Blind drifter and Vietnam veteran Nick Parker (Rutger Hauer) arrives in Miami to visit his old friend Frank Deveraux (Terry O'Quinn), whom Parker had served with in the Vietnam war. Nick learns from Frank's ex wife Lynn (Meg Foster) that Frank now lives in Reno. But, in a senseless moment two corrupt cops and a thug called Slag (Randall "Tex" Cobb) arrive and attempt to kidnap Frank and Lynn's son Billy (Brandon Call). Slag shoots and kills Lynn, but Nick manages to kill the two corrupt cops with his cane, which is also a sword and Slag escapes. Realizing Billy's life is in danger, Nick decides to take Billy with him to Reno, to Frank. But, Slag and other thugs are soon in relentless pursuit. In Reno, Nick learns from Frank's girlfriend Annie Winchester (Lisa Blount) that Slag works for illegal casino owner MacCready (Noble Willingham) whom is holding Frank captive and is forcing him to make a designer drug and MacCready intends to hold Billy hostage, as insurance and threatens to kill him, if Frank doesn't cooperate. With his deadly skills with a sword which he learnt from Vietnamese villagers that nursed him back to health, when he was blinded by a mortar explosion. Nick sets out to rescue Frank and engages MacCready, a hired Japanese assassin/swordsman (Sho Kosugi) and other of MacCready's thugs in a deadly showdown and Frank also sets out to forgive Frank for what happened to him in Vietnam and move on with his life.
