Eric plays Eric
mjwillmets17 September 2005
A road map would have helped with the plot. The sole redeeming feature of the entire film is Eric Burdon. I believe he has little or no professional training so he simply plays himself. A better plot and director may have produced something of a classic but sadly, that was not the case.

It was if there was more going on that advertised so don't leave the room then "comeback" because you will think someone changed the channel. Worth a watch for Eric and the camera work which also has strength.

The music is a great example of Eric's work while he has been in exile after being blacklisted by the power brokers of the American music industry.

Just one more waste of Eric Burdon's fabulous talent

Just one more waste of Eric Burdon's fabulous talent.

This is the most schlockey film I have ever seen, considering it features Eric Burdon, who in my opinion is history's greatest singer, (and who is also potentially one of the world's finest natural actors, and a perpetually cool dude.) Now, Eric, I was always your number 1 fan, my man. You even influenced my entire career. I have always said that you have been largely underused and undercredited for a person of your enormous impact on the world.

But this film lacks momentum, direction, or even a shred of decency. The theme was a great idea, that of the fading rock star making a comeback. All the songs in the film are superb, except for some that I found unusually vulgar. If Eric had stuck with his great voice, deep soul, and vividly creative lyrics, he would not have need to resort to smutty songs to make a point.

The photography is actually quite good, with consistent quality filming, lighting, balance, etc. But there are long scenes that make little sense, as if someone forgot to turn off the camera.

One redeeming feature is Eric's tender expressions of love toward his little daughter in the film. I did not know that side of him, and was glad to see it.

Eric deserves a grander vehicle for showcasing his immeasurable talent. I couldn't even tell at whom this film was directed: it seems to start out in the gutter and wants to die there, with gutter snipes. What about Eric's vast audience of decent movie-going and song-digging people? They were not considered when this tripe was made.

For the first time in my life, I have to turn away from a work by my lifelong hero, Eric Burdon.

One of the best music films ever made

"Comeback" starring the world's greatest singer, Eric Burdon. It took me a long time to see this movie. Finally I got it. I saw some music clips on Youtube from this clip and read how many songs this movie features and I thought it's impossible to get all these songs in 100 minutes. In fact, they put more songs in it than I expected. Burdon is singing throughout the story, on stage and there is many soundtrack anyway.

The acting is very natural and the story is about music business, wishes for freedom, sex, drugs and much more. Burdon plays Rocco and goes through the hell in this movie, like he did in his musical career.

The story and the actors have many faces, it's an art film with touches of a mainstream motion picture.

The most important songs are "Sweet Blood Call", "Who Gives A F**k", "The Road", "It Hurts Me Too", "Crawling King Snake", "Bird On The Beach" ( a song about freedom etc.), "You Can't Kill My Spirit". Other songs included are "House of the Rising Sun", "Take it Easy", Streetwalker" and many, many more.

Other well-known actors are Julie Carmen, Michael Cavanaugh and Dan van Husen.

"When you're dead, you're great". It's a real great and hard to get movie, buy it if you have the chance to.....
