Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut Monkey Man leads the new films at this weekend’s UK-Ireland box office, starting in 592 cinemas through Universal.
Directed, produced, from a story by and starring Patel, Monkey Man follows an anonymous young man who unleashes a campaign of violence against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother, and continue to systematically victimise the poor and powerless.
Filmed in early 2021, Netflix originally bought worldwide rights to Monkey Man. After Jordan Peele boarded the title as producer through his Monkeypaw Productions, Universal acquired it from Netflix earlier this year. It debuted at SXSW last month.

Picketers gathered outside Warner Bros. in Burbank today found themselves buoyed by a unique presence: Flavor Flav. The hip-hop icon-turned-reality star showed up to cheers from the assembled WGA supporters.
Dressed in a festive yellow-and-blue track suit and wearing a demure (for him) red clock around his neck, the Public Enemy also brought a boombox and blasted the group’s classic “Fight the Power.”
Possibly even better, Flav brought a lot of food.
“A true spread of burgers and pizzas at Warner Bros courtesy of Flava Flav!” wrote Abbott Elementary writer-producer Brittani Nichols on Twitter above a photo of the rapper delivering at least a dozen boxes of grub.

Who else misses seeing live theater?
Whether it's a musical or a one-man play, there's always something magical about seeing a Broadway show.
When you can't go to the theater, you can make the theater come to you by streaming these Broadway shows.
Let's start with the biggest Broadway sensation in recent years -- Hamilton: An American Musical. Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical chronicle of the life of Alexander Hamilton aka "the ten-dollar founding father" is streaming on Disney+.
What's left to be said that hasn't already been said about this masterpiece. The story is captivating. The songs are so good you're glad they're not leaving your brain anytime soon.
Streaming provides the bonus of seeing the original Broadway cast perform.

It will come as no surprise to anyone who’s followed the career of director Mark Romanek that his newest work, “Loop,” the pilot episode for eight-episode Amazon Studios series “Tales From the Loop,” is as visually arresting as it is conceptually bold and emotionally evocative.
Best-known for his work on some of the past two decades’ most audacious and powerful music videos and commercials, Romanek has accrued multiple Grammy Awards for his clips for stars from Fiona Apple to Johnny Cash, Taylor Swift to Michael Jackson, Jay-Z to Joni Mitchell, Nine Inch Nails to Madonna. Prizes at Cannes Lions and more have come his way for innovative, emotive spots for Apple, Tiffany, Nike and American Express, among others.
Romanek’s feature film resume is shorter, but just as powerful, with Robin Williams-starrer “One Hour Photo” and his adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s “Never Let Me Go” both visionary...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Monday’s episode of “9-1-1.”)
The 118 is back and so are all their emergencies — both professional and personal. On Monday, Season 3 of Fox’s “9-1-1” returned from its long winter hiatus to find Howie/”Chimney” (Kenneth Choi) dealing with some very unexpected family drama, Michael (Rockmond Dunbar) making a controversial decision about his cancer treatment plans and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) finally moving on from her traumatic past with Doug (Brian Hallisay).
TheWrap broke down all these threads from the episode, titled “Seize the Day,” with “9-1-1” showrunner Tim Minear, starting with Chimney’s storyline, which focused on the appearance of his 20-year-old half-brother Albert on his doorstep. Given the fact that his parents split when he was young, Chimney doesn’t know his sibling at all. His father left Chimney to be raised by his mother in America and went back to South...

“9-1-1: Lone Star” ended its first season last week, making way for fans of the “9-1-1” spinoff series to turn their attention back to the Og show, which returns from hiatus with its midseason premiere Monday. And when the third season of “9-1-1” resumes, so will the problems facing the Station 118 crew, their friends and their family — with the biggest probably being the big tumor inside Michael’s (Rockmond Dunbar) brain.

Doomsdays is not another big budget, effects laden, apocalyptic blockbuster about the end of days. This is the exact opposite. Writer and director Eddie Mullins tells the story of two aimless squatters who wander from one lavish vacation home to another in the Catskills, breaking in and making themselves at home. Justin Rice plays Dirty Fred, the more cultured and outwardly intellectual of the two men. Leo Fitzpatrick plays Bruho, the less stable, paranoid loose cannon. Both men live life by their own rules, which for the most part, means there are no rules.
Dirty Fred and Bruho’s daily life goes on swimmingly, unencumbered by law or societal expectations for some time. They take what they need, do what they want, and generally cause havoc and mischief as necessary for their own amusement. One day, they meet Jaidon, played by Brian Charles Johnson. Jaidon is a husky runaway teenager with limited social skills,...

Hollywood’s impossibly handsome leading man-cum-conscience George Clooney modestly thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for keeping small films alive, in picking up the group’s Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes tonight.
“Big ones do fine; it’s the small ones that need the audience,” said Clooney, who’s known for his “one for them, one for me” approach to his career.
Leave it to Clooney to put the trophy show in perspective. “For the record, if you’re in this room you’ve caught the brass ring,” he told the crowd. “You get to do what you’ve always dreamed to do and be celebrated for it, and it ain’t losing.”
That said, Clooney noted that awards don’t really mean much in the long run. “I don’t remember how many awards Lauren Bacall won. I remember her saying, ‘Just put your lips together and blow.

Dec. 1: "Jingle Bells" Obviously we started with this song because it is so cliché. That's why we're publishing this the day after we picked it. Beyond one listen this holiday season, there's no reason to play "Jingle Bells...

In his life, Robin Williams followed his Dead Poets Society dictum: “Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary.”
From his greatest roles to his standup and TV appearances to his lesser known work, the late comedian played everyone from aliens to animated genies with tireless energy. Whether he was singing, dancing, sashaying, or pontificating, he always held your attention—regardless of whether he was delivering a fart joke or a rousing speech. Below, watch a tribute video that collects some of Williams’s greatest roles, best lines, and moments of brilliance.

Disney Theatrical's record-breaking and Tony Award winning phenomenon Newsies features a score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, choreography by Christopher Gattelli and a book by Harvey Fierstein. The stage version introduces seven brand-new songs by the original team of Menken and Feldman while keeping many of the beloved songs from the film, including ‘Carrying the Banner’, ‘Seize the Day,’ ‘King of New York’ and ‘Santa Fe.’ Set in New York City at the turn of the century, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged ‘newsies,’ who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack...

Bad news for the city's newsboy cap producers: According to the New York Times, Disney will shutter its hit Broadway musical Newsies this August after a two and a half–year run. The show was an unexpected success for Disney Theatrical, becoming the fastest-recouping show in the company's history and finding a breakout star in original lead actor Jeremy Jordan (Smash). While Disney did not provide a reason for the closure, a dip in ticket sales is likely a factor: The Times reports that "ticket sales have softened in a fairly typical way for a musical that, while popular, never became a blockbuster." Yet while Newsies will leave its home at the Nederlander Theatre on August 24th, it wont be your last chance to see Jack Kelly and Crutchie in action: The musical will be going on a 25-city North American tour launching in October. Seize the day, etc., etc.

What better way to start your week than with an a cappella Newsies medley? We have Brigham Young University's a cappella group Vocal Point -- in part -- to thank for the above video, which offers an impressive four-minute performance that features numerous songs from Disney's Newsies. The medley itself is well worth a listen, particularly for those who are fans of Newsies, but the video is especially impressive when we take into account that the whole thing was shot in one take. Directed and produced by Jeff Parkin, and shot at the Utah County Historic Courthouse, the video begins on the steps outside with "Seize the Day," before a cappella group Vocal Point and the dancers -- the video credits three Byu dance groups for their participation -- head inside to "King of New York." When the act moves upstairs, the song shifts to "Santa Fe." Then it's back...

On March 31, New York’s McC Theater held its raucous Miscast gala, an annual fundraiser honoring one veteran theater artist — this year, the fearless Allison Janney — with a concert program line-up that features Broadway stars performing songs typically sung by the opposite gender. Last year, you might remember Jeremy Jordan and Jonathan Groff stopping the show with Smash’s “Let Me Be Your Star.” This year was no different, but we’ll get to that. First, Janney.

After staring at my movie collection trying to come up with an article idea (secrets revealed), I noticed a lot of coming of age stories. Growing up in a 90 minutes or so movie is no easy feat and these movies often deal with confusing, heartbreaking and even exhilarating time in our lives. They make sense of all the motions of a kid, show guidance in one form or another; they depict turning points in our lives that are all too common and relatable.
The spring is here folks, it’s time to get outside on your bikes, head to summer camp, make new friends, find trouble, get out of a pickle or steal a first kiss. But if you’re like me and have grown up into a life of responsibilities, there’s always nostalgia.

Richard Curtis has so much to tell us about life. Seize the day! Show people you love them before it's too late! Don't let the right one get away! His movies — those he writes, directs, or both — are so packed with info-feeling that they become restless jumbles of exclamation points pantomimed by actors. Some still work like gangbusters (Four Weddings and a Funeral). Others are so gummed up with allegedly colorful types and their adorable romantic problems that they meld into a sort of rom-com mulch (Love Actually). But the thorny truth about Curtis is that no movie bearing his touch is terrible all the way through. To get to the parts that are un-terrible, you have to suffer through the most idiotic plot developments and ill-defined characters imaginable. See...

All you ever wanted to know about Bond – his earliest memory, his most treasured possession, his most unappealing habit. Don't miss William Boyd's interview with 007
James Bond was born in 1924. His father was Andrew Bond, a Scottish engineer who worked for the Vickers armament firm, and his mother, Monique, was Swiss, née Delacroix. Bond was initially educated abroad and became fluent in German and French. His parents, however, died in a tragic climbing accident when Bond was 11 years old. He was sent to Eton, and spent only two terms there before being expelled. The rest of his secondary education took place in Scotland, at Fettes College, Edinburgh, his father's old school. Bond left school at the age of 17 in 1941, and, lying about his age, joined a branch of what would become the Ministry of Defence. He ended the war with the rank of commander in the Special Branch of...

It's hard to believe "Newsies" has been around since 1992. Directed by choreographer Kenny Ortega (who you can also thank for the the "High School Musical" series), the film was a major box office flop, but later gained a cult following on home video. Now, it's been turned into a Broadway musical that has earned eight Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, winning Best Choreography and Best Original Score.

Oh hey, Duncan, from your favorite failed 1999 TV show "Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane." David was also in the movies "Just Married," "Honey" and "Vacancy 2: The First Cut." Fun fact: He was once engaged to Kerry Washington.

As reality TV-watching wasteoids, we’re using to dealing with annoying on-screen pop-up polls, aggressive hashtags (yes, even things in grey fonts at 75 percent opacity can be aggressive — it is the ’90s!), and promotional tie-ins. They’re so awful. Oh, how we suffer! But last night’s Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles offered up the most absurd and inconsequential — and therefore my favorite — real-time viewer poll of the summer, when squirmy real estate weasel Josh Flagg agreed to let an underling treat him to an Ihop breakfast.

You may recognize Tinsel Korey as Sam's scarred girlfriend Emily in the hit Twilight Saga franchise, but now fans have the chance to see her in a whole new light, and perhaps even on a stage in the next couple of months. Korey, who's absolutely wonderful to speak with and extremely talented, chatted with me recently about her music and upcoming release. Music has always been a passion for the talented actress, and now all of her hardwork has paid off with her very first Ep!
No bias needed, Korey's music is absolutely beautiful and my iTunes is ready to make some downloads. "Love Me Let You Go," "Break of Dawn" and "I Surrender" are just some of her songs that will leave a lasting impression.
Ology: New Ep comes out at the end of August! When did you know you wanted to get serious about singing?
