Lovely semi-documentary

The titular Spider Murphy Gang, a rock band in Munich well-known for their lyrics in Bavarian German, actually existed (and still does, 1977-). Their most successful time was 1981-85, and in 1983 they made this fun movie, as well as a concert tour through then East Germany, of which there is also a TV documentary that I watched today.

Four young men playing Rock 'n' Roll - they're probably not in the same league with The Beatles. But I felt strongly reminded of A Hard Day's Night when watching this. Although, Night is more a show of when the Beatles were already close to the top of popularity, while this film is more about the nitty-gritty beginnings. And possibly more of a comedy, involving city bureaucracy, collapsing vans, the evil yet helpful manager (wheelchair-bound, but quite mobile, deliciously played by Hans Brenner), and much much more. The climax was the concert at Circus Krone, but my favorite sequence is the Wiener sausages party in the tram at the end - made me deliriously feel good.

The pic is on the bonus disk that comes with the 25th anniversary concert (2002). Highly recommended. 9/10.
