Mind Body Spirit may be the first horror film centred around yoga. No, not yoghurt, The Stuff did that decades ago, but yoga. Yes, there was Yoga Hosers, but that was about two yoga practitioners, not about yoga itself. And it was a comedy, which this very definitely isn’t.

If she’d read a few of my reviews, she would have known what a bad idea that was, though after seeing a video call between her and her mother Lenka (Anna Knigge) I can’t blame her for moving cross-country to become a yoga and fitness influencer, something her childhood friend Kenzi has been very successful at.

There’s a solid chance this month’s edition of “Revenge of the Remakes” ends up as one of my favorite column entries. George A. Romero’s The Crazies and Breck Eisner’s The Crazies inspire an exceptional case study about the peaceful coexistence between remakes and originals. Both filmmakers choose unique perspectives when dooming small-town America, even though the early 1970s and dawning 2010s validate eerily similar conspiracy paranoias. Stacking these Trixie-toxin thrillers back-to-back validates why remakes aren’t here to piss all over your safe, swaddling nostalgia blankets. Remakes aren’t the enemy — they’re a golden opportunity.
Romero’s The Crazies could only accomplish so much as a commentary against bureaucratic incompetence given the $270K budget. It benefits from a facelift, much like how Wes Craven’s The Hills Have Eyes reaches its full potential as a bloodthirsty 2000s revamp. That’s not a shot at legends...

Grammy-nominated global superstar Demi Lovato has released ‘Still Alive’, her new original song for the upcoming horror film Scream VI. The high energy track arrives alongside the aptly aesthetic music video. The visual sees the world of the film invade reality when Demi and her friends attend a private screening of Scream VI, only to find themselves being hunted by Ghostface himself.
Demi assumes the iconic role of “Final Girl” as she faces off with her assailant in the video’s final act. The video was directed by Jensen Noen and features cameos from Mike Shinoda and Spencer Charnas (Ice Nine Kills). The song was written by Lovato, Shinoda, and Laura Veltz. The video made its global broadcast premiere on MTV Live, Mtvu, MTV Biggest Pop and across MTV’s global network of channels, as well as on the Paramount Times Square billboards.

You'd think Halloween would be the holiday that the lion's share of holiday-themed horror movies would center around. But that would have to be Christmas, which has inspired the likes of classics such as "Black Christmas," "Silent Night, Deadly Night," "Gremlins," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," the incredible "Tales From The Crypt" segment "And All Through The House," and so many more.
Maybe it's because Christmas is supposed to represent the pinnacle of goodness and charity that mucking it all up with blood, guts, and terror is just too perverse to resist. But of all the other holidays on the calendar, Thanksgiving gets my vote for the most untapped potential, horror-wise. Pilgrims? Unseasoned food? Family coming to my house? Wake me up when the nightmare is over.
While there has been a solid assortment of Thanksgiving-themed shockers over the years, from "Kristy" to "Séance" to the delightfully campy "Into The Dark" film "Pilgrim,...

Demi Lovato got her cover shoot groove on as she stunned in a revealing ensemble not long after sharing that she has gone back to using she/her pronouns.
Posing for the cover of Galore magazine, Demi rocked large-holed fishnet stockings and a latex bodysuit that started at her hips and covered her entire front to culminate behind her in two latex wings.
A choker of black material circled her neck, traveling down her throat to meet up with the bust of her leotard-like bodice, some metallic links adorning the material for added effect.

The Gamescom 2022 opening night ceremony featured a surprising number of fascinating new game trailers. However, the show was arguably stolen by the surprising reveal of a multiplayer horror game based on an eternally underrated ’80s horror movie.
Yes, as surprising as it may sound, developer Teravision Games has somehow convinced Good Shepherd Entertainment to let them make a video game based on 1988’s Killer Klowns From Outer Space. Seriously, there’s a trailer for the game and everything.

The Klowns have access to a vareity of circus-themed sci-fi weaponry that should give them an immediate edge in most fights. The humans, meanwhile, enjoy an obvious numbers advantage as well as access to a number of class-based abilities and various pieces of weapons...

Singer-actress Demi Lovato has undergone yet another evolution for their eighth studio album, ‘Holy Fvck’, which was released on Friday. The Grammy-nominated artiste’s new record marks a stark shift in image and sound from their revelatory 2021 album “Dancing With the Devila The Art of Starting Over’, reports ‘Billboard’.
Led by the singles ‘Skin of My Teeth’, ‘Substance,’ and ’29,’ ‘Holy Fvck’ arrives approximately seven months after Demi first teased a ‘funeral’ for her pop music on Instagram.
While both ‘Skin’ and ‘Substance’ failed to crack the Billboard Hot 100, the songs made waves on the Hot Rock and Alternative Songs Chart where they peaked at No. 13 and No. 37, respectively.
Released as a promotional single just two days before the album’s release, ’29’ quickly resonated with fans across the world with its careful articulation of grooming in relationships.

For many, Demi Lovato was one of the first artists to openly use “they/them” pronouns and identify as non-binary. And Lovato’s decision to change her pronouns, after being hyper-feminized as a teen star on Disney Channel, catalyzed discussions about gender identity. Some of those conversations often diminished Lovato’s gender identity as the butt of a joke, complete with a blatant disdain for their fluidity.

At the start of “The Man Who Fell to Earth,” the character we come to know as Faraday (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is introduced as an extraterrestrial being, albeit one in humanoid form. In these early, dialogue-free scenes, the visuals propel the narrative by putting the audience in Faraday’s shoes. Extreme, close focus, widescreen close-ups capture in startling detail the disorientation Faraday feels. As Alex Kurtzman, co-creator of the Showtime series, aptly puts it, “He comes blinking into reality and is taking in absolutely every detail at a visual and aural level.”
The cinematography is as breathtakingly precise in how it captures Faraday’s arrival, but what is equally impressive about the series’ first three episodes is that director of photography Tommy Maddox-Upshaw brings this same exacting touch to completely different worlds and subjectivities. Like Faraday, the viewer is left piecing together the different threads, but we are always visually grounded by Maddox-Upshaw’s lens.

Happy Friday, everyone! This time last week, we celebrated the amazing independent horror films that were released throughout the 1970s, so it only makes sense that we shift our focus today to all the great indie genre movies and moviemakers that helped make the ’80s one of the most unforgettable decades in horror.
Much like the 1970s, we saw a handful of eventual Masters of Horror establish themselves as genre storytellers on the indie side of things throughout the ’80s. On the East Coast, we saw an explosion of creativity come out of New York City with filmmakers such as William Lustig, Frank Henenlotter, Larry Fessenden, and Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman making their feature debuts in the world of horror during the ’80s. And even though Troma Entertainment was founded in 1974, the company really came into its own during the 1980s as well. The indie studio founded by the aforementioned...

After all, its focus is laser-focused on horror films, from genre mainstays like Nosferatu (1922) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) to diamonds in the low-budgeted rough like Color Out of Space (2020) and The Stuff (1984). Over a week into my Halloween-themed marathon and I’ve only scratched the surface of what the service has to offer. And to be fair, these days there’s very little reason to go elsewhere for your horror fix. So consider this less a

Look, those of you who know me likely already know why I have an affinity for New World Pictures (hint: they’re responsible for a movie I think is really “swellraiser”). But I’ve always wondered what kind of film studio had the gumption to produce a movie at the height of the AIDS crisis that was directed by an openly gay man and revels in kink, incorporates copious amounts of blood, and dares us to indulge in our darker nature? It turns out that for a studio like New World Pictures, this tact was pretty much par for the course. New World’s history is all about taking chances, an approach that would ultimately lead to its downfall.
New World was founded by Roger Corman and his brother Gene in 1970. They distributed their first film, the biker flick Angels Die Hard, in June of that year, but their first...

"Get ready" for something new! Steamroller Studios has revealed their teaser trailer for an indie animation project called Master, now in the works from animator / filmmaker Jamaal Bradley. He's the same that made the outstanding animated short Substance a few years back, and is now developing this kick ass new project. "The goal is to showcase a powerful young lady who is strong in mind and body using the fantastic elements of animation." The story follows Olivia, a once promising martial arts champion endowed with superpowers, who is on a journey to get her family to what she believes is a better life. It's just a cool reveal teaser with one sequence, but it sets the tone and introduces us to Olivia, and it's a must watch first look. Have to wait to see how it develops and when it'll be ready for release - but I'm excited to see more already.

I do love a documentary. I love a horror documentary, too, and so when I signed up to Shudder I couldn’t resist a chance to check out In Search of Darkness. An epic, four hour and twenty minute long look at 80s horror films, this is a phenomenal film, a love-letter to the genre we love so dearly, the genre that has given us nightmares and excited us with blood and guts for our lifetimes.

Happy (Good) Friday, everyone! Even though time isn’t much of a construct these days, the weekend is officially here and if you’re like me, you’re looking for ways to entertain yourself at home during this whole pandemic mess. And with the economy being what it is right now, I know it’s helpful for many folks out there to save money wherever you can, so I thought I would dive into all the great films over at Tubi TV to compile a list of more than 50 different cult films you can currently stream for free.
Just a note: there are a lot of definitions of “cult film,” so I did my best to not include a bunch of titles that horror fans throw around ad nauseam here, and I even opened up my search parameters a bit to include horror, sci-fi, and genre-adjacent titles that I feel...

I don’t think it’s much of a secret that right now, there is a lot of uncertainty in the world, and I’m not sure how you’re feeling, but this writer could use a little levity in her life right about now. So, with that in mind, I decided to scour a bunch of the various streaming services out there—Vudu, Tubi TV, Amazon Prime, Shudder, Hulu, Netflix, Crackle and YouTube—to put together the ultimate list of “not so serious” horror and sci-fi movies (and one animated series!) that are currently available to watch from the comfort of your own home, as we hunker down and navigate these uncertain times.
Some of these services are free (usually with ads) and some are platforms that you need a subscription for, but with more than 70 different titles here that range from horror comedy to social satire to pitch-black...
