NBC is once again taking viewers on a journey through time. The network debuted the first trailer for Quantum Leap on Sept. 8, and much like the beloved '90s television show, the continuation looks to be filled to the brim with action. In the trailer, we meet physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee), who's suddenly found himself in the year 1985—and in someone else's body. But before he can even attempt to understand what's happening, he realizes that he's in the body of a getaway driver for a group of robbers who are now running toward him as a bank's alarm sounds. Thankfully for Ben, the robbers aren't alone. With them is Addison Augustine...

“It’s very much a sequel, not a reboot,” says Caitlin Bassett, who is one of the stars of NBC‘s Quantum Leap sequel to the beloved series that ran on the network from 1989 to 1993 and starred Scott Bakula. The actress, who plays Addison Augustine, one of the members of the contemporary Quantum Leap team, adds while this is a new take, “there’s definitely going to be a lot of Easter eggs and some character tie-ins from the original, which is very exciting.” Bassett and her co-stars Raymond Lee and Ernie Hudson sat down with TV Guide Magazine‘s Jim Halterman for the Returning Favorites cover story, which is in stores now. (Credit: Serguei Bachlakov/NBC) In the series, it’s quantum physicist Ben Song (Lee) who finds himself jumping into strangers’ bodies in various timelines in his lifetime. But, just as he’s celebrating his engagement to Addison,...

"Ben knew that the technology wasn't ready." NBC's Peacock is launching a 2022 update on the classic time travel sci-fi series known as Quantum Leap. Some of you may remember the original. Created by Donald P. Bellisario, the original show ran from 1985 until 1993. Set 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett stepped into the Quantum Leap accelerator and vanished, this 2022 update follows a new team that must restart the project hoping to understand the mysteries behind the machine and its creator. Raymond Lee stars in the lead role as Dr. Ben Seong, who that ends up traveling back in time through the Quantum Leap project. Ernie Hudson co-stars as Herbert "Magic" Williams who runs the highly confidential operation along with Ian Wright (Mason Alexander Park) and Jenn Chou (Nanrisa Lee). In the original, Scott Bakula stars as the scientist who ends up taking over the bodies of other people (in different time...

NBC's new Quantum Leap has a legacy of adventurous heroism and well-intentioned shenanigans to live up to as the continuation of the 1990s hit series starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell.
Premiering on Monday, September 19, it stars Raymond Lee as the time-traveling physicist, Dr. Ben Song, who takes his machine for a spin and loses his memory and himself in the past.
This time around, there's no cigar-chomping Al to crack jokes and give advice to the wandering doctor.
Caitlin Bassett, as Addison Augustine, plays the hologram guide and provides exposition to both Ben and the audience.
"Your name is Dr. Ben Song. You're from the year 2022. You're the lead physicist on a top-secret project called Quantum Leap. You're a time traveler."
A far cry from the gruff and world-weary Al, Addison has more than a working relationship with Ben, a fact that Leap amnesia has wiped from his memory.

A new trailer was released with the new lead, Raymond Lee taking over Dr. Sam Beckett's (Bakula) job - traveling back in time to another person's body to help them. It took nearly three decades, but fans of one classic cult series can finally look at 2022 as “Leap year.” NBC has hit the refresh button and brought back Quantum Leap, the wildly inventive and beloved time-travel drama that aired 97 endlessly engaging episodes from 1989 to 1993. The new sequel series is a unique kind of returning favorite, tweaking the original concept while maintaining its signature humor, hope, history, and heart — and holding fast to a continuity with its past. Given that the show will compete on a big-budget TV landscape luring viewers to Middle-earth and Westeros this fall, executive producer Martin Gero (Blindspot) believes it’s vital to court Leap’s devoted fanbase. “Just the announcement that we were maybe doing this trended on Twitter immediately,” he says. (Credit: Ron Batzdorff/NBC) The Lure of the Leap It’s no surprise, given the crazy joy and drama of the Donald P. Bellisario–created original series,...

Of all the potential time travel destinations, smack dab in the middle of an intense military operation probably doesn't rank too high. However, that's exactly where physicist Ben Song (Raymond Lee) lands in E! News' exclusive teaser of NBC's upcoming Quantum Leap continuation. More specifically, it's 1991 and he's in Kuwait on the precipices of what would come to be known as Operation Desert Storm. Aboard a plane with dozens of soldiers decked out in combat gear, Ben is understandably taken aback by his sudden surroundings, but the shock only grows when he realizes that he, too, is equipped for battle and they're all preparing to jump out of the plane. When...

Multiverse storytelling is nothing new, but it sure seems like it's having a moment. Several wildly popular movies and television shows have featured multiverses in the past few years, with even more due to hit theaters soon. Whether it's the animated antics of "Into the Spider-Verse," the heartfelt wackiness of Daniels Kwan and Scheinert, or the Marvel mayhem of "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness," there's more than enough multiverse media to go around. But why now? What inspired this incredible influx of dimension-hopping fun, and will it slow down anytime soon?
Given that the concept behind multiverses is ancient — think Greek philosophers chatting in a salon — it's hard to imagine we'll see an end to multiverses in the movies. When reality becomes too much to bear, the idea of an alternate universe is ridiculously comforting, so there's no surprise that we have so many of these stories now.

NBC is considering handing over its 10 p.m. primetime programming hour to local stations, Variety has confirmed.
Insiders say that this conversation has happened multiple times over the past 10 years, and emphasize this is not the first time the option of ceding time to affiliates has been discussed at the broadcaster. Instead, this is just the most recent in ongoing explorations and it could lead to no changes at all.
Additionally, sources say NBCU is not mulling this as a cost-cutting move that would lead to less programming, but one that might be made to best utilize the broadcast brand and relationship with affiliates vs. its streaming and cable options.
It’s important to note that new speculation surrounding a 10 p.m. hour change, which comes just ahead of NBC launching its fall lineup Sept. 19, does not impact any new and returning series airing during that time period, at least for now.

NBC, as we know it, could soon be over.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the broadcast network may stop programming the 10–11 pm hour, meaning there would be seven fewer hours per week of NBC shows.
The network currently airs Law & Order: Organized Crime, New Amsterdam, Quantum Leap, and Chicago P.D. in the 10 pm slot.
News of such a move would eliminate the need for as many shows, meaning the network could potentially say goodbye to some of its well-watched series.
This would also put a spanner in the works for the all-One Chicago Wednesdays and all-Law & Order universe Thursdays.
Such a move would undoubtedly change the trajectory of broadcast TV.
It would mean less competition for CBS and ABC, which might be a good thing for those networks, unless they also consider making such a drastic move.

The current state of streaming is a bit of a chaotic mess. You've got Netflix's stock plummeting in one sector and whatever the hell is happening with HBO Max in the wake of the Discovery merger as they purge beloved shows left and right in another. Streaming on the whole seems to be in a transitional period as audiences can't possibly keep up with all the different streamers available, and we face a new era of paying cable prices for the shows and movies we want to watch.
Universal's streaming service, Peacock, has made some moves lately to fine-tune what its service provides users. Beginning Sept. 19, NBC and Bravo programming will be available for next-day streaming on Peacock following their linear debuts. This marks a dramatic shift in the streaming industry as NBC and Bravo titles have previously been made available for next-day viewing via Hulu.
“We are excited to provide Peacock customers with a comprehensive destination for streaming the incredible programming airing on NBC and Bravo all year long,” said Kelly Campbell, NBCUniversal president of Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer.
NBCUniversal parent company Comcast owns a 33 ownership stake in Hulu, with The Walt Disney Company controlling the rest. As part of an agreement between the two companies, Disney will buy out Comcast’s share of Hulu for a minimum of 5.8 billion by January 2024. NBCU had previously announced that it would be reclaiming its content from Hulu for Peacock earlier this year.

Sony Pictures hopes audiences are all aboard for Bullet Train, David Leitch’s action comedy starring Brad Pitt, Sandra Bullock and Brian Tyree Henry that hits theaters Aug. 5.
Trains have a history of transfixing Hollywood, dating back to 19th century silent-film footage of the vehicle that was so realistic, it reportedly caused audiences to flee in fear. But one project that didn’t captivate viewers as expected was the NBC drama series Supertrain.
Launched in February 1979 with stars Edward Andrews and Robert Alda, the show centered on a luxurious, nuclear-powered train and followed in the footsteps of ABC’s popular Love Boat by focusing on passengers’ personal lives — which involved murder, abduction, mystery and romance — amid the cross-country voyage. Understandably for a show called The Sandman, much of Netflix‘s series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic is concerned with the journey of Lord of Dreams, himself. And yet, both Gaiman’s comic and Netflix’s show still have six other members of “The Endless” to portray.
Among the most interesting of The Sandman’s “siblings” is Desire, played by Mason Alexander Park. Desire is the third youngest of The Endless and the twin of Despair (naturally). Androgynous, beautiful, and cruel, Desire is perhaps the toughest Endless to fully comprehend. Why does the heart want what the heart wants? It’s up to Gaiman, Netflix, and ultimately Park to figure that out.

Quantum Leap will likely have a lot of eyes on it when it premieres on NBC in September, but this latest update on the reboot has us a little concerned.
Martin Gero, best known for creating Blindspot, has been elevated to showrunner on the buzzy drama series.
Gero, who had been serving as an EP, will take over from departing co-showrunners Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt.
While the pair will no longer be handling the day-to-day running of the new show, they will remain on board as executive producers.
Deadline reported the news, which comes after production has been completed on just three episodes (including the pilot).
No definite reason has been given, but the outlet states that there has been "chatter about scripts being late."
With the series fast approaching its September 19 series debut, it will be on a tight production schedule, and any hiccups could derail the planned premiere.

NBC’s “Quantum Leap” reboot executive producer Martin Gero has stepped up as showrunner, taking over for Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt, and Dean Georgaris has joined as executive producer, TheWrap has learned.
The new version of the 1990s sci-fi series will star Raymond Lee of AMC’s “Kevin Can F**k Himself” as Dr. Ben Seong, whose team restarts the Quantum Leap accelerator 30 years after Dr. Sam Beckett (Scott Bakula) disappeared.

Lilien and Wynbrandt will remain with the project as executive producers after writing the pilot. Both Gero (“Blindspot”) and Georgaris (“Bluff City Law”) have deals with Universal Television, the studio behind the “Quantum Leap” reboot.
This behind-the-scenes leadership change for the “La Brea” executive producers arrives after the series has filmed two episodes. Production will not pause.
Seong’s character has been described as a “spiritual successor” to Beckett.

In Act 4, Scene 1 of The Merchant of Venice by William Shakespeare, the heroine Portia, posing as a male lawyer, begs Shylock the moneylender to spare her love’s friend the “pound of flesh” that he is owed. Her speech goes:

It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven

It blesseth him that gives and him that takes.
‘Tis mightiest in the mightiest; it becomes
The thronèd monarch better than his crown.”

We’ll deal with the most controversial change first. The new Quantum Leap series will not begin each episode with the show’s star, Raymond Lee, looking into a mirror and saying, “Oh boy!”
“I think obviously the idea of him looking into a mirror and seeing another person’s reflection will be core to the show, and we’ll have those moments,” concedes writer and executive producer Steven Lilien. “I think the ‘Oh boy!’ was so specific to Sam Beckett, and I think we’re trying to carve out a new path for our character, Ben.”
The original Quantum Leap told the adventures of Dr. Sam Beckett after his time travel experiment leaves him jumping randomly through different times and different bodies. His adventures saw him play the roles of Lee Harvey Oswald, Elvis Presley, and on one memorable occasion, a chimp in the space program.

The hopes for the Scott Bakula-starring ranch drama Unbroken have been dashed as NBC is not moving forward with the series, according to TVLine. Bakula was set to star as retired rodeo champion and current rancher Ash Holleran in the Yellowstone-style drama. Created by Shaun Cassidy (New Amsterdam), the drama would revolve around three dynastic ranch families on the central coast of California, making love and war in a passionate struggle to survive. The story would see a group of fiercely determined young women aiming to win big at the National Championship of Rodeo. It is not yet known if the project will be shopped to other networks. However, we do know that NBC is moving forward with a reboot of Bakula’s popular sci-fi series Quantum Leap. ‘Found’ Drama Starring Shanola Hampton Gets NBC Order, Giving Nkechi Okoro Carroll 3rd On-Air Series
It’s official: NBC has picked up a second drama pilot to series for the 2022-23 season, the missing-persons Found, from All American‘s Nkechi Okoro Carroll, Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The pickup, which Deadline wrote about in yesterday’s Pilot Buzz, gives Carroll three series on broadcast TV next season: All American, on which she is an exec producer/showrunner; spinoff All American: Homecoming, which she created and serves as EP and co-showrunner on; and Found, on which she is creator, executive producer and showrunner. Found is expected to bring in a co-showrunner to work alongside Carroll as she juggle her shows.
Found, starring Shanola Hampton, was one of six NBC pilots for off-cycle consideration alongside fellow drama Unbroken and Blank Slate, which were in advanced stages of production during the May upfronts, The Irrational and Untitled Mike Daniels, as well as an untitled Mike O’Malley comedy pilot.

NBC has ordered the drama “Found” to series, Variety has learned. In addition, the network is passing on its pilots “Blank Slate” and “Unbroken.”
“Found” hails from writer and executive producer Nkechi Okoro Carroll with Shanola Hampton set for the lead role. The show is built around the fact that, in any given year, more than 600,000 people are reported missing in the U.S. More than half that number are people of color that the country seems to forget about. Public relations specialist Gabi Mosley (Hampton) — who was once herself one of those forgotten ones — and her crisis management team now make sure there is always someone looking out for the forgotten missing people. But unbeknownst to anyone, this everyday hero is hiding a chilling secret of her own.
The show also stars Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, Karan Oberoi, with Kelli Williams, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar.

It was an unusual ceremony, in which an Emmy rule change pitted series regulars against one-episode guest stars. In addition, two of the most awarded comedies of all time battled it out, a favorite drama lost the top spot and one of the most celebrated talk shows of all time finally received a top honor. This was also the last year that the Big Four networks received all the nominations for Best Drama Series and Best Comedy Series. We’re throwing it back three decades to August 30, 1992, when Tim Allen, Kirstie Alley and Dennis Miller hosted the 44th Primetime Emmy Awards on Fox. Read on for our Emmys flashback 30 years ago to 1992.
