Much like the dreary, bitter weather that turns January into a desolate tundra, new releases that appear during this month also typically experience that same deep freeze in terms of quality. Coming off a December awards season push, studios dump lesser movies in hopes that the lack of competition will let cinematic duds score big at the box office because there’s simply nothing else to see. Don’t believe me? I just watched The Legend Of Hercules. Well, not so much “watched” as “sat through an agonizingly embarrassing film that defines what a bad 3D conversion looks like.” January brings a bit of a cinematic Ice Age, and our latest victim is none other than the film I’m here to review, Ride Along.
In this stereotypical buddy comedy, we meet Ben Barber (Kevin Hart), a lowly security guard who learns that his dream of joining the police academy just came true.

Breakout Kings, which premiered last night on A&E, is unfortunately not a Breaking Bad spin-off. It’s a cop show. No, wait, I’m wrong. It’s a cop show about cops who aren’t cops (seriously, ask them) because they’re convicts! But still cops. So, yes, it’s a cop show, but it’s (trying to be) a little different. If Guy Ritchie were stuck in solitary confinement for a month and forced to watch nothing but NYPD Blue and Ocean’s Eleven, this is the television show that he would produce on the 31st day. (Irish fighting sequence?...

Fast talking comedian J.B. Smoove will have a new film to add to his resume. We’ve just learned, courtesy of The Playlist, he’ll be joining Cameron Crowe’s dramedy We Bought A Zoo.
The film already has an impressive performance list which includes Matt Damon, Scarlett Johansson and Thomas Haden Church. Based on memoir by Benjamin Mee, the true story depicts a father (Damon) who moves his family to the English countryside to own and operate a zoo.
Smoove is probably best known for his role on Curb Your Enthusiasm, an HBO comedy show created by and starring Larry David. He’s also slated to appear in The Sitter, a David Gordon Green film as well as Hall Pass, a Farrelly Brothers film.

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
With Whip It swirling its way into theaters, it’s a wonder no one has fully acknowledged the absolutely amazing athletic work these brave actresses have put into the final product. Let’s face it, not all actors can “bring it” when it comes to believably portraying a real-life athlete.
Truth of the matter is, it’s about as rare a feat as you’re likely to see capably pulled off in Hollywood. Ellen Page (who will more than likely make a later edition of this list) made frantically scuttering around a cylindrical death-track look effortless, even graceful. Hell, the entire cast made roller derby look like the ballet with brute violence. This got me to thinking – Which other Hollywood actors have been the most convincing athletes on the big screen? They deserve their due (to go along with their millions of...
