Over the last few years, Stop the Killer Games has brought us board games that were inspired by classic slasher movies like My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, and Silent Night, Deadly Night. Now they have a new slasher movie-inspired board coming our way this November – and the inspiration for this one is more modern than the movies that previously got the board game treatment. In fact, this one was just released last year! It’s Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving (read our review Here, check out our interview with Roth at This Link) and Thanksgiving: John Carver’s Carving Board Game is available for pre-order through the Stop the Killer website.
Designed by Roth and Jon Cohn, Thanksgiving: John Carver’s Carving Board Game has the following description: In this game based on Eli Roth’s hit film, players start by attending an in-store Black Friday sale that gets way out of hand,...

First it was a fake trailer. And then it became a real movie. Now, Eli Roth’s throwback slasher hit Thanksgiving is getting an official board game adaptation from Stop the Killer!
In Thanksgiving: John Carver’s Carving Board Game from Stop the Killer Games, players start by attending an in-store Black Friday sale that gets way out of hand, with people dying in horrific ways in every aisle. But things go from bad to worse because a killer wearing a John Carver mask is also on the loose murdering the townsfolk in droves…
Unlike the movie, you are rewarded for dying… A Lot! The player who dies the most is revealed to be John Carver, triggering a final battle between the rest of the players and Carver!
Who will win? And more importantly, will they be thankful for their victory?
Exclusively watch the official trailer for Thanksgiving: John...

For every horror movie that turns into a massively profitable hit, there are plenty more that didn't light up the box office. In fact, they continue to be made with such frequency in part because their budgets are usually low enough that it's pretty easy to recoup expenses with anything other than a total disaster. Still, there are plenty of times when horror films don't perform as well as expected. Sometimes they are reassessed years after release with much more favorable results, and the horror genre is rife with box office flops that became cult classics and underrated "masterpieces."
But then you've got the true, out and out stinkers. The films that couldn't even keep up the pretense of being merely a disappointment, and led their studios to pull them from theaters prematurely in an effort not to send good money after bad. Their downfall could have been a result of controversy,...

Between The Nun II, Sister Death, Consecration, the upcoming The First Omen, and the newly released Immaculate, starring Sydney Sweeney, it’s safe to say that nuns are having a moment in horror. So often, fear thrives in the unlit nooks of the unknown, and for many of us, that includes those who dedicate themselves to religious orders. Shrouded in intrigue and literal fabric, the combo of unwavering religious devotion and rejection of various worldly pleasures makes nuns ripe for genre exploration. While nuns are certainly trending, this is by no means the first time horror has blessed us with terrifying tales featuring such religious women.
In Häxan (1922), possessed nuns mingle with witches as director Benjamin Christensen explores the connection between mental health and mass hysteria. With movies like Alucarda (1975), Ms. 45 (1981), and St. Agatha (2018), the subgenre of nunsploitation comes into play to further explore themes of religious and sexual oppression.

Terry Levene, the schlock showman who as the head of Aquarius Releasing was behind such films as Bruce Lee Fights Back From the Grave and Doctor Butcher, Medical Deviate, has died. He was 90.
Levene died Jan. 13 surrounded by his family in Englewood, New Jersey, Severin Films executive Josh Johnson announced.
Operating out of an office above the Selwyn Theatre on West 42nd Street in New York, Levene creatively marketed low-budget American features including Isaac Hayes: Black Moses of Soul (1973) and Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984).
For grindhouses and drive-ins, the onetime amateur boxer rebranded Lucio Fulci’s supernatural horror film The Beyond (1981) as Seven Doors of Death (1985) and Umberto Lenzi’s Italian shocker Cannibal Ferox (1981) as Make Them Die Slowly (1983), promoting the gory latter as “The Most Violent Film Ever! Banned in 31 Countries!”

So, grab your favorite eggnog, light up the fireplace, and let’s count down the 10 best Christmas horror movies that Santa wouldn’t dare to watch!
Tri-Star Pictures 10. Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984)
Punish! Coming down the chimney at number ten, Silent Night, Deadly Night gives you a psycho Santa that makes Krampus look like a teddy bear. When little Billy witnesses his parents’ horrifying demise at the hands of a Santa-clad psycho, his mind checks off quite a different list. Cut to a few years later, and now Billy’s donning the red suit, but the only thing he’s delivering is a stocking full of slay.

Regardless of any perceived quality when it comes to individual entries, you have to hand it to the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise. It kicked off with a demented killer Santa story that created immense controversy, cementing it as a piece of hallowed horror history. Since then, it has produced a series of movies that each stand out for any number of memorable reasons (my personal favorite). You can certainly argue the successful and not-so-successful elements of a Silent Night, Deadly Night entry, but it’s tough to say any one of them is “normal.” They all offer such unique quirks and oddities that it’s hard not to find them attractive from the right angles.
And Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation is the weirdest one of the bunch and so much better for it.
As a franchise entry, we do need to establish some important context. Long story short,...

Four years before Silent Night, Deadly Night sparked a moral outcry — a movie which critic Gene Siskel called “contemptible” — another slasher used Santa Claus’ image for its own bloodthirsty story. However, To All a Goodnight managed to avoid all the hand-wringing from panicky parents and busybodies only due to the fact that most people didn’t even know this movie existed. Not much has changed whenever it’s mentioned today.
Had David Hess and Alex Rebar’s Santa slasher been granted a larger theatrical rollout back in 1980, perhaps it would have been the target of what many deem the greatest moral uproar in horror history. It’s no exaggeration to say there was an overreaction to Silent Night, Deadly Night; from the creation of advocacy groups to one psychologist fearing the movie would undo kids’ potty training, the hubbub surrounding Charles Sellier’s Christmasploitative slasher was unprecedented for the time.

5 Best Christmas Horror Movies(Photo Credit –IMDb)
When one thinks of Christmas, horror, and gore are generally not the first things that come to mind. Christmas is all about having fun. It’s full of life and color, and identifying it as scary would be out of place. And while Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” does make a perfect example of a ‘scary Christmas,’ it does not qualify as a traditional, spine-chilling horror movie. But contrary to popular narrative — certain media out there does it, and does it well. Think of the latest “Fargo” episode that runs a Halloween theme and blends it with “Nightmare Before Christmas.”
So, the appeal behind it is understandable. This is why we have curated a list of the best Christmas horror movies you can enjoy for a change of pace from all the happy and sparkly traditions.

Why do some of the best horror movies revolve around a holiday setting? Could the thought of having to be cooped up with our families send us into a monstrous rage? Or maybe it’s the idea of something that is usually so cheerful and happy is invaded by death and terror. These two things typically don’t go together, so seeing the two mashed up together in all its bloody glory can be satisfying. Eli Roth is finally bringing his entry into the Grindhouse series to life, leaving only two trailers unmade. Thanksgiving is a bloody good time (read our review) and puts us in the mood for more holiday horror. When planning your horror year, what are some of the best holiday slasher films? Let’s find out.

Wading through the many aspects of a movie to decide if it stands the Test of Time is one of the fun parts of this journey. Often times, we’ve looked at classics that are genuinely seen as good in most aspects and decide if it was good just for its era or if it was able to transcend its place in time and still be a good time today. Last year we looked at Christmas Evil, a movie that still is underseen, but is a true holiday classic. October is usually thought of as the prime time for horror, but the best horror movie of 2023 — for that matter, the most deliriously entertaining horror movie since Wes Craven‘s original “Scream” — arrives not for Halloween but for Thanksgiving. It’s a movie horror fans have been eagerly anticipating ever since director Eli Roth created a fake “Thanksgiving” trailer for Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s “Grindhouse” in 2007, and the feature version that Roth and writer Jeff Rendell have extrapolated from that hilarious and gory short is well worth the wait. Their “Thanksgiving” is an ingeniously structured, elegantly composed thrill machine. It’s also a gleeful assault on good taste; it’s what you get when a 1970s or ’80s Canadian tax shelter thriller like “Prom Night” or “My Bloody Valentine” is directed by a true artist.

Director and horror aficionado Eli Roth had plenty of fun working on his friends Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s 2007 drive-in double feature Grindhouse. Roth wasn’t part of the main attraction, but he did one of the fake trailers for a non-existent feature called Thanksgiving that was placed between the two films. That trailer was a hilarious and gruesome satire of the ’80s trend of holiday-themed horror movies such as Halloween, Black Christmas, My Bloody Valentine, April Fool’s Day, New Year’s Evil, Silent Night Deadly Night, etc.
Massachusetts native Roth correctly surmised that no one had yet done one centered on Thanksgiving. Plymouth was the birthplace of the holiday, and Roth saw plenty of opportunities to stage some gross-out murders including several beheadings and a cooked human in the form of the traditional turkey dinner. There even was a gut-wrenching scene with a trampoline-jumping teenager meeting a memorable end.

Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

On October 25, 2023, the Daily Mail posted an image depicting Art the Clown from the popular "Terrifier" slasher series in his holiday best — a Santa hat and the flayed face of Kris Kringle himself, wielding an axe in front of a Christmas tree. The bottom of the poster had "Damien Leone's Terrifier 3" listed as the title. Considering the abundance of fan art made from the film series, there was debate whether or not this was leaked promotional material or just a well-made bit of fantasy booking. Well, Bloody Disgusting and Cineverse have cleared the air to confirm that the poster was legitimate, and that "Terrifier 3" will be a Christmas horror movie.
The announcement comes paired with the theatrical re-release of the 2022 hit "Terrifer 2" on November 1, 2023, which will include an exclusive sneak peek teaser for the holiday horror slasher. "For those of you speculating that the 'Terrifier 3' teaser...

Holiday horror has officially moved from the month of October to the chillier air of the Christmas season. Genre fans making their 31 Days of Horror list during Halloween can just as easily come up with 25 scary movies to watch every day in December. This year, Joe Begos and company added "Christmas Bloody Christmas" to the growing pile of Yuletide horror found underneath the VHS tree. Call it "Xmas-ploitation" if you must. In what's essentially a non-stop chase featuring a killer robot Santa (Abraham Benrubi), Begos could have easily delivered a run-of-the-mill slasher without any real visual flair. Instead, "Christmas Bloody Christmas" is a wonder to look at, mostly thanks to cinematographer Brian Sowell's ability to bathe the small town streets in a luminous and ominous trail of lights. In /Film's review, Chris Evangelista said the film has "a style so sharp that it borders on breathtaking," and he's not wrong.

There are a lot of Christmas horror movies out there, but the most controversial one of all was the 1984 slasher Silent Night, Deadly Night. A film that was run out of theatres by outraged parents… and then used the controversy as a foundation to build a lengthy franchise on. To celebrate the holidays this year, we here at Arrow in the Head have compiled a list of the Best Moments in the Silent Night, Deadly Night Franchise. To see what our picks were, keep scrolling. Then let us know what you would choose as the franchise’s best moments by leaving a comment below!
Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984): Visit With Grandpa
There’s no violence in this moment, but it still ranks as one of the most disturbing scenes in this franchise. Little Billy accompanies his parents on a Christmas Eve visit to his grandfather, who sits in a...

The Pitch: Everyone that celebrates Christmas probably has a holiday movie that they watch to get them in the spirit. For some, it's the Rankin and Bass claymation specials. For others, it's "Die Hard." Growing up, "Elf" and "A Christmas Story" during its 24-hour marathon on TBS were my family's go-tos for Christmas morning cheer.
Of course, I still follow this tradition — I will defend "Elf" as a whimsically fun time until my dying breath. However, as I grew older and developed my own taste in films, I expanded my holiday watches. Nowadays, I turn on stuff like "Black Christmas" and the first two "Silent Night, Deadly Night" movies,...

After Thanksgiving, my mind begins to wander. I start dreaming of all of the exciting things that the coming weeks will bring. Specifically, diving into all of my Christmas horror favorites. It’s time for Black Christmas(s)! It’s time for Silent Night Deadly Night! It’s time for Krampus! Food, gifts, family and merriment are great, but as I’ve explained before, all of that stuff hasn’t been hitting me in the same way recently. Horror movies have really stepped up to fill that gap and allow me to enjoy the holiday on my own terms.
Over the past few years, another film has joined my list and if I’m being honest, has become one of my most anticipated watches every December. The immortal classic, Jack Frost. I was first introduced to it on The Last Drive-In in 2019 and it became an immediate favorite. The ridiculousness...

Directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr. from a screenplay by Michael Hickey (with Paul Caimi receiving story credit), Silent Night, Deadly Night has the following synopsis: Bearing the emotional scars of a young boy who has seen his mother and father brutally murdered by a savage killer in a Santa Claus costume, 18-year-old Billy explodes into a lethal frenzy – he’s asked to put on a Santa Claus suit himself to entertain the customers of the department store where he works.

The first two Silent Night, Deadly Night films get all the glory — to the point where casual horror fans may be surprised to learn that three more installments were produced in the franchise. The 1984 original generated highly publicized controversy by showing its killer dressed as Santa Claus in advertisements, while the 1987 first sequel gained cult status for its over-the-top campiness and liberal reuse of clips from its predecessor.
The series was then relegated to straight-to-video territory with 1989’s Silent Night, Deadly Night 3: Better Watch Out, 1990’s Silent Night, Deadly Night 4: Initiation, and 1991’s Silent Night, Deadly Night 5: The Toy Maker. While the third installment continues the killer Santa plot, the storyline was abandoned for the latter two installments, which each tell an unrelated tale set during Christmastime.

My favorite scene in the Last Slay Ride is actually a tie between the opening scene and the Dinner scene at the Mansion Steve Larkin who plays our loan shark in the film is wildly funny.
How would you compare this to other Christmas horror flicks?

How did you get attached to The Last Slay Ride? – I had worked with the director (Jason Hawkins) on the last two of his projects prior to “Last Slay Ride”. One of which (Deleted) I played the lead role in. I chalk it up to the right place, right time, and a familiarity with the overall team.
What was your role in The Last Slay Ride? – I played the role of Josh. the director of the fictional film “Slash camp”, and bumbling fool that attempts to lead his friends through a fight of good and evil.
What is your favorite scene in the film? – I think my favorite scene was also my favorite to film; The Big vampire reveal. Which was some of the first stuff we shot, day three or four if I remember correctly.

Since its release, "Krampus" has become a Christmas favorite of mine. "Rare Exports" and "A Christmas Horror Story" are often listed among the best adaptations of the Germanic legend, but I believe director Michael Doughtery's 2015 holiday horror flick has done the best job at bringing the titular mischief-maker to the screen. The story about a household being overtaken by Krampus and his adorable holiday minions introduces the centuries-old legend in a concise, hilarious, and thrilling way that only the filmmaker behind the influential "Trick 'r Treat" could have pulled off.
"Krampus" features a pretty spectacular ensemble with Emjay Anthony, Toni Collette, Conchata Ferrell, David Koechner, Adam Scott, Krista Stadler, and Alison Tolman. On top of all of that, the film nestles in quite nicely alongside "Gremlins" as a wonderful piece of holiday gateway horror. That's pretty much what the legend is, anyways.

In 1988, there was an R-rated action film that took place during Christmas time. That movie is ‘Die Hard’ which starred Bruce Willis as the loose-cannon cop who saves innocent people from a group of terrorists at a skyscraper in Los Angeles. Now in 2022, there is a new R-rated Christmas action film called ‘Violent Night’ which stars David Harbour of the hit show ‘Stranger Things’ as a Santa Claus who brutally massacres bad guys just to save a snobby family. It will astonish audiences with dark humor and gruesome graphic violence. Seeing David Harbour in a Santa Claus suit will sort of remind some audiences of the slasher horror film ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ since it features a character who also dresses like Santa Claus and goes on a murdering spree. What makes ‘Violent Night’ different is the fact that it is an action film that goes for thrilling shock values.

All Andrea wants this year for Christmas is a little peace. And after being the target of harassment for the last year, she deserves it. The teenage protagonist at the heart of the 1993 book Slay Ride can’t even ride the bus to school without being made the subject of lewd jokes and unfounded rumors. Her life is hell and no one wants to help her. The situation only changes when Andrea gains an ally. Someone goes to great lengths to help Andrea with her bullies, but at some point she starts to wonder if maybe her “Guardian Angel” has gone too far.

Listening to the lyrics of "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town," it's easy to read a menacing tone from its warnings. Saint Nick sees you when you're sleeping. He even knows your sins. So you better watch out ... or else.
The idea of a less jolly Santa is a wellspring of humor and broken spines in Tommy Wirkola's "Violent Night," which sees David Harbour's Santa Claus doling out "season's beatings" in defense of a child on his coveted "good" list. As "Violent Night" steers its sleigh into theaters this week, moviegoers are treated to the sight of a hammer-swinging, street-fighting Father Christmas, bedecked in Celtic tattoos and crushing the heads and hearts of numerous henchmen commanded by John Leguizamo's holiday-hating mercenary Jimmy "Scrooge" Martinez. Christmas Bloody Christmas Review: A Robotic Santa Goes Haywire In This Uber-Stylish Holiday Slasher
Christmas has become a ripe season for horror. The holiday horror subgenre is alive and kicking, and it feels like every year we get at least a handful of Christmas-set creepers, usually involving some sort of killer Santa Claus. It's nothing new — Santa has been slashing for years, in one form or another. When TriStar Pictures released "Silent Night, Deadly Night" in 1984, complete with a poster featuring Santa's arm clutching an axe as he descends down a chimney, there was an uproar. The uproar was so loud that TriStar pulled the pic from theaters after a week — which wasn't such a big deal, as "Silent Night, Deadly Night" had already made back its meager budget, and then some, at that point.
"Silent Night, Deadly Night" wasn't the first film to feature some sort of evil Santa — 1978's thriller "The Silent Partner" has Christopher Plummer as a sadistic thief who dresses...

Outside of "Die Hard," the filmography of Shane Black, and also the masterpiece that is "Reindeer Games," Christmas action movies are few and far between, which often leads us to the tired debate of whether "Die Hard" even counts. Thankfully, director Tommy Wirkola is about to unleash a very welcome present to even things out this year with "Violent Night." A murderous Santa Clause is nothing new when you take into account movies like "Christmas Evil" or "Silent Night, Deadly Night." Where this film differs, however, is that David Harbour's Santa is taking names, not due to his own homicidal rage, but because he's saving a family from a group of mercenaries taking them hostage.
Between "Black Widow" and "Hellboy," Harbour seems to have made a name for himself playing red-suited characters kicking butt. The color suits him well. It's one thing to imagine the "Stranger Things" star going...

Every year brings the annual rewatches of my holiday favorites and an occasional new one, and it's looking increasingly likely that "Violent Night" may become one of them. I'll happily bawl over the emotional catharsis of "It's a Wonderful Life," but sometimes the reason for the season calls for a horror zombie musical ("Anna and the Apocalypse") or a visit from German folklore ("Krampus"). 2022's "Violent Night" appears to fixate quite nicely in the middle, featuring "Stranger Things" star David Harbour as he doles out some bloody season's beatings in the name of Christmas. Sometimes all you need is a movie that envisions Santa Claus going all John McClane in order to protect a good kid from a group of mercenaries on Christmas Eve. The cherry on top is that this yuletide beatdown comes from director Tommy Wirkola, the filmmaker behind "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" and the "Dead Snow" series.

If it's one thing all horror fans understand, it's that every month is a good month for watching scary movies. Sure, we often like to ramp up the on-screen scares come October, but the frights still continue throughout the rest of the year. And while the holiday season brings with it a lot to celebrate and be thankful for, there's also quite a lot that still goes bump in the night.
In honor of the various terrors that occur every December — i.e. every single trip you will take to a shopping mall in the coming weeks — here is a list of the best horror movies available to stream this month. Consider it your holiday gift guide for movies you can watch after the family has gone home and you are left to piece your sanity back together. The holidays may only come around once a year, but terror lasts forever.

You've seen Santa Claus stand as the epitome of seasonal goodwill in movies like "Miracle on 34th Street" and "The Christmas Chronicles." You've even seen Santa as a foul-mouthed drunk with "Bad Santa." But have you seen him stuff a grenade down someone's pants and watch him go kaboom? Well, it appears you're in luck, as director Tommy Wirkola's "Violent Night" sees David Harbour don the big red suit to take out a group of mercenaries holding a family hostage on Christmas Eve. Could you truly ask for anything more?

Exclusive: Orwo Studios and Black Hanger Studios (Jeepers Creepers: Reborn) have acquired remake rights to controversial 1984 slasher film Silent Night, Deadly Night, which Orwo is beginning sales on at the virtual EFM.
The original film’s producers Scott Schneid and Dennis Whitehead of Wonderwheel Entertainment are also aboard with a planned delivery date in 2022.
Silent Night, Deadly Night tells the story of a child who is traumatized after seeing his parents killed by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Years later, he dons a Santa suit himself and gets bloody revenge. The movie spawned multiple sequels over the years and a loose remake in 2012.
It was the original that caused a stir, however.
The cult film was among the more controversial films of the ’80s due to its graphic violence and advertising campaign, particularly its posters and TV spots, that made significant emphasis on the killer being dressed as Santa.
