Just before the TV movie aired, a group of women who were actually held prisoner by the Japanese during World War II claimed the movie was unrealistic and did not portray what they endured.
The movie shows nurses walking in the Bataan death march but in reality no nurses took part in it.
This film's closing epilogue read: "Although it is a work of fiction and though no Army or Navy nurses participated in the actual Bataan death march, this film is representative of the collective courage and dedication of the American Forces who served in the Philippines."
This tele-movie's opening dedication stated: "This film is dedicated to the one hundred and four Army and Navy nurses who served in the Philippines during World War II, and especially to those who were incarcerated by the Japanese."
According to a review in the New York Times, this tele-movie was "designed as a tribute to the 104 courageous Army and Navy nurses who fell prisoner to the Japanese in the Philippines" during World War II.
