As the years go by, it becomes increasingly difficult to be the first person to review a film on IMDb. So here I am--staking out ground on this Canadian made action flick about the hard knock lives of three mercenaries. One of only a handful of theatrical features directed by Jorge Montesi, the ironically titled Sentimental Reasons begins somewhere in Africa, where soldiers of fortune Alex, Helmut, and Peter (Montesi, Arvi Liimatainen, and screenwriter Peter Haynes) are trying to pry some secrets out of a man who unfortunately ends up dead. Flash forward ten years to contemporary Canada, where Peter tries to convince his old comrades to come out of retirement for One Last Big Score involving oil futures and aborigines. The acting is dreadful (Montesi and Haynes are particularly wooden), but it's still an interesting film to watch and Paul Zaza's dissonant score occasionally pleases.
