One of Hallervorden's best I think

Warning: Spoilers
The 90-minute "Didi und die Rache der Enterbten" or "Nonstop Trouble with the Family" or "Auch Erben müssen sterben" is a somewhat dark comedy and not the most usual film for Dieter Hallervorden during the 1980s. Here he plays a character who has the same name like himself and also many many more characters, including a whole lot of family members who try too kill poor Didi in order to get an inheritance that was intended for Didi. But Didi actually is not the one who ends up dying on all kinds of occasions. It is a really huge project for Hallervorden here looking at how many characters he plays and that he also co-directed. I think no other German actor back then could have pulled it off. But of course the film also offers the usual brand of comedy that Hallervorden was entertaining his audiences back then. He was such a great talent, still is today, even if he is part of entirely different films these days. As for this one here, I must say I quite enjoyed it. The script is entertaining, Hallervorden is at his peak (over 30 years ago) and the costumes are great fun too. I especially loved him when he played that elitist older woman. Hilarious stuff, but the other ones are funny too as is Didi the protagonist. Really great moments were perhaps missing, that's why I don't give it a higher rating, but I was well-entertained nonetheless. I realize this brand of comedy is certainly not for everybody, but I still give it a thumbs-up and I recommend it to you. Check it out!

INDIFFERENT AND SELDOM FUNNY
J. Steed12 April 1999
Not as bad as the average German farce of the last 30 years, but still an indifferent, seldom really funny film, that is a kind of poor man's version of Kind Hearts and Coronets (with Alec Guinness). It is painful to see how bad most jokes are timed. The end sequence (labyrinth of mirrors) seems to be borrowed from Orson Welles' Lady from Shanghai; and as this is not used for e.g. a subtle parody, there is no excuse.

Funny faces- One Didi
amikus200024 July 2000
Dr. Dieter Hallervorden 'Didi' (Dr. in Romanistics) made his 2nd movie in 1984 of the New-West-German-Comedy (1970s-1989) era. The revenge of the non-heiring persons was planed with not so much intellect, but the simple gags are a sign of that time. If you enter it with a kind of funny, small humour, you won't forget ever, if you expect intellect or long arranged gags, then you should stay out.

Didi Hallervorden und die Rache der Enterbten

Warning: Spoilers
"Didi und die Rache der Enterbten" is a late Didi movie of Dieter Hallervorden! He said it eased his way to Hollywood because it has the same story as "Heart of Coronets" with Alec Guiness! Maybe this is way to posh but this movie has severel similarities to Alecs masterpiece! You can say he is the German answer of Alec Guiness and Jerry Lewis! Therefore his career is not over yet though he is over 70 now!OK he is not so gifted as the originals but you can laugh at him as well! As my teacher for physics always said when he was to lazy to teach: "Go home or see the Didi-Sketches I have brought you:)" The story is so: Didi Dödel(engl Didi Dumbass) is an always bankrupt man and he inherits 30 million DM!This is 15 Mio Euro! The reason why he inherits all the money of his unknown relative is that he never asked him to lend him any money! His relative never knew that Didi was only to stupid to find out his address! The other family members are angry about it and try to kill Didi and each other! The last living family member must get the whole money! The clue is that like in the English original the family is played by one person! In this case it is Didi Hallervorden! I think you can not blame Didi for his less subtile kind of humour!I think it is special for the German public!Didi can do more but he does not because he gives the Germans what they want:An offensive, direct character in reference to his Didi-Sketches!!! I am sure you will enjoy it when you see the movie!I can laugh tears when I do!
