For some of us, The Green Knight is among the most heavily anticipated movies of the summer. Coming from the mind of David Lowery, director of A Ghost Story, Pete’s Dragon and more, this is an adaptation of the classic fable “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight”, one of the classic Arthurian tales. It was previously adapted to film in a very schlocky Cannon movie Sword of the Valiant: The Legend of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, which cast a painted green Sean Connery…...

A24 has released the first trailer for “The Green Knight,” a medieval fantasy with giants, talking foxes and a brave knight played by Dev Patel.
Directed by David Lowery, the upcoming fantasy film will tell the story of Sir Gawain (Patel), King Arthur’s headstrong nephew and Knight of the Round Table, who embarks on a quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight (Ralph Ineson), a gigantic green-skinned stranger.
Based on the 14th-century poem “Sir Gawain and the Green Knight,” Gawain will come face-to-face with ghosts, giants, thieves and schemers, all while learning to define his own character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and the kingdom.
“And what do you hope to gain in facing all of this?” Joel Edgerton’s kingly character named Lord asks of Sir Gawain in the trailer.
“Honor,” Gawain answers. “That is why a knight does what he does.”

From 1980 until 1994, The Cannon Group was responsible for the production of more than 200 films. Quantity, rather than quality, was the key to Cannon’s game: their output included many of the 1980s’ most beloved (and notorious) b-movies. Along the way they dipped their toes into every imaginable genre of movies, made stars out of Chuck Norris and Michael Dudikoff, kicked off the ninja and breakdancing crazes, and kept Charles Bronson working into the twilight of his career. It's funny how certain quirky films from your childhood stand out. Films that for most would be forgettable but are indelible burned into your brain. Personally, movies like Krull and Ice Pirates spring to mind. Another one that would probably be right at home on JoBlo's "Awfully Good" segment was 1984's Sword Of The Valiant. A remake of the 1973 film Gawain…...

Production spend in Ireland rose by 162% to €357 million ($395 million) in 2019, according to the country’s TV, film and animation agency Screen Ireland.
Inward investment projects such as Netflix’s “Nightflyers,” BBC3 and Hulu drama “Normal People,” Apple TV Plus sci-fi series “Foundation,” and feature film “The Green Knight” accounted for €261 million (€289 million) of the overall production spend, around two thirds of the total.
The animation sector in particular has seen its annual production activity rise strongly, increasing fourfold in the last 10 years, to €180 million ($199 million) in 2019. This includes upcoming animated feature “Wolfwalkers,” from the Academy Award winning studio Cartoon Saloon.
Chair of Screen Ireland Annie Doona said that Ireland’s screen production sector has more than doubled in the last decade, and that all the major streaming giants are now among production partners. “The full restoration of Screen Ireland’s annual funding and the ongoing commitment to Section 481 tax incentives are critical to this success,...

The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table receives its most impressive screen treatment in Excalibur, from visionary director John Boorman (Deliverance, Hope and Glory).
All the elements of Sir Thomas Malory’s classic Le Morte Darthur are here: Arthur (Nigel Terry) removing the sword Excalibur from the stone; the Round Table’s noble birth and tragic decline; the heroic attempts to recover the Holy Grail; and the shifting balance of power between wily wizard Merlin (Nicol Williamson) and evil sorceress Morgana (Helen Mirren).
With Patrick Stewart, Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson in notable early screen roles, Excalibur serves up “one lush, enraptured scene after another.” (The New Yorker)
