Glen Powell has been acting since he was a kid but did not get that required breakout role for a long time. Many fans didn’t know he was in Spy Kids 3D, The Great Debaters, and The Dark Knight Rises. He also had supporting roles in acclaimed films in the 2010s like Hidden Figures and Everybody Wants Some!!.
Glen Powell as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick | Paramount Pictures
Powell got his much-deserved breakout role as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick. The character’s arc was parallel to the arc of Val Kilmer’s Hangman in the first Top Gun. The two actors ended up in an elevator after shooting wrapped on the film. Looking at Powell’s luggage cart, Kilmer had a funny reaction that made Powell incredibly happy and proud.

Top Gun: Maverick was not only a treat to the film industry but to the eyes as well thanks to Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, and of course, Glen Powell. The actors put their best foot forward into making the film what it is and somewhere along the way, we fell in love with every single face we saw on the screen. Whether it was the film’s intense, emotional, or fun scenes like the one on the beach, everything was crafted to perfection.

An actor who has embodied a range of characters from playing a superhero to portraying iconic real-life figures on the screen, Val Kilmer excels when it comes to portraying complex characters. He also showcased his acting prowess in Michael Mann’s 1995 film Heat as he took on the role of Chris Shiherlis, starring alongside Al Pacino and Robert De Niro.

Despite starring alongside such acclaimed names, Kilmer stood out in the film. And as the filmmaker gears up for the production of a sequel, he recently reflected on his time working with the Riddle star and his distinctive and potentially difficult-to-replace presence.

Dallas Liu’s Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation has already shown us how the actor can handle CGI fire, and that puts the character in the running for a host of pyrokinetic characters across media. However, one character that Liu himself wishes to essay is a race-bent Pyro, the character from the X-Men with the exact powerset as Zuko.

Liu has already essayed a role in the MCU, appearing in Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as the younger brother of Akwafina’s character, but that has not deterred the actor from voicing his MCU wishlist, which includes the pyrokinetic mutant Pyro, who is set to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, played by Aaron Stanford (who will be reprising his role back from his X-Men days)

“Dom (Home in Russian),” “Quir” and “Iceman” look like potential standouts at Swiss Films Previews, the only spread of national movies at Switzerland’s Visions du Réel, the country’s leading doc festival.
Presented via excerpts at a two-hour showcase on Wednesday, three further titles – “Kalari – the Martial Art of Female Power,” “The Boy from the River Drina” and “Spheres” – underscored the strength in depth of documentary filmmaking in Switzerland and at least in this year’s Previews, a leitmotif. In an era of adverse circumstance, the doc features highlight figures who rebel, whether against Russia’s war on the Ukraine (“Dom”), climate change (“Iceman”), homophobia in Palermo, gender violence (“Kalari”), the Srebrenica massacre (“Boy”) or, in the case of Daniel Zimmermann, director of “Spheres,” stock narrative.
The films’ protagonists rebel, moreover, with courage, good humor, imagination, and above all resilience. “Quir,” for example, captures footage of gay couple Massimo Milani...

Oscar winner Timothy Hutton, currently the star of the freshman Fox drama “Almost Family,” has been accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in 1983. According to a report published online by BuzzFeed News, Sera Johnston, who last year filed a criminal complaint against Hutton with the Vancouver Police Department, said she was assaulted by the actor while he was in town to shoot the film “Iceman.”
Johnston told the site that she was just 14 when she and two friends were invited to Hutton’s hotel room, where she said she was raped and assaulted by both Hutton (who was then in his 20s) and one of his friends. Johnston, now 50, said she didn’t come forward until after the #MeToo movement gained strength because she didn’t think anyone would believe her.

Jonathan Hickman is returning to Marvel next week to light a fire under the X-Men, and at San Diego Comic Con, he shared his plans for the first wave of X-Men comics to follow his place-setting launch titles, House of X and Powers of X.
Six books launch in the first wave: X-Men, Excalibur, X-Force, New Mutants, Fallen Angels and Marauders.
"House of X and Powers of X lay the groundwork for a whole new world of X-Men stories for years to come, and the Dawn of X books are the promise of that new world come to life,” said X-Men Senior Editor Jordan D. White in a press statement.

It is difficult to call “Iceman 2: The Time Traveller” a film. An audio-visual junked-up mirage seems more fitting. The mess of the story cannot be explained by any of the conceptions of theoretical physics, and at its end, you easily join He Ying (Donnie Yen) in his philosophical quest. While his is the question of historical accountability, yours would be purely ontological. Quite probably many slang words will be used to utter: Why has this thing seen the daylight?
You know what? Let`s look on the bright side of “Iceman 2: The Time Traveller”. The sequel to 2014 action sci-fi blockbuster opens with a very thoughtful guided 10-minutes explanation on time travel and a recap of the “Iceman” (2014) to make it easier for those, who for whatever reason have missed the first film, or totally blacked it out. In 1866 David Livingston set out to find the source of The Nile. In 1924 George Mallory set out to conquer Everest. In 1936 Professor Jones fought of Nazis in a mission to find the Arc of The Covenant. Now in 2019 maybe, just maybe I’ll get my hands on my own Holy Grail. I am of course talking about Incredible Hulk #181. The debut issue of Wolverine! The best there is at what he does. Before I get into prices and all that stuff I want to talk a bit about how Wolverine came to be.
In 1974 Incredible Hulk writer Len Wein was looking to pit the green goliath against a new foe. Upon creating this new character he knew two things. Firstly he wanted him to be Canadian to increase sales north of the border. Secondly he wanted him to be a mutant, so potentially he could be used in future X-Men books.

Another year in the books, another batch of incredible comics for you to read! These are the best comics of 2018.
Comics, like all art, can be a mirror on society or a safe harbor from its worst tendencies, and thankfully again in 2018, we got some incredible books this year. I’ve been watching our pull lists since the calendar flipped in January, keeping an eye out for the best comics to share with you, and we’ve finally cut it down to just 10. But first, a few honorable mentions.
Yoshitoki Oima’s To Your Eternity was probably the best new manga I read this year, but I kept it off the list because as good as the newest volumes are, the first one is stellar and it was published too early. Transformers: Unicron is a great way to end a fascinating era of Transformers comics, one that...

From Ghostbusters 3 to a Firefly reunion, videogames are doing what movies can't...
Tie-in video games are nothing new in the moviemaking or televisual world. Through these spin-off products, we can play out adventures featuring our favourite characters without having to leave the house.
Most of the time, though, said characters don’t sound quite right. For financial reasons, you’ll often see a different voice cast step in to replace the overly expensive stars from the original film or TV version. Admittedly, these stand-ins do a very good job from time to time. But you can always tell the difference.
Sometimes, though, providing a rare treat for fans, actors can be convinced – by money, passion or a good script - to reprise their iconic film or TV characters once more for a video game adventure. Here are 32 games that featured instances of this incredibly fun phenomenon…...

TNT’s Leverage is a phenomenon. I can say that because the show was announced as appearing at Comic-Con only five days before the convention and the cast still appeared to a huge crowd. After the fact, series co-creator Chris Downey, along with cast members Timothy Hutton (Nate), Beth Riesgraf (Parker), Christian Kane (Eliot) and Aldis Hodge (Hardison), as well as guest star Wil Wheaton (Chaos), dropped in to discuss…well, just about everything!

The summer of 1985. Has it really been twenty-five years. Wow! I don't really feel old, but its amazing that era was so long ago and yet the memories feel like yesterday. I was ten going on eleven and enjoying my summer break. Though my parents wouldn't let me leave my neighborhood with my friends, they always took me to the cinema as often as they could, which is where my love of movies comes from. I consider myself fortunate to have shared some great movie moments with my family and with my parents coming to town to visit me this summer, we hope to have some more.Hollywood still makes great movies today, but the eighties were a time when most of the movies you saw were good. At least they seemed to be good at that early age. Time can often be cruel and with maturity comes the revelation...

Sci-fi TV
Contrary to our earlier report, Fox Will be celebrating the end of King Of The Hill with a special one-hour series finale, to be broadcast September 13. However, there are six unaired eleventh season Hill half-hours so this may account for only two of them. The others, presumably, will finally see daylight on DVD and in the syndicated rerun package.
ABC has upgraded its 13-episode V series revival. Instead of a mid-season bow, the new V will premiere November 3, airing Tuesdays, 8 p.m.
The only New genre show airing tonight is a Ghost Hunters International (“Holy Ghosts,” set in Chile, Syfy, 9 p.m.), braced between Ghi reruns. Thursday night brings two Supernatural reruns to the CW (8 & 9 p.m.): “Death Takes a Holiday” and “On the Head of a Pin.” The fall TV season—with all-new episodes of most everything—begins in less than a month.
