findlay in A Woman's Torment, Prime Evil, and Lurkers, a classic from low-budget warrior Ted V. Mikels in The Corpse Grinders, a '70s exploitationer in Trip with the Teacher, and a pair of straight up nutso horror films in Blood Beat and Demon Wind. All six of these releases definitely deserve a spot in your collection, but click through the gallery below for more details....

I'm no stranger to unintentionally funny horror movies. Search eBay for the Thai poster of your favorite 70's/80's/90's sci-fi/horror/fantasy movie and prepare to have your brain handed to you by some of the most amazing hand-painted rainbow-colored movie poster fantasy collage artwork you have ever seen!! I'll probably post some of my favorite recent finds of Thai posters for more well known international films another day, but for now here are a few mystery posters I found for unidentified Asian horror/fantasy films. The first one almost looks like a Thai poster for Demon Wind (1990)? And check out the mystery Dracula, Frankenstein and Werewolf posters. Can anyone read Thai?...

Ah the 80's. I learned many things during that decade. I learned to love horror and all its little sub-genres. I learned who Freddy, Jason, Leatherface and Pinhead were. I also learned about Critters, Puppets, The Last House on the Left and movies that claimed to be "Banned in 45 countries!". There's one lesson that was more important than all the others though and that was "Please be kind and rewind"...
Who didn't learn that little phrase in the 80's. I'm pretty sure it was stamped on the back of the most important card in my Spider-man wallet. My video rental card. If you grew up in the 80's, like a good portion of the horror fans I know, this was a badge you carried proudly. We didn't have the internet, we couldn't download anything and we weren't old enough to get into our favorites at the theatre. That didn't stop the true diehard fan.
