Everett’s daughter tells the AP Everett had battled lung cancer for more than a year. He was 75. In a career that spanned more than 40 years, Everett is best known for his role as sensitive Dr. Joe Gannon in Medical Center. He appeared in all seven seasons of the show that at the time tied with Marcus Welby, M.D. for longest-running medical drama. The role earned him two Golden Globes and an Emmy nomination. He made his directorial debut in1982 with Sanjeev Kumar and Shabana Azmi starrer Suraag.
In the late 1980s and the 1990s, he directed thrillers like The Jigsaw Murders (1988), Halloween Night (1988), Night Eyes (1990), L.A. Goddess (1993), Sexual Malice (1994) and Tales of the Kama Sutra. He was based in Hollywood.
