‘Drag Me to Hell’ – New Australian Blu-ray Celebrates 15 Years of Sam Raimi’s Horror Return [Review]
Of all the masters of horror that helped to reshape the genre as we know it in the ’70s and ’80s, none were more successful in branching out and achieving commercial success within the studio system than Sam Raimi. His Spider-Man trilogy laid the groundwork for the influx of comic book movies that would follow, but he was eager to return to his roots following the third installment’s turbulent production.
Armed with $30 million and complete creative control, Raimi dusted off a story he wrote with elder brother and frequent collaborator Ivan Raimi back in the ’90s to make his triumphant return to horror with Drag Me to Hell in 2009. The Raimi broters seemingly drew inspiration from 1957’s Night of the Demon but injected it with a heavy dose of Evil Dead DNA, most closely evoking Evil Dead 2‘s cartoonish blend of over-the-top splatter and tongue-in-cheek humor.

A few years ago, Scream Factory gave the 1988 film Pumpkinhead (watch it Here) a special edition Blu-ray release, including a limited edition steelbook. Now they’re gearing up to bring Pumpkinhead to 4K on October 10th, and a standalone 4K and Blu-ray combo pack is available for pre-order from the Scream Factory website. If you want to go a bit fancier, there’s also a collector’s edition with a poster, prism sticker, lobby cards, and enamel pins that can be purchased through the Scream Factory website. Scream Factory is also teaming up with Best Buy for a Best Buy exclusive steelbook of the 4K release, and that can be pre-ordered on the Best Buy website.

The Bloody Disgusting-powered Screambox is home to a variety of unique horror content, from originals and exclusives to cult classics and documentaries. With such a rapidly-growing library, there are many hidden gems waiting to be discovered.
Here are five recommendations you can stream on Screambox right now.
Night of the Demon
Not to be confused with the 1957 film of the same name (also on Screambox), 1980’s Night of the Demon is an unforgettable Bigfoot experience. It’s no surprise that the gory exploitation flick was prosecuted as a “video nasty” by the British Board of Film Classification upon its initial release. It’s best remembered for a scene in which Bigfoot rips off a guy’s manhood — and that’s not even the most outrageous death scene!
The cheesefest plays like an early slasher, but instead of a masked killer lurking in the woods, it’s a guy in a cheap gorilla costume.

After making The Third Saturday in October Part V, the fifth entry in a non-existent series, what do you do for a follow-up? If you’re writer/director Jay Burleson you make The Third Saturday in October and give your faux franchise a starting point.
After a text crawl telling us what we’re about to see is based on a true story we launch into the story of serial killer Jakkariah “Jack” Harding who we see meeting his fate in the electric chair. Witnessing his execution are Ricky Dean Logan and Vicki Newton both of whom lost loved ones to Harding.
Unfortunately when they go to the cemetery to see him put six feet under they see something much worse.

Hey everyone! We have one last batch of horror and sci-fi home media releases headed our way before the end of the month, and this week’s offerings are massive, with well over 20 titles coming out on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD this Tuesday alone.
One of my favorite creature features ever is getting some love in HD finally, with Scream Factory’s 4K release of Lewis Teague’s Alligator (and its sequel is headed to Blu-ray this week as well), and the horror comedy Dead Heat is also getting a 4K upgrade. For all you giallo fans out there, Forgotten Gialli: Volume 3 is being released tomorrow and features three more Italian classics genre fans are going to want to own, and Severin Films is keeping busy with a ton of titles this week too: Bloody Pit of Horror, Black Candles, Night of the Demon, and The Halfway House.

It takes almost half the film to figure out if Justin Dec’s directorial debut, “Countdown,” is seriously being serious. The film aspires to belong in the small but noteworthy horror subgenre about killer curses, right alongside Jacques Tourneur’s “Night of the Demon” and Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me To Hell,” but this time it’s about a killer cell phone app. Yes, really.
The titular “Countdown” app is very simple: you download it to your phone, and it gives you a countdown that reveals when you’re going to die. Most people find out they’ve got decades left to live and go on about their days. But some people find out they’ve only got a few days, or even hours, so they freak out and try to change their destiny.
That’s when the demons come after you — when nobody’s looking, of course, and only in spooky hallways and bathrooms.

If any author to have existed within our lifetime can lay claim to having a fair amount of their work adapted to cinema, it’s most definitely Stephen King. Granted, his books are amazing in their own right, but there’s something doubly cool about seeing them brought to life.
Of course, Mr. King is just like the rest of us when you get down to it, as he does enjoy taking in a good movie when he has the free time to spare. And when it comes to a mind such as his, it’s expected that folks be curious to learn which flicks he digs most.
Believe it or not, no less than 22 recommendations have been given by the legendary scribe in recent interviews. So without further ado, here they are:
The Autopsy of Jane Doe – André Øvredal, 2016
The Blair Witch Project – Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, 1999

Irish actor Cummins never quite conquered Hollywood but she made her mark in the 1950 film noir classic, as well as cult horror Night of the Demon
Irish actor Peggy Cummins, who left her mark as the brazen femme fatale in the film noir Gun Crazy, has died aged 92, having suffered a stroke. She died in a London hospital on 29 December, surrounded by family, her friend Dee Kirkwood told the Hollywood Reporter.
Cummins, who was born in Prestatyn, Wales, began acting as a child, having been spotted at a tram stop in Dublin by a theatre owner. She made her debut on the London stage aged 13. After a stint in British cinema, in 1945 she went to Hollywood, where Darryl F Zanuck, head of 20th Century Fox, cast her as the lead in Otto Preminger’s Forever Amber. “Fox made a big splash for me when I came over. Want to enhance your horror movie? Make sure you sign up a cat...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
This feature contains broad spoilers for several horror movies featuring cats, including Alien, Cat People, Drag Me To Hell, Fallen, A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night, Pet Sematary and The Voices.
The relationship between humans and cats over time has given way to a number of cultural impressions and outright superstitions. Ancient Egyptians associated them with gods. In the Middle Ages, they were linked with witches and killed en masse, which probably hastened the spread of the Black Plague through the rodent population. And in the modern day, it's interchangeably lucky or not if a black cat crosses your path.
Like anything with such a wide array of symbolic links, movies have presented cats as characters in different ways over the years. It's their abiding...

Every time a new Bigfoot hoax makes headlines, I do the Hammer Dance on my front porch then call everyone I know before it’s debunked. Yet each time I revisit Night of the Demon, my busting lust for sharing a world with Sasquatch withers like a raisin and dies crying. If this is how a Bigfoot will behave if and when one of us finally crosses its path, then I’ll have a lot of explaining to do for the firm Pro-Foot stance I’ve maintained over the years.
Indeed, we’re not discussing the beloved 1957 Night of the Demon which was about an actual demon. Today, we’re examining the rabid Bigfoot-Rape film from 1980 that was wicked enough to join the ranks of the other persecuted titles on the Video Nasties list. Now that we understand each other, feel free to jump out or come along – you won’t be judged.
