Sex & Nudity

  • A few occasions of lovemaking are portrayed onscreen, though not pushed beyond kissing with anything further occurring offscreen.
  • One episode involves a main character reprogrammed to film a women's shower and screen it for an audience. No nudity is shown, though mild references to what occurs in the footage is mentioned.
  • There are frequent moderate and sometimes strong sexual references throughout the seasons.
  • Very rarely there is minor nudity, for example there is one episode where the main characters contract a virus which eats their clothes, and their bare buttocks are visible.

Violence & Gore

  • Frequently there is minor violence, but there is never anything extreme, usually done for comic effect. Occasionally there is fighting, blows to the head with objects, etc.
  • A feature of the series are weapons called "bazookoids", futuristic weapons similar to guns. However these are unrealistic and when characters are shot, it is done comically. Guns and knives are sometimes referenced more realistically. In the episode "Meltdown", World War II-style guns are used, but no human characters are killed.
  • There is a lot of threat of extreme violence.
  • No gore is ever shown visibly but sometimes it is implied. Minor amounts of blood are rarely shown, eg. in one episode a character's leg is broken and blood can be seen. In the same episode, a character hurts his arm and is seen stitching his own wound.

Profanity

  • No uses of fuck.
  • Many uses of "hell", "damn", "crap", "arse", etc.
  • Very rare uses of "bitch" and "bastard". One use of "twat" in one episode, and one very brief use of "shit" in one episode.
  • The fictional word "smeg" is used in place of extreme words to make the show more suitable for children, eg. "smeg head", "smegging hell", "for smeg's sake" etc.
  • Rude finger gestures are occasional.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Alcoholic drinks are comsumed regularly in the show, and its effects (vomiting, drunkenness, hangovers) are often shown.
  • Cigarettes (and occasionally cigars) are used a couple of times in earlier episodes.
  • Rarely there are mild references to more extreme drugs. In the episode "Stasis Leak", a theme is hallucinogenic mushrooms, and their effects are referenced in detail. They are never actually shown.
  • Viagra is referenced in one episode but never actually shown.
  • One episode includes "learning drugs", illegal drugs used to assist in learning used to cheat at exams. They are liquid and kept in cans, and one character is seen using them. This is not realistic.
  • Medicines are often used medically.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • One episode involving an attacking mutant lifeform on the ship portrays the creature more seriously and may frighten younger viewers.
  • One episode features a villain with time-altering capabilities who attempts to erase half of the crew from existence. He is portrayed with little comedic qualities, and is taken as a genuine threat.
  • Rated PG-13 for some sci-fi violence, suggestive material and crude humour throughout.
  • "Frightening" scenes are usually done in a comedic manner, with any terror being portrayed as humourous.
