After a decade of era defining American high school comedies (mostly from John Hughes) and tawdry, derivative innuendo-heavy teen sex farces like Porky’s, Meatballs, Beach Balls, Screwballs and Oddballs etc., in 1989 director Michael Lehmann and writer Daniel Waters warped the teen high school comedy with their feature debut, Heathers. This cutting, provocative slice of poisoned cherry pie had cult written all over it from the outset with its weaving of provocative themes such as teen suicide, mass murder and psychosis into the fabric of the high school comedy. Heathers was nothing like anything that had come before it. Aside from its critical success and fast growing fan-base, Lehmann and Waters’ debut left a minimal dent in the box office; raking in just $177, 247 on its opening weekend, despite doing well later on VHS.

Producer Maurice Smith has confirmed that his 1983 R-rated comedy feature classic "Screwballs" will receive a special screening celebrating 'The Summer of '83' @ Austin's Alamo Drafthouse June 2, 2013:
"...Canada in the early 80's was a magical place. Due to radical tax shelter legislation that allowed a 100% write-off for all homegrown films, their entertainment industry was flourishing...they were making incredible genre movies like you might make a meal.
"One of the greatest genres to benefit from this golden age of film financing was the teenage sex comedy...
"Melding the zany comedy of "Animal House", the single-minded sex obsession of "Porky's" and the flourish of "Meatballs", movies like "Oddballs" delighted the young everywhere.
"Standing tall at the top of all the Canadian sex 'balls' movies is the totally insane "Screwballs", an astonishing compilation of comedic segments..."

When I was a kid my dad used to have tapes upon tapes of movies he had taped off TV, typically uncut and usually filled with all the “goodies” Case in point, Screwballs. Screwballs was recorded in LP format and came just after Caddyshack. While I’m not entirely sure how I was allowed to watch the uncut, non-television purified version of Caddyshack at as twelve, well I thank my lucky stars that dear old mum never figured it out. At the time I didn’t know that Roger Corman was in anyway associated with the picture. Figures. Giant, low budget monster movies and loosely based Edgar Allen Poe adaptations certainly give way to comedic representations of large ta ta’s pirouetting across the screen like sugar plum fairies on LSD. So for the boobs. For the sense of humor grown by repeated viewings of said film. For the VHS...

Interviewed for the features-loaded new DVD of the post-Porky’s hit Screwballs, “Canuxsploitation” scholar Paul Corupe refers to the film as “the Third Man of ’80s sex comedies”—an assertion that isn’t as outrageous as it sounds. Just as audiences spent a good part of The Third Man waiting for Harry Lime, Corupe reasons, drive-in horndogs also fervently awaited the comeuppance of campus tease Purity Busch (Linda Speciale), who lives to drive the boys crazy while flaunting her moral rectitude. Lime’s first appearance is one of the great entrances in movie history, yet in its own ultra-crude ...

After many years of false starts (and announcements), Richard Stanley’s sci-fi/horror cult classic Hardware is finally set to make its U.S. DVD debut, and will appear on Blu-ray as well. Fango got the scoop that Severin Films will release the film on extras-packed discs this fall.
Hardware stars Stacey Travis as a woman living in a postapocalyptic future who is given some robot scraps by scavenger Dylan McDermott; the pieces soon reconfigure themselves into a murderous robot, with plenty of bloodshed ensuing. Trimmed to avoid an X rating by original distributor Miramax for its 1990 release, the movie will be presented in uncut, uncensored form, transferred from Stanley’s personal print. Extras will include:
• Audio commentary
• Deleted scenes
• Behind-the-scenes footage
• Stanley’s never-before-seen hour-long Super 8 version
And possibly more; retail price info and cover art are coming soon. “They say, ‘Once in every generation a plague shall fall upon you,...
