Joseph Kahn is cornering the market on 2000s-kid horror. Ick is a fast-paced, pop-punk blasting remix of The Blob meets Invasion of the Body Snatchers with sweetened gateway intentions. Those who adore Kahn's Detention (like myself) might feel a spiritual connection, especially with an Aaron David Johnson cameo (Sander Sanderson himself). Like with most Kahn flicks, you'll quickly determine if you're the correct audience for the prolific music video director's energetic styles. Those who don't mind twenty different needle drops in three minutes will bop along as a nondescript entity doubles as suburbia malaise. Khan's four-for-four (in my opinion), but I'm also a sucker for an A+ Creed drop.

When Byron Allen was just 14, he started doing stand-up comedy. Four years later, in 1979, he became the youngest comedian to appear on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.” It was a launching pad for an entertainment career that included a stint on “Real People,” a lead role in “Case Closed,” a TV movie he co-wrote and a syndicated late-night show bearing his name.
But all along, Allen had his eyes on a much bigger prize. “Growing up in Detroit, I was fascinated by Berry Gordy and Henry Ford,” says Allen. “I read about them and about John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie. They were my heroes. I studied them and knew I wanted to build something big and iconic. That was always my desire.”
That something proved to be Allen Media Group, which encompasses Entertainment Studios (founded 30 years ago as Cf Entertainment) and its expanding portfolio — the company owns 10 cable networks,...

Celebrities taking private jets to and from different events is nothing new. But when high-profile people like Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle do, it makes news since they claim to be eco-activists. The duke is even the founder of a sustainable travel initiative called Travalyst. Therefore, the Sussexes have been blasted as “hypocrites” after reports surfaced that they hitched a ride on a private jet with a few other celebs who attended Katy Perry’s concert to close out her residency in Las Vegas on Nov. 4. Other stars on the airliner included Zoe Saldana, and Cameron Diaz and her husband Benji Madden.
Now, a royal expert is finding irony in Meghan and Harry flying with Madden because a certain Good Charlotte tune could be their “theme song.”

Plot: A nearly bankrupt funeral home owner (Tommy Lee Jones) is screwed in a deal by an unscrupulous, corporately run competitor. He enlists the aid of a flashy personal injury lawyer (Jamie Foxx) in a court case that blows the lid off of dishonest practices in the industry.
Review: Maggie Betts’ The Burial was the biggest surprise of this year’s TIFF. Set for a limited, one-week run in theatres on October 6th before making its streaming debut on Prime Video on October 13th, it feels like the streamer doesn’t really know what a high-quality film they have on their hands. Based on the true story of Jeremiah Joseph O’Keefe (Jones), a kindly, honest funeral home owner who was nearly bankrupted by a massive corporate competitor, the Loewen Group, it’s a highly entertaining David vs. Goliath tale that has two potentially award-worthy performances at its heart.

While it’s easy to imagine lawyers screaming “objection, your honor!” to the exaggerated courtroom theatrics of “The Burial,” good luck convincing audiences that this David v. Goliath legal showdown between a small-time Southern funeral home operator and an unethical Canadian billionaire should have played out any other way. Demonstrating talents far beyond her 2017 indie debut, “The Novitiate,” director Maggie Betts has a rousing old-school crowd-pleaser on her hands with this truth-based (albeit strategically embellished) drama featuring the most entertaining performance yet from Jamie Foxx, who makes a day in court feel like going to church.
Foxx plays Willie E. Gary, a Southern Baptist personal injury lawyer who channels the spirit of evangelical preachers every time he practices law — hardly the counsel you’d expect to see representing Jeremiah “Jerry” O’Keefe (Tommy Lee Jones), a 75-year-old business owner in Biloxi, Miss. The Borat star tried to get Simpson to open up about the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown on Sunday night's season finale. Guys, I have no freakin’ clue what is going on here. In all my years as executive vice-president of development at the Real Housewives Institute, I have never seen a change quite like this. Last week, the episode seemed boring, with all the Housewives focused on their own lives and just sort of swanning around in their fabulosity like a 4-year-old girl spins around in her princess dress to watch the skirt puff up. There was no fighting (mostly), there was little interaction between the women, there was no group gathering, and there was nothing to indicate that this was a Real Housewives program and not Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous or an episode of Cribs that somehow didn’t feature any rappers. But last night’s episode was the same way. “We had it too easy for too long.”
Grimm‘s Silas Weir Mitchell is fondly recalling Monroe and Rosalee’s Season 3, Aka the lead-up to their Wesen wedding. It’s a measure of how rough life is about to get for the newlyweds — a wolfy Blutbad and a foxy Fuchsbau — that their somewhat fraught path to the altar seems like a cakewalk in comparison.

Give a pay raise to whomever paired the Law & Order: Svu/Chicago P.D. crossover event with a special Voice outing, because NBC had a very good night as a result.
The Voice‘s results show led things off with 10.6 million total viewers and a 2.5 demo rating (per finals), down from its Tuesday playoff tallies but improving hugely on Mysteries of Laura‘s most recent performance in the time slot (7.9 mil/1.3). Leading out of that, Svu drew 10 mil and a 2.4, surging 43 and 50 percent to net its largest audience in nearly four years its best rating since last fall’s opener.

Who would know better about the lifestyles of the rich and famous than Nick Cannon. The soon to be ex-husband of Mariah Carey has lived a privileged life due to his own work and his marriage. Now he is teaming up with NBC to bring back the former show, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. The former 90s show (not related to Good Charlotte’s old song) gave us an inside look of rich peoples homes. The show previous had a good run but ended a few years before reality TV became big. Nick will show the homes from his Pov and it will also give charity coverage of those uber wealthy people. No word on when we can expect the show to return.
I am happy for Nick, since he will likely need a high profile job to stay on top. Without being tied to Mariah, he needs to...

The Voice, despite its rep as a feel-good, even-the-losers-win kinda party, is essentially the slasher film of the reality singing-competition genre.
Indeed, you don’t want to get too attached too quickly to any of the young pretties who make their way to the red-chair zone. After all, in the last month alone, Season 7′s Top 48 has been sliced, hacked, garotted and bludgeoned down to a lean, mean dozen finalists.

Scott Disick was only slightly better than Kendall Jenner when it came to reading a teleprompter ... for his big audition to host the new "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous."TMZ got hold of the audition tape -- shot last year -- for the panned Style Network show. It's painful to watch his deer-in-the-headlights read. At one point his pitch gets so high you can almost hear the fine china break in the dining room hutch.

Looking back over the year at what films moved and impressed us, it is clear that watching old films is a crucial part of making new films meaningful. Thus, the annual tradition of our end of year poll, which calls upon our writers to pick both a new and an old film: they were challenged to choose a new film they saw in 2013—in theaters or at a festival—and creatively pair it with an old film they also saw in 2013 to create a unique double feature.
All the contributors were given the option to write some text explaining their 2013 fantasy double feature. What's more, each writer was given the option to list more pairings, with or without explanation, as further imaginative film programming we'd be lucky to catch in that perfect world we know doesn't exist but can keep dreaming of every time we go to the movies.

What the critics thought of The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan, The Letters of John F Kennedy edited by Martin W Sandler, A Story Lately Told by Anjelica Huston
"The Valley of Amazement doesn't waste any time. The long opening sentence leads us quickly into the only high-class courtesan house in Shanghai run by a white woman, where innumerable complications soon arise. Amy Tan maintains the pace skilfully as we follow the story of three generations of women, spanning the transition from dynastic rule to the early 20th century and travelling from Shanghai to San Francisco and on to a remote village deep in the mountains of China." Krys Lee in the Ft welcomed Tan's sixth novel, and pointed out that although the author has been "accused of exoticising her Asian roots, particularly by Asian readers", and although The Valley of Amazement "can indeed be seen as romanticising cliches...
