A firearms enthusiast, Washburn is seen with an ASP (Armament Systems and Procedures), a very rare, custom-built handgun based on the Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 9mm. Designed in the late 1960's, and available from approximately 1970 to 1987, only a few hundred were completed by gunsmith Paris Theodore, using the S&W as a base gun. Revolutionary and imaginative, the ASP pistol had considerable influence on concealed carry handguns for many years. Smith & Wesson incorporated several features into the model 3913 and much later, the M&P Shield and Shield Plus.
