To prepare for her role as a drug addicted prostitute in this film, actress Judy Davis went to live in King's Cross, the red-light district of Sydney, Australia. There, Davis familiarized herself with the environs of the hookers and drug addicts who frequented the region.
This feature film was originally rejected for funding and finance by the relevant Australian government film body when it was originally submitted during the late 1970s.
Actress Judy Davis once said of her character Lou in this film: "Lou talks pretty rough. She's had a bit of a junk habit, an abortion, a marriage along the way that didn't work. She's uneducated, and simply can't find her way in society."
