A tender love story, Dina is a documentary that could easily be mistaken for a fiction film. Framed in long takes, often on a tripod, several choices other than its style call the film’s legitimacy into question, including a key moment which occurs in the film’s third act that leaves one wondering if directors Dan Sickles and Antonio Santini are playing fair. The film, up until that moment, is so engrossing that as manipulative as it may appear, I’m willing to forgive the choice of pulling back the curtain a bit on a moment that’s offered up with little context.
The story of Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize winner follows Dina Buno, a 49-year-old living on disability, suffering from a neurological disorder, and her courtship with Scott Levin, a Walmart greeter with Asperger syndrome. The filmmakers arrive after Scott proposes to Dina at a Red Robin,...

★★★★☆ Imagine if H.P. Lovecraft had written The Joy of Sex, or better still a porn parody of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker. Neither of these analogies are particularly accurate but we're in the right territory - the wild region to use a more literal translation of the original title - for Mexican director Amat Escalante's polymorphously perverse fantasy The Untamed, slopping onto the Venice Lido this week. A massive asteroid or perhaps a rock-like spaceship hangs in the cold vastness of space. From here, we go to a dark sweaty place where a young woman Veronica (Simone Bucio) is having sex with a large tentacle.

"Sandstone" is a thought-provoking window into the heart of the sexual revolution in Southern California in the 1970’s. This legendary mountain top retreat was a fantasy playground for adults and an important social experiment rolled into one. Sandstone is relevant today because it facilitates an open dialogue about the pressure many people still feel from traditional societal expectations about sexuality and what is ‘normal’.
About the film:
Filmed in the 1970’s, famed producer, Jonathan Dana’s "Sandstone" has been re-mastered and is making its exclusive worldwide digital premiere on IndieFlix this week. The company's goal is to entertain and engage their viewers with a socially relevant conversation about group marriage, relationships and sexuality.
The Cultural Connection:
When "Sandstone" was filmed, the ‘sexual revolution’ was a reaction to the pressure to be ‘normal’ as defined by mainstream society. It was a backlash against the traditional 1950’s lifestyle in which appearances, perfection and convention were prized above emotional fulfillment, freedom or growth.
While the term ‘sexual revolution’ generally implies the period from the 1960’s to the late 1970’s, in many ways our society is in the midst of a second wave of sexual liberation and equality. There is an increased acceptance and even celebration of sexual identity, the Lgbtq community and nontraditional relationship dynamics such as polyamory.
The release of Sandstone is a timely and important contribution to the global conversation about what comprises ‘relationship’, and IndieFlix seems to be the right company to present this exclusive film.
Alex Comfort, author of The Joy of Sex, said of the film, "Anyone in search of the joy of sex should see this film."...

After ten years of marriage and two kids, Annie and Jay (Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel) aim to spice up their love life by performing every possible manoeuvre from The Joy Of Sex in a three-hour bonkathon that they somewhat rashly decide to film on their tablet. Unfortunately, they left the sharing setting on... Bawdy laughs ensue as the mortified couple embark on a frantic race against Quicktime.

Color me absolutely astonished that this is genuinely sweet and wholly sex-positive. Unfortunately, it’s also completely unfunny. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): not a fan of what passes for comedy in Hollywood
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
Annie (Cameron Diaz: The Other Woman, The Counsellor) and Jay (Jason Segel: This Is the End, The Five-Year Engagement) need to spice up their bedroom time: they’re still madly in love with each other, but their busy lives — including two rambunctious gradeschoolers — have left them just plain physically exhausted. So they decide to video themselves running through all the positions in The Joy of Sex. It works: they have a wonderful night. But a mishap with the Cloud and some iPads that they had given away as gifts — to family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances — sees the file accidentally distributed to all those other devices.

Having previously teamed up for 2011’s Bad Teacher, director Jake Kasdan reunites with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel for R-rated comedy Sex Tape. Though it starts strong and finishes well, script flaws mean it’s unfunny for the majority of its run time, squandering the potential of a great cast and an entertaining premise.
Segel and Diaz play Jay and Annie, a married couple whose sex life has dulled in the ten years they’ve been together. With the kids out of the house, the two eventually decide to rekindle their intimacy by making a video of themselves trying out every position in ‘The Joy of Sex’. Though the gambit works, Annie and Jay soon discover that their private video has gone public.
That’s a perfectly fine setup, and the opening act is a strong one too. Crucially the film doesn’t begin, as so many others in the genre do,...

Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel get themselves into a rather tricky position in Sex Tape, in more ways than one. The two bounced off each other pretty well in Bad Teacher and apparently, that was enough to convince director Jake Kasdan to throw them together again and cut loose with some cheeky nudity and a naughty premise and the end result is a flabby, largely unfunny comedy. Awkward...
Right away, the couple are seen getting up close and very personal, but those were the good old days fondly recalled by Annie (Diaz) who now writes a parenting blog between chores, sleep and sexual frustration. Her now-husband Jay (Segel) has resorted to booking appointments for possible nookie and when they do find the time, it's all friction and no sparks.

Quick, does the term “fire log” make you feel turned on, centered, or both? It’s no secret that the names of sex positions are weirdly similar to those of yoga poses, increasing the odds that you and a fellow yogi will get to know each other a lot better after just one class. After reading up on The Joy of Sex, VH1′s Kate Spencer tasked Sex Tape stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel with determining whether a move is reserved for the yoga studio, or the bedroom. Segel goes the extra mile by sharing his favorite sex position and accompanying noises, which should come in handy in case any of your long-running Nick Andopolis fantasies suddenly come true. All is revealed in the video above. Namaste.

This weekend, moviegoers will be treated (?) to the sight of Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz repeatedly getting it on during Sex Tape, as their characters attempt to recreate every single position from The Joy of Sex and spice up their marriage in the process. Expect lots of big laughs and raunchy sight gags… though one thing audiences shouldn’t be hoping for is something they haven’t seen before. After all, the beast with two backs is hardly an endangered species in Hollywood, and there are always plenty of steamy sex scenes heating up multiplexes. What’s a little bit less common, however, are scenes that play getting down and dirty for laughs, intentionally or otherwise.
But in honor of Sex Tape, our brave writers have looked back at cinema to find some of the funniest instances of stars bumping uglies on screen. Though we feel that it would be...

The Cameron Diaz–Jason Segel farce Sex Tape is hit or miss, but it’s fun to think of it as a 2014 version of a Rock Hudson–Doris Day picture. In those retroactively even-weirder movies, Doris and Rock often had to find ways to put the spice back into their marriage. The couple in this one has the same problem (kids, jobs, and watching a baby “crown” can all, indeed, put a damper on one’s libido), but their solution wasn’t available 50 years ago: They use their iPad to photograph three hours of fumbling but ultimately satisfying attempts to execute every position in The Joy of Sex. If it sounds kinky, well, apart from Diaz’s long stems and Segel’s newly slim physique, the film is only sexy by the vanilla standards of the American multiplex; at heart, it’s about as naughty as an old Disney movie with Dean Jones,...

We’re just past the Summer mid-point and the tide of rated R for “raunchy” feature films rolls on. So far, we’ve gotten a visit from Melissa McCarthy with Tammy and Seth McFarlane starring in (not just his voice like Ted) A Million Ways To Die In The West. We started early in May with the team captain of the Apatow squad, Seth Rogan in the hit Neighbors. And we’ve even had a sequel with the return of Joanh and Channing in 22 Jump Street. This new flick is unique, because it’s more of a reunion than sequel. Three years ago director Jake Kasdan (Orange County) teamed with Jason Segal (another member of the Apatow frat) and Cameron Diaz (co-star of that milestone of “R” comedy hits, There’S Something About Mary) for the box office hit Bad Teacher. Now there’s a sequel in the works for...

Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) used to love to fuck. Having hooked up in college, they would screw in her dorm, in his car, in the library stacks, even behind a tree. Ten years, two kids and one marriage later, that spark has apparently vanished, prompting the desperate couple to film a comprehensive reenactment of “The Joy of Sex” in a bid to get it back. However, this being 2014, their exploits have been filmed with an iPad and not on a video camera, allowing the file to handily vanish into the little-understood Cloud for storage. As a radio DJ, Jay has an unlikely amount of iPads at his disposal and hands them off to friends and family once he’s done with them, and as a mommy blogger, Annie is dreadfully worried that their three-hour lovemaking session might be seen by anyone they’ve given a device, including her wholesome new employer, Hank...

Sex Tape gets off to a bad start and I mean a really bad start as Annie (Cameron Diaz) sits down on her mommy blog to tap out her frustrations with the lack of sex in her marriage to Jay (Jason Segel) while recounting the long, sexually charged history of their relationship. Within minutes this movie has you saying, "We get it! Now let's get on with the movie," and yet, the set up takes another 20-30 minutes before the first truly funny scene takes place. As it turns out, that scene, which runs about 7-10 minutes is the only consistently funny scene in the movie and certainly not worth the price of admission. Annie and Jay are married with two kids, the oldest of which is just about to "graduate" from the fourth to the fifth grade, and their marriage has lost its sizzle. However, as Annie is heading...

Jake Kasdan is to directing comedy what Friedrich Nietzsche is to baking apple strudel. Not much.
As with his Bad Teacher (2011), which also stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal, Kasdan takes a promising concept and lays waste to it. The highly workable concept is a simple one: a sexually active couple, Jay (Segal) and Annie (Diaz), copulate like bunnies on ecstasy until they wed. Two precocious children later, the O in orgasms has moved on to the O on Cheerios boxes. He now is a music producer, I believe, and she blogs a column entitled "Who’s Yo Mommy?" Yes, copulation is no longer a spontaneous act for this duo. Instead, it has to be planned for ahead of time.
So one night, when the kids are at that grandmother’s, the pair try to get it on as they once used to, but to no avail, until Annie suggests...

One major contender for comedy of the summer (though Neighbors may already have that one in the bag) is definitely Columbia Pictures’ upcoming Sex Tape, in which a bored married couple (Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz) decide to spice up their love life by recording themselves recreating every position in The Joy of Sex. However, when their lengthy video is accidentally uploaded to the cloud and distributed across every iPad they gave out the preceding Christmas (because rich people problems), the couple find themselves racing against time to destroy every copy of the sex tape before their friends, loved ones and even their postman can get a glimpse.
Our first clip from the comedy puts the focus squarely on Diaz’s sex appeal – and seeing as Diaz recently spoke to Esquire about going nude before the camera for the first time in her career for Sex Tape (“It’s a first for me.

Even before they first teamed up in 2011′s Bad Teacher, Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel shared the same no-shame-no-gain approach to comedy. Now the two stars reunite for more awkward yuks in Sex Tape (rated R, out July 18), playing a married couple with kids who decide to revive a flaccid love life by making their own private porno—hilariously re-creating every position in The Joy of Sex—which naturally falls into the wrong hands. It's not every day that Cameron Diaz strips down in front of a group of people, but during the shooting for her new film, Sex Tape, she got very comfortable, very quickly. "The whole movie is lovemaking between the characters," Diaz tells People. "The crew was awesome and so respectful. It's not a vanity thing. It's about telling a story." In the film, out July 25, Diaz and costar Jason Segel play a married couple who film themselves trying out every position in The Joy of Sex, only to have the tape go missing. "There's such trust [with Jason]," says Diaz. "We both had each other's backs.

With shooting wrapped since late last year, director Jake Kasdan is finishing up post-production on his reunion with Bad Teacher stars Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel in Sex Tape. Now the first picture has arrived online. The film’s concept finds the pair playing Jay and Annie, a couple who enjoyed an intense connection when they first got together. But ten years and two kids into marriage, things have definitely lost the sparkle. In an attempt to inject a little passion and danger into their relationship, they decide to pack the children off to a friends’ house and make a video of themselves as they try out every position in The Joy Of Sex during one marathon, three-hour session. Of course, when they learn that the video has somehow escaped into the wider world, and they’re just one click away from being exposed (in every sense) to everyone they know,...

The first picture from Jake Kasdan's Sex Tape has arrived featuring Bad Teacher co-stars Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz, playing a married couple wake up to discover that the sex tape they made the evening before has gone missing, leading to a frantic search for its whereabouts. The film is set for a July 25 release and co-stars Rob Corddry, Rob Lowe and Ellie Kemper. I would expect we'll see a trailer any day now, though I did attempt to search for it on YouTube just now and, as you'd expect, there are more than enough videos with the title "sex tape" in them, which should make for some interesting conversations for anyone that decides to hit up Google searching for more information on this movie. That said, here's the official synopsis so you don't have to look any further: When Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) first got together,...

"Sex Tape" gets played on July 25th.
