Many fans have been demanding for a sequel to Jack Black’s School of Rock, the comedy musical film that catapulted the actor to fame. There is a chance that the movie will get a follow-up according to director Richard Linklater if they find a good story.

As far as I’m concerned, director Jim Wynorski’s 1986 film Chopping Mall (watch it Here) ranks up there as one of the most entertaining horror movies of the ’80s, which is the decade that brought a lot of my favorite horror movies into the world. It’s also a movie that doesn’t seem to get referenced often enough, and doesn’t get as much respect as it deserves – even if James Wan wants to remake it and Shout Factory TV aired it for 24 hours straight on Black Friday. So I’m glad to see that Chopping Mall is getting some love from the folks at Encyclopocalypse Publications, who have announced that they’re teaming up with Shout Factory and author Brian G. Berry for a Chopping Mall novelization!
Written by Wynorski and Steve Mitchell, Chopping Mall has the following synopsis: Some people will kill for a bargain… and...

In a recent interview with joe.ie, Jack Black delves into his aspirations for a sequel. The School of Rock may be back with Black.
In an interview with Joe, Jack Black was asked about his 2003 hit film, School of Rock. He raised hopes when he responded, “I’m ready.”
“I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2: Electric Boogaloo, he said, giving a shout-out to the 1984 sequel to Breakin’, titled Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.
For the uninitiated, in School of Rock, Black played Dewey Finn, a substitute teacher who enlists some misfit students to form a rock band. The film later inspired a Broadway musical adaptation
Black has teased a sequel before, but has always backed away from his comments in later interviews, so fans shouldn’t get hopes too high. Any sequel would have to have the original rock students assume the role of parents, since they are largely in their 30s now.

Before he went on to make HBO’s hit series The White Lotus, Mike White would partner with Jack Black for the charmingly funny music-themed comedy School of Rock. The movie drew on Black’s affinity for the music genre as he would previously play as one-half of the rock duo Tenacious D with Kyle Glass. While he’s currently obsessed with Minecraft after his time filming the movie adaptation, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Black’s eager to return to the School of Rock for another movie.
According to THR, Black would recently speak with the publication Joe, when he said, “I wish there’d be a School of Rock 2 Electric Boogaloo.” Black would also love to see White return to write the movie, “You know Mike White wrote the first one and he’s a genius. Beware of major spoilers for "Argylle" in the following article.
If you catch "Argylle" in theaters this weekend, you'll be treated to a spy action blockbuster packed with so many twists and turns that you can't help but have a good time. Director Matthew Vaughn delivers some wild action sequences, and Sam Rockwell teamed with Bryce Dallas Howard is a surprisingly fantastic pairing. But when a movie has so many plot twists, there's bound to be some confusion. For example, there's a credits scene that might leave some scratching their head if they haven't been keeping up with the inspiration behind the movie. But besides that, the ending of "Argylle" blatantly sets up a sequel with a reveal that adds a new wrinkle to what is arguably the movie's biggest twist.

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

A singularly wacky moment in film history is poked in “Enter the Clones of Bruce.” It surveys the years immediately following Bruce Lee’s untimely 1973 death, when the sudden international thirst for martial arts movies that he’d awoken could seemingly only be slaked by the man himself — or by a host of imitators who popped up under lookalike pseudonyms.
David Gregory’s documentary won’t convince most viewers that the resulting flood of opportunistic cheapies are worth more extensive investigation. But they’re certainly cheesy fun in excerpt, and interviews with surviving participants provide an entertaining window into an anything-goes heyday for Hong Kong cinema. Premiering in Tribeca’s midnight section, this high-kicking flashback should appeal to the same fans who previously enjoyed such prior psychotronic excavations as “Not Quite Hollywood,” “Electric Boogaloo” or this director’s own prior investigations of cult figures Al Adamson and Richard Stanley.

In August of 2022, a clip from the "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" 2009 episode "The Great Recession" went viral. It was the scene where Mac and Dennis realize that Paddy Bucks, their self-created currency designed to beat the nationwide economic downturn, is a sham that they don't even understand. To call it funny is an understatement. It was attached to a tweet about crypto investors and the failing crypto market of 2022; to call the Paddy's Bucks clip prophetic is also an understatement.
This is the lasting appeal of Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton's groundbreaking Fxx show in microcosm. The half-hour comedy primarily set at Paddy's Pub is about the worst people on Earth. They do reprehensible things with startling frequency. Within their consistent awfulness, though, is an equally constant incisiveness about toxic masculinity, white supremacy, social structures, and the human condition at large. Paddy Bucks are just the tip of the comic iceberg.

As the Hollywood blockbuster machine continues to dust itself off and release some early winter hits, Hulu is going in a bit of a different direction with its list of new releases for November 2021.
There are no big Hulu original films of note this month. Instead there’s a whole host of original series. The TV parade starts on Nov. 5 with the release of Animaniacs season 2. Also getting a second season this month is monarchal comedy The Great on Nov. 19. The most intriguing series, however, is animated Marvel comedy Marvel’s Hit Monkey. As its name so graciously implies, this is a show about a hit monkey…as in monkey assassin. Naturally the hit monkey is haunted by the ghost of Jason Sudeikis because it’s important that everything make sense.
Though Hulu doesn’t have any original movies in November, its list of library movie titles is quite vast.

Emma Seligman’s impressive “Shiva Baby” (Utopia) premieres on Blu-ray this month, and it’s a blisteringly funny, character-based comedy about a young Danielle (played by Rachel Sennott) whose rootless life when she attends a shiva with her parents (Fred Melamed and Polly Draper), only to encounter the boyfriend who’s financially supporting her, his wife — whom Danielle didn’t know existed — and Danielle’s ex-girlfriend. It’s a full buffet of misunderstandings, awkward encounters, and scene-stealing character actors, with a cast that also includes Jackie Hoffman, Dianna Agron, and Molly Gordon.
Also available: A jaded clickbait reporter has an unforgettable encounter in the indie comedy “15 Things You Didn’t Know About Bigfoot” (Kino Lorber); over-the-hill kung fu disciples rouse themselves from mid-life torpor to avenge the death of their master in the martial-arts comedy “The Paper Tigers” (Well Go USA Entertainment).

“Avenging Force” is an underrated, overlooked, action extravaganza starring Michael Dudikoff and Steve James, which was produced between the first two “American Ninja” films. Released by the legendary, mini-studio, “The Cannon Group,” many die hard action fans consider this to be Michael Dudikoff’s onscreen tour de force. Sam Firstenberg agrees, and even believes this is his own best movie out of the 25 films he’s directed.
On the surface “Avenging Force” is a typical slam-bang, exploitation action flick, but the social/political themes of white supremacy and systemic racism are sadly much more relevant today than they were in 1986. The villains of the film, “The Pentangle,” are an extremist militant group of powerful elites that will destroy anyone that opposes their vision of what America should be.

If you watched an action, sci-fi, or horror movie in the 1980s, there was a good chance it was produced by Cannon Films. The studio — perhaps the last great home of B-movie and exploitation classics — was founded in 1967 but hit its apex between 1979 and 1987, releasing scores of films that (mostly) no one would call high cinema but which delivered thrills, chills and plenty of blood, action, and fire on a budget.
Tapping into the massive market for both high and low concept fare — the 1980s equivalent of drive-in double bill fillers — Cannon, under the leadership of Israeli cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, were perhaps best known for churning out chintzy crowdpleasers like the Chuck Norris-starring Missing in Action and The Delta Force along with a slew of Death Wish sequels.
But the company also produced titillating titles like Lady Chatterley’s Lover, slasher fare such as Schizoid and New Year’s Evil,...

A few days ago, Sam Firstenberg, the Israel-born movie director behind the '80s cult classics Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo and American Ninja, was scanning a newspaper when he couldn't believe his eyes.
"It's almost bizarre — a surrealistic situation," says Firstenberg, 70.
He read about a domestic, anti-U.S. government extremist movement that had sprouted in the dark recesses of the internet and, amid recent protests over coronavirus lockdowns and George Floyd's killing, has sprung terrifyingly to life.
And the movement named itself after one of his movies.

Three men with military backgrounds have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to instigate violence at the Las Vegas protests against the death of George Floyd.
According to authorities, Andrew Lynam Jr., 23, Stephen Parshall, 35, and William Loomis, 40, all met at an anti-lockdown protest in April and self-identified as “boogaloo” boys, a term used to describe those calling for a violent civil conflict. Rian Johnson got no writing done after people started suggesting ideas for the title of his upcoming Knives Out sequel
When Rian Johnson's critically acclaimed whodunnit Knives Out landed in theaters late last year, it didn't really seem like a film that needed a sequel.
Johnson had been tinkering with the concept for a long time, first coming up with the idea for Knives Out after he finished Brick back in 2005. The sublime murder-mystery tipped its hat to classic detective stories, as Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc solved the enigma of an aging patriarch's sudden demise, and boasted a spectacular cast that included Chris Evans - fresh off his run as Marvel's Captain America - Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Shannon. But as the story wrapped itself up in a neat little bow (no spoilers) by the end credits, surely that would be the...

2013’s Brad Pitt-fronted World War Z was the highest grossing zombie movie of all time, a fact I was not aware of 30 seconds prior to writing this sentence. Romping home with a handy $540 million gross, one would assume a sequel was in short order. As it turns out though, not exactly.
Director after director signed on for World War Z 2, only for various colours of conflicting arrangements to see them jump ship. Paramount finally pulled the plug on the film in February of last year, leaving it firmly in development hell. And if you think that leaves things looking hopeless for another round of Brad-fuelled zombie action, you’d be mostly right. But there is one glimmer of hope.

Who needs good taste when you have plenty of enthusiasm? Fantastic new documentary Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films charts the rise and fall of two movie-obsessed Israeli cousins - Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus - after buying a financially troubled American film studio in 1979.
The duo subsequently churned out some of the most iconic movies of the 1980s... but not necessarily on the strength of their artistic merit. Buy 'em cheap and pile them high was the initial ethos that led to titles like Hospital Massacre, Enter the Ninja and a plethora of increasingly exploitational Death Wish films. Yet occasional gems and cult classics like Runaway Train and Lifeforce emerged too, plus there's the title of a breakdancing movie sequel that entered popular culture - Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.
So many fascinating revelations emerge in the documentary surrounding the genesis, production and release of the films...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate is preparing a remake of the low-budget sci-fi thriller Cube. The remake will reportedly be called Cubed, and like the first Cube, will strand a small group of people inside a mysterious cube, which itself is made up of multiple smaller cubes, many of which contain razor-wire grids that turn people into human cubes. If Cubed is a success, expect a remake of Cube 2: Hypercube, the Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo of Canadian sci-fi.

Taken 3 Easily one of the worst movies of 2015 is coming home to DVD and Blu-ray this weekend. To quote my review, "No one cared. No one. Neeson cashed the check and good on him for that. If they want to continue making these things they better pay you."
Cake Jennifer Aniston got a lot of attention for not wearing any makeup in this movie. It almost earned her an Oscar nomination, now, you get to see what all the fuss was about. I personally never ended up seeing this movie. I just couldn't muster the energy or want to watch it. Here's the plot if you so desire: Jennifer Aniston plays Claire Bennett, who initiates a dubious relationship with a widower (Worthington) while confronting fantastical hallucinations of his dead wife (Kendrick). With her feisty housekeeper and caretaker (Barraza) ever at her side, Claire searches for human connection and self-forgiveness in this tale of redemption.

The rise and fall of Cannon Films is told in Mark Hartley's wildly entertaining documentary, Electric Boogaloo. Here's Ryan's review...
Producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus were famous (or infamous) for many things, but a stringent approach to quality filmmaking was hardly one of them. At the height of their success in the 1980s, the Israeli cousins, and their company Cannon Films, were synonymous with cheap B-movies of just about every kind: Chuck Norris action flicks, sex comedies, ninja martial arts epics, dance movies and tawdry slasher horrors.
Their films frequently horrified critics, but became a staple of video rental stores: with Cannon Films cranking out as many as 50 or so pictures a year at its peak, the company's distinctive logo and self-explanatory film titles (New Year's Evil, Avenging Force, Enter The Ninja) were ubiquitous throughout the 80s and early 90s. The company was eventually brought down by its fast-and-loose approach to film production,...

We love running across great questions around movies that make you stop and go, "Hmm." That's why we just had to bring up a question posed over on the endlessly entertaining io9, asking which sci-fi or fantasy movie you hate so much you feel compelled to watch it over and over again. Some great answers out of the nearly 1,000 comments include The Dark Knight Rises, the last three Star Wars movies, Star Trek Into Darkness, Prometheus and, well, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo. Ok then. Mine happens not to be sci-fi or fantasy: The Blues Brothers. I've seen it at least five times and still can't figure out why it's a classic. Check out the pretty hilarious answers on io9 and tell us below: What movie--of any genre--do you love to hate to watch (and...

Back in 2011, we first heard there were plans to remake Point Break (Point Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo? Too easy?), with a script written by Salt writer Kurt Wimmer. It appears the thing is finally moving forward, with the studio aiming to start production this summer. Invincible director Ericson Core is attached to direct. And The Hollywood Reporter writes that Gerard Butler is in talks to play Bodhi, the part played by Patrick Swayze in the original. Though the general plot will be the same, the new Point Break will be internationally set and focused on extreme sports in general, not just surfing. There's still looking for someone to play the Keanu Reeves part. Who could possibly fill his shoes, you know, other than the hundreds of people who've been able to do it, without rehearsing, at Point Break Live?...

You better watch Titanic, Top Gun and Braveheart while you can, because come 2014, Netflix will remove 80 films and a handful of TV shows from their streaming site.
According to Reddit, on New Year's Day, nearly 40 million streaming Netflix subscribers will no longer be able to watch some of the classic films and TV shows that have been so readily available in the past. Instead, they will have to join the seven million DVD subscribers and order their films to come in the mail.

A major downside of VOD services compared with having a vast Blu-ray or DVD library is timing. Services like Netflix, Hulu, etc. have contracts with content providers - contracts that expire usually around the end of a calendar year unless otherwise renewed.
Thus from January 1st, certain films will no longer be available on that service to watch when you want. Anchorman 2, the sequel to the 2004 cult classic, returns Will Ferrell as the thick-headed but carefully quaffed Ron Burgundy.
'Anchorman 2' Returns With Ron Burgundy
It’s now the 80s and Ron and Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) are co-anchoring a show together in New York City. Marital and career trouble ensues for the anchorman when his wife gets a promotion and he gets the slip. With old pals weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carrell), ladies’ man Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner), Ron endeavors to wage a comeback with a 24-hour news channel.
The Anchorman sequel was highly anticipated with massive expectations. Overall, critics are relatively satisfied with what Farrell and director Adam McKay brought to the screen for the second go around of the comedy premise.
Critics Review 'Anchorman' Sequel

"The Amazing Spider-Man" has been taking the box office by storm. Since opening on July 3, the film has made $75.5 million domestically, and could eventually compete with the Sam Raimi trilogy for top Spidey franchise. However, while the Tobey Maguire-starring "Spider-Man" films are praised by both critics and audiences, they were not the first attempt to get the friendly neighborhood superhero onto the big screen. Over the last three decades, there have been several versions of "Spider-Man" that almost came to be: from a corny B-movie to an R-rated epic from James Cameron. Moviefone takes a look back at the "Spider-Man" moves that almost happened. A "Spider-Man" Monster Movie, directed by Tobe Hooper ("Texas Chainsaw Massacre") The first studio to acquire the rights to "Spider-Man" was Cannon Films (the people behind '80s fare like "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo," "Masters of the Universe" and "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

In 1992, Ice-t was considered a menace to society. His band, Body Count, had just released the song "Cop Killer," which drew the ire of law enforcement agents, the NRA and even President George H. W. Bush. Groups tried to ban his album, Tipper Gore condemned him in public, and he was almost barred from playing a concert in New Zealand. But, as is the case with most rap-related controversies, the situation soon blew over into nothing more than a small (though no less important) footnote in hip-hop history. Since then, Ice-t has spent most of his time acting in films and television, including a recurring role as -- fittingly -- a detective on "Law and Order: Svu." Now, twenty years after "Cop Killer," the actor/rapper is returning to his roots (minus the controversy). This Friday, Ice's directorial debut, "Something From Nothing: The Art of Rap," hits theaters. The documentary...

Five Transformative Dance Scenes in Movies Movement. Grace. Muppets. By Alex Heigl Ah, dance. Human emotion rendered in pure movement. It can inspire, entertain, provide emotional closure, or grant much-needed catharsis. And with a remake of Footloose coming out this week, what better time to celebrate its powers? While sadly devoid of Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo (thanks to a Nerve office ban on the word "boogaloo"), this profoundly serious list aims to illustrate some of the classic moments in film where dance has served to lift us beyond our sad mortal form to a more transcendent state. 5. The Mask This scene marks a turning point in this highly underrated psychological drama that launched the career of the American Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz. Jim Carrey's Stanley Ipkiss spends the first part of the film as a stammering nobody, until he pulls a crude wooden mask from a river [...]...

Ice-t; most people know him best now as Detective Fin Tutuola on Law & Order: Svu or if you're a hip-hop fan, like myself, you'll always remember him as one of the pioneers of "gangsta" rap before there was even a term for it. A lot of us even dig his surprisingly eclectic film career. He's been in movies as diverse as New Jack City, Surviving the Game, Tank Girl, Johnny Mnemonic and Leprechaun in the Hood.
However, it's his very early foray into the world of films that I want to focus on in this installment of Trailer Trash.
Before Ice-t had even released a record, he began to gain notoriety as a rapper and songwriter, in large part due to his work in motion pictures. While a lot of his early 80's film work can be considered corny and laughable by today's standards and a far cry from the...

Numbered sequels are out of fashion, and titles are getting longer and more ungainly as a result. We chart the rise and rise of the dreaded colon in movie names…
As we established a few weeks ago, sequels have been around in one form or another since the dawn of filmmaking itself, and in an indirect way, Johannes Gutenberg is to blame. But in the course of researching that article, it became apparent that the way sequels are named has changed considerably over the decades.
While the titles of films like The Son Of Kong and The Return Of The Pink Panther made a reference back to the names of their predecessors, the habit of simply slapping a number or numeral after a title didn’t really begin until the 50s and 70s, with the films Quatermass 2 and The Godfather Part II.
Movie producers gradually dropped the word ‘part...
