Determining Ben Stiller's best role is no easy task, as the prolific performer has more than a few borderline iconic characters to his name. Tony Perkis in "Heavyweights," Mr. Furious in "Mystery Men," White Goodman in "Dodgeball," Chas Tenenbaum in "The Royal Tenenbaums," Tugg Speedman in "Tropic Thunder," the titular Derek "Zoolander," and Ted Stroehmann in "There's Something About Mary" are all characters that feel synonymous with Stiller, and roles that no one else but him could pull off. And then there's Greg Focker in "Meet the Parents," a role Stiller has played in three different films, the lovable everyman who can't seem to impress his overbearing father-in-law Jack Byrnes (Robert De Niro). For as much as Stiller has made a name for himself with distinctive characters like Hal the Orderly Guy in "Happy Gilmore," his genuine charm allowed him to flourish in relatable roles, with Greg arguably the best example of this.

Criticism is nothing new to Christopher Nolan. The acclaimed director has endured criticism from some critics who have labeled his films as “cold” or lacking in emotional depth. However, the 53-year-old London-born director, who has received Oscar nominations for Best Original Screenplay for both Inception & Memento (co-written with his brother), earned some scorn for his 2014 epic sci-fi flick Interstellar.
In response to criticism that his work is too cerebral and emotionally detached, Nolan seemed to make a bold move with the casting choices he made for Interstellar. In what way?
The narrative of the movie originated from a “very personal place”. He and his brother, Jonathan Nolan, wrote the screenplay together. The former explained why the original Interstellar script by his brother called for Murph to be a boy, but the Dunkirk director chose to make her a girl instead.

Although Max Greenfield's "New Girl" character, Schmidt, has just one daughter (named after Ruth Bader Ginsburg!), in real life, the actor shares two kids with his wife, Tess Sanchez Greenfield, who works as a casting director. The duo got married in 2008 and have since welcomed a daughter, Lilly, and a son, Ozzie. Tess frequently shares photos of their squad on social media, and Max has taken to TikTok quite a few times to share sweet videos with his kids (including a deeply iconic dance with Lilly to Olivia Rodrigo's "Get Him Back").
Max and Tess opened up about their family during a September 2021 interview with Parents magazine. Max revealed that he didn't feel ready to be a dad when Tess got pregnant with Lilly, joking, "You're a psychopath if you're about to have your first child and you're like, 'I'm ready for this!' But after Lilly, I knew I wanted a second.

Actor whose television character Pee-wee Herman delighted children and their parents in the 1980s
One of the most subversive and original figures in 1980s popular culture was a whey-faced, cherry-lipped, matchstick-thin child-man who wore a red bow tie, white tasselled loafers and a shrunken grey suit, and lived in a giant playhouse with sentient furniture and a floating head. This was Pee-wee Herman, created and played by the actor Paul Reubens, who has died aged 70 of cancer.
The character appeared on stage in The Pee-wee Herman Show during the early 1980s but did not become known internationally until the release of the film Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985), which marked the doolally debut of the director Tim Burton. US cinema in the Reagan era drew heavily on the iconography of the 50s and early 60s, whether for purposes sweet or unsavoury; this big-screen outing for Pee-wee, who was already suffused with the...

Tina Turner’s son, Ike Turner Jr., was arrested for possession of crack cocaine and tampering with evidence weeks before Tina’s death.
Ike was pulled over on May 6 at 12:09 a.m. at a traffic light in his white Ford Fusion when officers noticed that one of the lights – either the headlight or taillight – was broken. When officers approached his car, Ike attempted to consume all of the narcotics that were in his possession.
The captain of the Alvin Police Department stated that Ike, “tried to eat the drugs before the officers could seize them from him.”
Police seized almost two grams of crack cocaine and .7 grams of methamphetamine from him.
Ike was with Jessica Salinas-Esquivel in the car when he was pulled over. Officers arrested her too, and she is now being charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Cannibalism has emerged as the genre du jour in horror. With the success of last year’s Fresh and Bones and All as well as the second season of Yellowjackets finally digging into the human flesh, everyone seems to be exploring this taboo topic. From nightmare survival scenarios to narcissistic serial killers, these films follow humans or humanoid monsters who consume human flesh in one way or another. Some butcher and cook the meat, while others eat it from the bone, but all cannibal films offer a window into a world of depravity and a fascinating blend of horror and revulsion. We not only fear being eaten ourselves, but we often find ourselves imagining what the meat would taste like should we dare (or be forced) to take a bite.
Films about cannibals may seem like a rare delicacy, but a closer look reveals that the pickens are not so slim.

The fear of seemingly harmless strangers that’s heightened during our era of online “relationships” (not to mention Covid) is cannily exploited in actor-turned-writer-director Christian Tafdrup’s “Speak No Evil.” Building on the thorny couple dynamics of his prior features “Parents” and “A Horrible Woman,” this excruciatingly.
Tafdrup’s squirm-inducing tale is premiering in Sundance’s Midnight section, and should find ready berth among genre fans, with strong potential for remake bids. (Distribution rights have already been secured by horror streaming service Shudder.) At the same time, its all-too-palpable cruelty will repel some viewers, in the same way such prior atypical horrors as the original “Wolf Creek” and both editions of “Funny Games” did.
A grim final destination is all the more upsetting because the over-the-top melodrama of Sune Kolst’s orchestral score, applied straightaway to a simple opening shot of a car driving down a road at night, suggests...

Variety has been given exclusive access to the trailer (below) for Danish horror film “Speak No Evil,” which has its world premiere at Sundance. Sales are being handled by TrustNordisk.
The film follows a Danish family on vacation in Tuscany, where they befriend a Dutch family. Months later the Danish couple receive an invitation to visit the Dutch and decide to go for the weekend. However, it doesn’t take long before the joy of reunion is replaced by misunderstandings. Things gradually get out of hand, as the Dutch turn out to be something different than what they have pretended to be.
The film was directed by Christian Tafdrup, and written by Christian Tafdrup and Mads Tafdrup.
Christian Tafdrup describes “Speak No Evil” as a satirical horror movie. “Satirical, because it revolves around ordinary people’s absurdly recognizable ways of behaving. A horror movie, because the film is dark, evil and willingly foul.

Half Billion Dollar Haul for ‘Battle at Lake Changjin’ as Patriotic Holiday Propels China Box Office
Cinema box office in China hit RMB4.2 billion ($651 million) over the seven-day National Holiday period, according to government sources on Friday.
By far the top title was “The Battle at Lake Changjin,” which had grossed RMB3.50 billion ($543 million) by 5pm local time on Friday, its ninth day of release. In second place over the holiday period was “My Country, My Parents” with RMB1,08 billion ($167 million).
Like “Battle,” “Parents” was released on Sept. 30, a day before the Oct. 1 festivities which celebrate the establishment of the People’s Republic of China, and kick off a prolonged official holiday, also known as ‘Golden Week.’
The total is 5% short of the RMB4.4 billion recorded in 2019, the last year before the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the global film industry. Including the weekend preceding the 2019 official holiday, the ten-day total in 2019 was RMB5 billion.
A key difference is that 2019 benefited from the release of three blockbusters – “My People, My Country,...

Gossip Girl is one of the latest reboots to hit the air, and while the first half of Gossip Girl (2021) Season 1 had its moments, the series has struggled to maintain decent quality.
With the show off the air until November, it's time to look at the show to see how it could improve in the second half of the season.
Check out our list below.
Get Rid of the Teachers
The weakest aspect of the show is the teachers. They need to go.
Making Gossip Girl the teachers might have sounded interesting in the writer's room, but every single time one of the teachers comes on-screen, I want to turn it off.
Kate is the worst. She'll undoubtedly embrace a more villainous persona at some point when the account stops getting as much attention.
Her actions are horrible, and the fact she wants to turn the account into a brand is bizarre.

Comedy in the 80s was definitely different than it is now, or so we’re told by those who keep saying that certain movies couldn’t be made these days. But the parents from 80s comedies were a different breed as well since they were those that had grown up in an era that was completely different from what a lot of us know today and had that kind of experience to work with or against. In many comedy movies from the 80s, the type of humor is now seen as offensive and not at all funny, but to those of us

The third season of Netflix’s “Master of None” will premiere on May 23 and be subtitled “Moments in Love,” following Lena Waithe’s character Denise and her partner Alicia, who is played by Naomi Ackie.
“Let’s say we’re at a party, Maxwell’s playing, you don’t know me, I don’t know you, and I ask you out on a date. Would you say yes?” Waithe’s Denise posits in the trailer for the new season.
As seen in the trailer, which you can watch below, the couple is living together in a countryside house and going through the ups and downs of marriage. In one scene they are sharing a bath, in another they are slow dancing, but in another they are fighting in their bedroom. The season will explore struggles with fertility and personal growth for characters, both together and apart, while also asking existential questions about love and life.

In trying to explain the man and phenomenon that is Tekashi 6ix9ine, Showtime’s new docuseries does its best to embody him.
“Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine,” directed by Karam Gill, alternates between self-consciously shaggy found footage and slick, stylized interludes. Like its subject, “Supervillain” depends on social media to build itself up. It stitches together years of Instagram videos to paint its portrait of a man who deliberately transformed himself into rap’s most chaotic antagonist, with his rise reflected in his ballooning follower numbers. It interviews people from his inner circle, observers of his increasingly hyperbolic life and, sporadically, Tekashi 6x9ine himself in audio clips from the suburban safehouse he’s most recently called home. Throughout its three episodes — titled “Identity,” “Power” and “Truth” — the series interrupts itself for flashy stop motion explainers in which narrator Giancarlo Esposito breaks down the crucial elements that make a true supervillain,...

ABC has given a script commitment with penalty to Happy For You, a single-camera family comedy from former Single Parents writers-producers Taylor Cox and Kim Rosenstock and 20th Television where Rosenstock is under an overall deal.
Written by Cox, in Happy For You, when the youngest of three sisters announces she’s getting married first, it sends her older, unmarried sisters — and their newly separated mother — into an existential tailspin. Happy For You follows this family of midwestern women as they confront their own failed love lives, plan a wedding, and try not to take their feelings out on the flower arrangements.
Rosenstock is supervising and executive producing. 20th TV is the studio.
Cox and Rosenstock met while working on ABC sitcom Single Parents (Cox as writer-producer and Rosenstock as writer-co-executive producer). The series recently wrapped its second and final season. Cox’s other credits include producer on Abby’s.
