That “Kids” tab on that you get before the welcome screen on your Netflix is about to get more use as they are adding six new series for your kids and some of us adults to watch.
Film success seems to be the contributing factor for some of these series as they are continuations from those films. But some of these are just great series and continuing them is kind of a no brainer.
DreamWorks Trolls: The Beat Goes On!
A 344-million-dollar profit at the box office will see Trolls continuing with a new series. With that if you’re expecting Justin Timberlake, Ana Kendrick, or anyone else returning from the movie think again. Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect 1 and 2) and Amanda Leighton (This Is Us, The Fosters) will be filling the roles of Branch and Poppy with original songs written by Alana Da Fonseca (Pitch Perfect 3). Although I...

Netflix and Dreamworks Animation have announced that they have a new slate of animated series projects in development that are set to launch next year. One of the most exciting projects that came with the announcement includes a revival of the classic 80s series She-Ra: Princess of Power!
I hope that the series turns out to be good. I think it's something that my girls are going to love. I'm sure most of you are familiar with She-Ra, but if not, she is also known as Princess Adora and is the twin sister of Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man. She was kidnapped as a baby by the Horde's leader Hordak. She is eventually given the Sword of Protection, which parallels He-Man's Sword of Power, gaining the power to transform into She-Ra.
The series is being developed by showrunner Noelle Stevenson, who is the Eisner-winning co-creator of Lumberjanes. Here’s...

Netflix has given a series order to an updated version of the 1980s animated action series She-Ra, the streaming video service announced Tuesday.
Children of the ’80s will remember She-Ra as the alter ego of Princess Adora, He-Man’s twin sister, who leads a rebellion to free the planet of Etheria from tyrannical rule.

Pier Paolo Pasolini depicted Italian urban life in all its beauty and brutality. Does a new English language version of The Street Kids, by Elena Ferrante’s acclaimed translator, do his work justice?
Pier Paolo Pasolini’s love affair with the city of Rome began in 1950, when he was in his late 20s. He had come there from Casarsa, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, after a scandal involving three boys in the small town of Ramuscello. His adored, and adoring, mother Susanna was, as always, with him. He lived for a year or so with a family named Castaldi at Piazza Costaguti while Susanna worked as a live-in maid for another family called Pediconi a few doors away.
During those first paradisiacal months he befriended Alberto Moravia, Giorgio Bassani (who published one of his poems, an impassioned farewell to Friuli, in Friulian dialect, in the literary journal Botteghe Oscure, which...

Although I was barely ten years-old, I remember feeling terrified while watching horror master Wes Craven’s 1978 made-for-tv thriller Summer of Fear (under its alternate title Stranger in Our House) as well as thoroughly enjoying his adaptation of the comic book Swamp Thing four years later, but it wasn’t until November of 1984, while viewing the trailer for some new horror flick called A Nightmare on Elm Street, that I recall hearing and remembering the name Wes Craven. After being thrilled by this masterpiece which, in my opinion, is Craven’s greatest work, I certainly wanted to learn more about this extremely talented filmmaker. After doing a bit of research, I quickly discovered that I had already seen Craven’s original and very interesting Deadly Blessing (1981) and, also, his other masterpiece (in my opinion): 1977’s The Hills Have Eyes. Whenever someone mentions Wes Craven, I immediately think of Nightmare and Hills,...

Recently, Sound on Sight was given the opportunity to ask comic writer Cavan Scott a few questions about his upcoming Ninth Doctor comic series with Titan Comics. Cavan Scott is the co-author of the bestselling book Doctor Who: Who-Ology as well as the Titan series Penguins of Madagascar.
Tori Michel for Sound on Sight: Obviously from your website, you’re a massive Whovian. Who is your favorite Doctor? Companion? Villain?
Cavan Scott: Favourite Doctor? Well, that has to be the Doctor of my childhood – Tom Baker! Favourite Companion? Too difficult to choose – I’m very fond of Sarah Jane (who isn’t?) but Romana,Tegan, Ace and Martha feature high on my list as well. Oh, and of course, K9! Favourite Villain? Well, there’s the Daleks, but I’m a big fan of the Zygons… and the Master. So, a Zygon pretending to be the Master and working with the Daleks,...

Aardman, Jason Statham, Whizzer And Chips, Wall-e and more, as we talk Shaun The Sheep with its directors...
A new Aardman movie is always something of a treat. And today, Shaun The Sheep: The Movie lands in UK cinemas. It's just the fourth stop motion feature the company has made since 2000's Chicken Run, and what's more, there's barely a word of dialogue in this one. We got to chat with its directors, Richard Starzak and Mark Burton, about what on earth they were up to.
And here's how it went...
I'm a long-time fan of Aardman stuff. Not just for the craft side - I think at the heart of the best of Aardman is very, very strong storytelling. Here, you've given yourself a sizeable challenge by telling a story without dialogue. Can you take us through that, and give us an idea of how that makes the screenplay itself look?...

Well it’s the last week before we’re all up to our ears in comic book TV shows. Next week is the beginning of “The Flash” and the return of “Arrow” to television, but this week, “Gotham” and “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” got in one more episode before the competition starts. Here’s what you missed if you didn’t catch them. Gotham (1.02, Selina Kyle) Our return to the most corrupt city on Earth shows how bad things are, even without costumed crime. Street kids just trying to survive are disappearing and nobody seems to care except for lone good cop Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) who has a hard time trying to convince both his partner Bullock (Donal Logue) and his Captain that there’s something going on. And even after it’s proven that something is wrong, the mayor himself doesn’t really seem to care what happens to...

“A Tropical Sunday,” one of 12 finalists in TheWrap‘s 2014 ShortList Film Festival, reflects a very grim reality: Not every child grows up in a loving home. In the case of the characters in Argentinian director Fabián Ribezzo's short film (above), their home is often the streets — an environment which inspired him to write and direct a tale about four Mozambican children struggling to enjoy carnival attractions that more privileged kids in their village ride with ease. Watch TheWrap's ShortList Film Festival Finalists and Vote For Your Favorites “Street kids are visible, they have occupied the public space and they share.

Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy is a four-hour documentary film that chronicles the entire Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, as well as chronicling the rise of New Line Cinema.
Co-directed by Daniel Farrands and Andrew Kasch, it presents the kinds of in-depth yet light-hearted gems fans care about, not the paint-by-numbers stuff your average studio-produced Blu-ray extra disc typically regurgitates. It was made by genre fans who approach it from a place of love, but more importantly by filmmakers who understand that nothing is precious and nothing is off-limits. Heather Langenkamp, who played the ultimate final girl Nancy Thompson in three of the Nightmare films, serves as executive producer and narrator.
In exploring the Elm Street saga, the film presents photographs, storyboards, conceptual art, publicity materials, archival documents, and behind-the-scenes footage that have never been previously shared. it expands on Wes Craven's motivations in creating the first...

In 1984 Wes Craven gave us A Nightmare on Elm Street and a horror classic was born. Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) would haunt children in their dreams for many sequels to come turning indie studio New Line Cinema into the “house that Freddy built”.
As a kid, there was nothing more exciting than going to the movie store on weekends. The “Videorama” in our town was my family’s place – 5 movies for $5, yes sir! Leave it to my parents to ignore rating systems and good judgement, because their kids were horror fans. A Nightmare on Elm Street was my favorite, I would rent the series continuously knowing that I would have to wait for Sunday morning to come around so there was sunlight to protect me.
I would have nightmares and that somehow didn’t deter me from horror movies. I checked out Friday the 13th and Halloween, and sure Jason and Myers had their qualities,...

The Rings Of Akhaten
It's not hanging around, this latest batch of Doctor Who episodes. Back when Clara talked about the leaf in her book last week, it can't just have been us that wondered if it was one of those things that tended to get dropped into Doctor Who, only not to take on massive importance until many weeks down the line.
The answer? No it wasn't. It's something that took on importance just one episode later. The mystery of the leaf barely lasted a few minutes of The Rings Of Akhaten, as Luther writer Neil Cross' maiden Doctor Who adventure (at least the first to be screened!) started off by filling in some more of Clara's backstory,...

Let me introduce you to the 'Final Guy'.
So we all pretty much know the basic slasher film tropes that earn a horror character the 'final girl' title, right? For those of you at the back who fell asleep during your last film theory lesson; it's pretty much as it sounds – the last character left after the dust, blood and all kinds of unspeakable carnage has finally settled. She's the one that demonstrates exceptional perseverance in the face of abject terror and most importantly, the one who subdues the maniac once and for all -or until the next sequel at least. This character just so happens to be a girl because that was the gender of choice for those wonderful folk who decided their main hero (or victim) when writing for this ostensibly male dominated genre.
How about we focus on someone a little more under-appreciated by the horror audiences and theorists – the 'final' guy.

One of the great things about growing up in the late 80’s/early 90’s was that the majority of the well known horror franchises were all at their absolute peak in popularity, which meant that sequels to some of the most famous movie maniacs were always in production and always inevitable. Part of the fun of these flicks getting churned out at such an alarmingly fast rate was that in order to start promoting the next entry of a series in a timely fashion, studios would create teaser trailers with footage never intended for the actual movie. Just something quick and cool to whet the insatiable appetite of horror fanatics. So what follows are 10 of our all time favorite horror franchise teaser trailers. Do you remember any of the following?
A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) – At this point, Freddy Krueger was on the cusp of becoming a phenomenon.

In Defence of the Reboot is a weekly column delving into the murky world of adaptations, reimaginings and inter-media storytelling. Oh, and terrible, terrible remakes.
If you’ve read a superhero comic from the Big Two publishers (that’s Marvel & DC for those not in the know) in the last, let’s say 20 years or so, the odds are pretty good that story’s been told before. Same hero, same villain, same orphan kid in trouble, same outcome. The setting might be different and the telling hopefully is – that’s the important bit, so it damn well better be – but when you’ve got 50+ years of continuous storytelling in a single (main, I hasten to add) universe with the same characters…well, you’re bound to hear the same joke more than once.
Comics have always been a weird one, perception-wise, in my experience. See, I didn’t grow up with comics,...

In the upcoming action comedy Tower Heist, Alan Alda plays a corrupt Wall Street investor who is placed under house arrest after swindling people out of billions of dollars. Of all the big long-running horror franchises, Nightmare On Elm Street is perhaps the most interesting. Created in 1984 by Wes Craven, the original film and its iconic razor gloved child murderer Freddy Krueger went on to become New Line Cinema‘s biggest cash cow – quickly turning into an unstoppably popular series of films that ran throughout the ‘80s and into the early ‘90s.
While fellow franchises like Halloween and Friday The 13th revelled in repetitive stalk and slash scenarios, the Elm Street films- while just as inconsistent in quality – made frequent attempts to keep things inventive and unique. Freddy himself also changed over the course of the seven films, transforming into an ‘80s icon, known more for his wicked sense of humour than the fact that he‘s a child killer.
Now fans can now enjoy the original seven films of the franchise, in high-definition for...

After killing off all the Elm Street kids, Freddy sets his sights on another group of high school kids. However, he may have met his match in one teenage girl who is a dream master.
The best entry in this wildly successful franchise continues to do what the series did best, but toke things to another level. Robert Englund is showcased perfectly as a modern day anti-hero with memorable one liners and an array of funny wisecracks. Freddy gets to dispatch of the characters in a series of highly inventive death sequences. The special effects & set pieces are some of the most creative of any film, period! There's lots of trendy 80's music playing in the background. And, of course, the cast is very appealing. There is a wide variety of characters...

Freddy continues stalking the dreams of the Elm Street kids after they have been put in a mental asylum.
Sure, this entry has some of the most amazing special effects ever. The set pieces are some of the most creative that the horror genre has ever seen! There's even a few gag appearances that are truly funny. And Robert Englund turns in the performance of a lifetime spewing out hilarious wisecracks one after another. This is the entry where Robert was really able to cut loose and just go for it. In the process, Robert Englund took Freddy Krueger from being a hit horror villain to an icon, a worldwide phenomena. However, what really gives it that extra something, is the characterizations and the fact that it was...

The fashion designer's outburst is just one example of a growing casual antisemitism
It's interesting that John Galliano could just have got away with his antisemitic ravings, some caught on video in a Paris bar, had it not been for Jewish actress Natalie Portman.
Nicole Kidman and Sharon Stone still wore Dior to the Oscars. It was Portman, the "face" of Dior perfumes, who wore Rodarte. It was Portman who immediately stated she was "shocked and disgusted" and "would not be associated with Mr Galliano". She added: "I hope these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful."
"The opposite of all that is beautiful" – a melodramatic, very actressy statement? Perhaps it was de trop considering this isn't the Middle Eastern conflict, darling, just a sloshed fashion designer, slurring vilely, but also fashion enfant terrible-style, about...

When a film is remade, it is impossible not to compare it to the original; unless you have not seen the original. The basic premise for both movies is that the parents of the Elm Street kids kill a child murder to make him pay for his crime. Then he returns to haunt their children in dreams and pay for their sin. Looking at the original A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984),there is a stronger storyline with more supernatural elements. The dreams scenes had a foggy appearance that you would expect to see and sometimes we could hear the childlike cries of lambs. The...

“One, two … another remake’s coming for you. Three, four … it made Morrow snore. Five, six … it entertained Nick. Seven, eight … filled Morrow with hate. Nine, ten … Nick would see it again.”
Hello He’s and She’s, it’s time for another episode of He Said – She Said … and this time we slash it up with the new remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street. In one corner we have Morrow “I’m Being Bored To Death!” McLaughlin, and in the other corner we have Nick “Wee!” Allen trying to figure out just how enjoyable a remake of a classic horror movie really is.
As always, we recommend that you see the movie before reading on, as spoilers and the like are totally in fair territory. Jeff Bayer gave the movie a 4/10, and you can read his review here. Game on!

New Line Cinema’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, is a contemporary re-imagining of the seminal horror classic, starring Academy Award® nominee Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, and directed by award-winning music video and commercial director Samuel Bayer, marking his feature film directorial debut.
So far we’ve had the UK teaser poster, and the quad poster, and now New Line bring us this rather cool motion poster – if any film suited a motion poster it’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, just so we can see Freddy gloves in action!
A talented ensemble of young actors play the teenagers now taking on Freddy Krueger, led by Rooney Mara (Urban Legend: Bloody Mary) as Nancy, Kyle Gallner (The Haunting in Connecticut) as Quentin, Katie Cassidy (Taken, TV’s Supernatural) as Kris, Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) as Jesse, and Kellan Lutz (Twilight, The Twilight Saga: New Moon) as Dean.

We’re only a couple of weeks away from the UK premiere of Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, we’ve already unveiled the UK teaser poster for the film, and now comes the UK quad poster, with the accompanying Full synopsis courtesy of the films production notes:
Nancy, Kris, Quentin, Jesse and Dean all live on Elm Street. At night, they’re all having the same dream—of the same man, wearing a tattered red and green striped sweater, a beaten fedora half-concealing a disfigured face and a gardener’s glove with knives for fingers. And they’re all hearing the same frightening voice…
One by one, he terrorizes them within the curved walls of their dreams, where the rules are his, and the only way out is to wake up.
But when one of their number dies a violent death, they soon realize that what...

British comics have not been well served in their Hollywood adaptations. Transatlantic transitions from page to screen result in either being too faithful, as Zack Synder’s Watchmen arguably was, or too loose with the essence of the source material, resulting in a genre bound snooze fest – Judge Dredd please stand up (and don’t remove your helmet!).
While the golden age of American comics have lit up the screen in this last decade, with visionary directors taking the basic elements of these iconic characters to their own conclusions, British comics have not garnered such attention. Nolan’s Batman, Raimi’s Spiderman and the Supermen of Donner and Singer have their own unique identity; the depth of the mythology of these superheroes allows numerous interpretations, and some of the most interesting re-imaginings of our own myths and legends have occurred on the screen as well as on the page.

U.K. sales, finance and production house F&Me is looking to kick up a different set of dancing heels with "Street Kids United," a feature documentary about Street Child World Cup soccer tournament in 2010.
Veteran documentary maker Tim Pritchard will helm the F&Me-produced picture, which explores how a simple sporting event can change lives and raise the hopes of a group of British and African street kids as they prepare for the Street World Cup, and move on to the tournament.
"The intention in 'Street Kids United' is to capture the intoxication and anticipation of the 'real' World Cup as it approaches just a couple of months later," Pritchard said. "South Africa will be under the spotlight for the 'real' World Cup and the authorities will try to present the best image it can for the eyes of the world. Will this mean the police...

For anyone who doesn't happen to follow limb-dismembering, mechanized-torture horror films, the fact that the sixth entry in the Saw series is being released this weekend will seem unremarkable in just about every way. For decades now, gruesome new horror movies have arrived at the multiplex with big fat roman numerals stuck at the end of their titles. Only the most fanatical droolers of the "horror community" are even still counting. I mean, really, who would seriously bother to keep track of how many interchangeably cruddy Friday the 13th sequels there are? Or how many times Freddy Krueger ever came...
