Maynard James Keenan is helping Mike Tyson get in shape for his upcoming boxing match against Jake Paul. That’s right, the Tool singer and his colleagues at his Verde Valley Bjj martial arts school have been training Iron Mike in advance of the July 20th bout.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Tyson will take on YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with the fight being streamed live on Netflix. Now, Keenan has revealed that Tyson began his training program at the singer’s martial arts center in Cottonwood, Arizona.
The rock vocalist posted a photo of himself and his wife, Lei Li Keenan, alongside Tyson on Instagram (see below), with the caption, “Honored to have @miketyson grace our small town academy, @verdevalleybjj. The Pixies have parted ways with bassist Paz Lenchantin after a decade-long run with the band. They’ll be joined by former Band of Skulls bassist Emma Richardson when they kick off a European tour on March 8 in Dublin, Ireland.
The news of Lenchantin’s exit from the group came via a curiously dry statement from the group. “We’re grateful for Paz’s many contributions,” they wrote, “and wish her all the very best going forward.”

A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and Failure have announced a joint live album, Cinquanta, recorded during a 2014 show celebrating the 50th birthday of Maynard James Keenan.
A known prankster, Maynard took the opportunity to grace us with some truly, um, noteworthy artwork, appearing as an adult baby — diaper and all — on the cover of the live album. Puscifer have had some ridiculous sleeves over the years, but this might be the most outrageous one yet.
Presented as a double album, the actual recordings were culled from a performance on May 10th, 2014, at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles when Puscifer, A Perfect Circle, and Failure shared the stage to celebrate Keenan’s 50th. Cinquanta is set to release on March 22nd on vinyl (in multiple colorways) and CD, but online pre-orders appear to already be sold out, so you’ll have to check with your local record store (per Puscifer’s Linktree).

It may be difficult to think of a film series that is more aesthetically dated than the "Underworld" movies, and I include certain century-old silent movies in that statement. The first "Underworld" film was released in the fall of 2003, and it was infused with all the genre trappings of its era. The long black leather coats, the blue-tinted photography, the use of slow-motion, and the stoic-yet-capable badass heroes all reek of post-"Matrix" malaise, appealing only to young people who were 16 in September of 2003. What's more, the film's soundtrack featured some terrible metal tunes that old-world metalheads found to be shrill and whiny. Sorry, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer, and The Icarus Line.
The premise of "Underworld" sounds fun on paper, but the bleak, steely tone of the movie made the movie less-than-fun to watch. For centuries, vampires and werewolves — called Lycans — have been at war, killing each other out of sight from the human world.

As my 13-year-old son and I browsed a Buffalo, NY, record shop on a recent Saturday morning, his eyes were drawn to two action figures dangling from the wall. Both were from the popular ReAction toy line, known for its delightfully offbeat takes on pop-culture icons as diverse as Joe Strummer, Megan Rapinoe, Jimi Hendrix, the Creature From the Black Lagoon, and late Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. The two figures my son grabbed confounded him even more than the Dee Snider hanging nearby. One of them was an intense, glasses-sporting figure brandishing a whip while wearing a red flower pot on his head. The other clutched a guitar while wearing shades and a yellow jumpsuit. “Devo,” I said happily, while starting to ponder this most unique and easily identifiable group.
What’s with the outfits? How did this band become so iconic? What did they do beyond “Whip It”? These are legitimate questions,...

Refresh For Updates Costars and fans alike remembered Charles Grodin today as one of film’s funniest actors and TV’s most compelling personalities. “So sad to hear,” tweeted Steve Martin, who appeared alongside Grodin in the 1984 comedy The Lonely Guy. “One of the funniest people I ever met…”
“A brilliant comedy actor,” tweeted Albert Brooks. “I had the wonderful experience of working with him in my first feature ‘Real Life’ and he was amazing. Rest In Peace, Chuck.”
Grodin, who appeared in such films as Midnight Run, The Heartbreak Kid, Beethoven, The Great Muppet Caper and on TV as a favored guest of Johnny Carson and David Letterman, died today of bone marrow cancer at his home in Connecticut.
“I loved Charles Grodin so much,” tweeted Kathy Griffin. “He would bust my balls and give me so much shit in a way that left me no choice but to giggle with glee.

Charles Grodin, best known for the neurotic comic wit he demonstrated in such films as “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “Midnight Run” and for his role in the “Beethoven” movies, died Tuesday at his home in Connecticut. He was 86.
The New York Times reported that his son said he died of bone marrow cancer.
After getting his start in television, Grodin graduated to both leading and character roles in motion pictures, usually portraying the exasperated urban neurotic. His dry, understated sense of humor also made him a perfect talkshow guest, and later, host of his own cable show. Grodin also wrote plays and books.
The wry 1972 comedy “The Heartbreak Kid,” written by Neil Simon and directed by Elaine May, highlighted Grodin’s trademark neurotic befuddlement, and won him a Golden Globe nomination. But it was one of the few successful films in his career in which he was center stage.

Claudia Weill is a director whose work meant so much to me at such a formative age that I was almost hesitant to interview her; the two features she directed, Girlfriends (1978) and It’s My Turn (1980) spoke to me on such a profoundly personal level that I feared speaking with her could only be a disappointing experience—either because she wouldn’t live up to my image of her or because I would be so intimidated that I’d turn into a blabbering idiot. One of Weill’s many talents is to create work so intimate and precise that it always feels like […]

Monday Update, writethru after Sunday 11:12Am post: Big news this weekend out of Japan where anime adaptation Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train shattered all-time opening records. The film, which debuted on Friday October 16, as opposed to the usual Saturday/Sunday session, grossed $44M (4.623B yen) across the three-day. It is the global box office leader this weekend and Japan’s biggest launch in industry history.
This is a stunning debut which we hear commandeered 84% of the market with exits at 4.5 out of 5 stars. Putting the opening into some perspective, Frozen 2 last year launched to a 3-day of $18.2M at historical rates. Demon Slayer also set a new IMAX record, opening 18% bigger in the format than previous champ Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, to become the top IMAX Japan opener ever with $2.27M (238M yen) from 38 screens. Grosses increased incrementally over the weekend for IMAX.

While Universal’s Dolittle and Warner Bros’ reissue of Interstellar were the big kahunas in China this weekend, Russell Crowe-starrer Unhinged hit the road in 19 new markets over the session. Among them, the UK, Australia, Netherlands and New Zealand where the Solstice Studios pic was No. 1. They joined Germany which kicked off two frames ago. In total, Unhinged took the No. 1 position in 11 markets this weekend which overall was worth $2.17M in 20 for a $2.9M international box office cume to date.
As one international exec recently told me, “We are definitely in need of new and attractive content.” That’s been the refrain across the past several weeks as cinemas in Asia and Europe have reopened, and it’s been borne out by the performances of fresh fare. While numbers may seem meager, they are significantly affected by capacity and screening limits. There is certainly hope on the horizon...

Zoe Saldana wanted to make her love permanent and literal!
The Live by Night star spoke with Et's Carly Steel on Friday about her new movie, which hits theaters on Jan. 13, and took a moment to talk about the tattoo of her husband’s face, Marco Perego, which adorns her left rib cage.
"He has a tattoo of my face on his arm. So it was only fair that I return the gesture, and I always wanted to,” the 38-year-old actress explained. "In fact, I was the one who was going to do it in the first place, but we get our tattoos with an amazing artist called Mark Mahoney. Every time we go for me, Marco would end up convincing me that I didn't have to get it, so that he can get a new tattoo."

It seems like a list of unconfirmed deleted and alternate scenes from David Ayer’s Suicide Squad has surfaced online. There’s no word on if this information is legit, but it’s definitely intriguing to read about a different version of the film that we could have seen.
Personally, I enjoyed the hell out of Suicide Squad, but for some reason, critics are hating it and it’s kind of sad that some of them can’t enjoy fun movies like this. It’s almost like most of them went into the film expecting it to suck so they went in looking for everything bad about the movie. I don’t think the film is perfect by any means, it has its faults, but it sure was a fun ride! If you missed my review, you can check it out here.
As far as general audiences go, they seem to be loving it.

Is Kelly Osbourne Dustin Lynch's little mind reader?
The two were pictured together at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California over the weekend, and though there's speculation the two are romantically linked, multiple sources tell People it's strictly platonic.
"They just met backstage at Stagecoach," a source close to the country star tells People. "They're new friends and enjoyed hanging out last weekend. She's a fan of his music."
Osbourne documented the meeting by posting a photo with 30-year-old Lynch backstage, seemingly toasting with mini shot glasses.
"Thank you Dustin & everyone on your team for treating me like family!

Best Song Oscar 2016 contender 'Fifty Shades of Grey,' with Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. 74 entries in contention for 2016 Best Song Academy Award 'Tis the season for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to announce the semi-finalists – in some instances, the semi-semi-finalists – for the Academy Awards. Today, the Academy released the list of songs eligible for the 2016 Best Song – or rather, Best Original Song – Oscar. There are 74 contenders, with titles ranging from “Happy” and “I'll See You in My Dreams” to “Hypnosis” and “Bhoomiyilenghanumundo.” Curiously, apart from the inevitable animated and/or kiddie flicks (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, Anomalisa, Pan, Shaun the Sheep Movie, Home, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water, etc.) most of this year's contenders are songs from smaller movies and Bollywood/South Asian releases. Exceptions include Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey, Ryan Coogler's Creed, Kenneth Branagh's...

Wow, Geordie Shore got pretty intense this week, didn't it? Not only was there a huge fight (and we mean huge), but there was an awful ending that left us feeling a bit sad to be honest. Of course, it was all as ridiculous as always, too, so read on for 8 outrageous moments from this week...
1. Aaron emptying out his bin of pee.
Yep, Aaron had a big night and peed in the bedroom bin... so of course it was his job to empty it ("It's quarter full!"). But why not have some fun at the same time? So he ran over and wiggled it over Nathan's bed ("It Stinks!") Ah, urine-based japes, our favourite. Given how often Nathan wets his bed, if Aaron had dropped the bucket he probably would have minded, to be honest.
2. Marnie tells Chloe to go for it with Aaron but really means don't go for it with Aaron.

There were only two steals left going into tonight's round of battles on The Voice UK, so it was always going to be a bit dramatic, right? Sure enough, the 12 remaining battle pairings pulled no punches as they took to the ring to persuade their coaches to put them through to the knockouts.
So without further ado, here are all the details of tonight's action - who made it, who didn't, and who grabbed those final two steals from Will and Rita...
Battle #1: Letitia George vs Vikesh Champaneri

It's not like "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." needs any help at this point. The show is so highly anticipated that it could go silent until its premiere date (September 24th) and still have a spectacular debut. People want this show. They want their Whedon and they want their Coulson. But playing it silent is not Marvel's way, nor is it "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s" way, which led to a pretty extensive Twitter campaign this past weekend centered around the unveiling of the show's poster.

The panel didn't reveal anything new (Coulson's resurrection will be dealt with, the show focuses on the people without powers, etc.) but it's still exciting to see just how excited this cast is. Admit it: You've seen "Dirty Dancing" more times than you'd care to admit. You're drawn in by its blend of music, dance, nostalgia, and romance between macho-yet-tender Johnny (Patrick Swayze) and awkward-yet-brave Baby (Jennifer Grey) every time it's on TV. Which is often: it seems to have been running on endless loop since its release 25 years ago, on August 21, 1987. Still, as much as you love "Dirty Dancing," you may not realize how often the production skirted disaster, from almost not being made at all, to almost not casting Swayze, to almost cutting a key subplot to please a squeamish potential corporate sponsor, to its catastrophic test screenings that almost led the film's backers to let the film go unreleased and write it off as a bad investment. How did all that trauma lead to moviegoers having the time of their lives? Read on. 1. Writer/producer Eleanor Bergstein based the story on her own childhood.

Desperate Housewives is over. For longtime fans of the ABC comedy-drama, the two-hour finale flew by. The first half concluded the preposterous murder trial against Bree (Marcia Cross). It was sad to see Bree led off to the death chamber manacled and in an unflattering orange jumper. Am I kidding? As narrator Mary Alice would say: Yesssssss … The second half saw the death of one of the best-loved residents of Wisteria Lane, plus a wedding and a birth. "Ringer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar has announced that she and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. are expecting their second child. The baby will join big sister Charlotte Grace, who was born in September of 2009.
"She and Freddie are thrilled," a friend tells Us. "They're amazing parents."
Though it's unlikely that "Ringer" will be picked up for a second season, a pregnancy would certainly serve as an obstacle on such an action-heavy show -- particularly because Gellar plays twins. Prinze has joined a still-untitled NBC comedy pilot from "Community" writer Hilary Winston, which is convenient, as they've typically taken turns working.
"He loves it. We fight over who gets to stay home," Gellar recently said of Prinze staying home with Charlotte while she worked. "You'd think it would be the opposite, that the parents would be like, 'No, I'll go to work!' but he's like, 'You stayed home for two years!

Dirty Dancing (1987) -- A headstrong young woman discovers love and sex-tastical stuff during one nostalgic summer somewhere silly. Who Made It: The writer of It's My Turn (1980) and the director of Three Men and a Little Lady. Also Jennifer Grey and cool dudes like Jerry Orbach and Patrick Swayze. Sure, "Diner" is a landmark movie, one that launched numerous careers (including those of Kevin Bacon, Mickey Rourke, Ellen Barkin, and director Barry Levinson). But is it really the most influential movie of the last 30 years? Vanity Fair seems to think so. According to an article in the March 2012 issue, "Diner" -- released 30 years ago today, on March 5, 1982 -- is indirectly responsible for "Seinfeld," "The Office," "Pulp Fiction," and "The 40-Year-Old Virgin." Such writers as Nick Hornby, Stephen Merchant, and Judd Apatow acknowledge its impact on the way they write scenes that others omit, scenes were guys reveal what matters most to them by chatting over coffee about things that don't matter at all. Like its trivia-obsessed characters, "Diner" is full of unspoken tales beneath the surface. Even fans may not know how closely life imitated art in the alliances, rivalries, pranks, and power games that helped make the movie...

Last night I had a lovely Scandinavian dinner with friends as we discussed our book club title "The Ice Princess" the latest best seller capitalizing on the super hot Scandinavian crime genre (oh what The Girl With/Who... has wrought!). I didn't like the book at all and the translation seemed clunky (or maybe that was the fault of the original prose?) but I find the whole trend vaguely hilarious since Scandinavian countries, to their vast collective credit, are not exactly known as hotbeds of crime! Returning home, what do I have in my inbox?, but the nominations for Norway's annual "Amanda" Awards. Don't you love unexpected theme days?

My response was always canned "Essence.com is primarily visited by women and therefore, I'm writing for women" but there was one comment that broke me out of the mold! I found it while perusing one of my favorite blogs, Very Smart Brothas (www.verysmartbrothas.com). The comment was made by a Brotha named 'Obsidian' (disclosure: this person uses an alias...

Alex Reid has reportedly told friends that he thinks estranged wife Katie Price is evil. The cage fighter, who split from Price in January, allegedly said that he will always compare the model to Cruella De Vil, whom she dressed up as for her New Year's Eve party. According to The Sun, he told a friend: "It's my turn to tell what really happened. I've kept my mouth shut for months, but now people will hear what an evil woman Katie is. She has tortured me, toyed with me and broken my heart over and over again. "She never loved me. I see that now. And she is doing to this pretty (more)...
