The Fallout TV show is something a lot of fans have been waiting for, and with good reason. The success of live-action adaptations such as The Last of Us showed us that we don’t need to worry every time a director wants to adapt a beloved franchise.
With the show receiving mostly positive reviews, one would think Nolan and Howard have knocked it out of the park. But, as with everything, there are going to be detractors. One section of fans has taken issue with a particular narrative choice that might have negated a titular installment in the franchise.

“I love Sum 41, what we’ve achieved, endured, and stuck together through, which is why I want to call it quits,” vocalist Deryck Whibley said in a statement. “There were so many times we could’ve broken up. For some reason, we kept sticking it out. I’m proud of that. It’s the right time to walk away from it.”
He continued, “I’m putting all of my energy into what’s ahead. This is going to be the biggest tour of our lives,...

Sum 41 have officially announced their final album, Heaven :x: Hell. The double LP is set to drop on March 29th, and the video for the new single “Rise Up” can be streamed now.
The raucous track sees the pop-punk vets in prime form, as frontman Deryck Whibley dishes out nasally vocal hooks to the song’s pogo-ready rhythm. While Sum 41 have declared the upcoming double album their last, “Rise Up” doesn’t sound like a band running out of steam. Instead, they’re going out on top.
News of the album follows Sum 41’s retirement announcement earlier this year. For Whibley, the 20-track Heaven :x: Hell — which pairs a pop-punk “Heaven” disc with the more heavy metal “Hell” flip-side — felt like a proper conclusion.
“Once I heard the music, I was confident enough to say, ‘This is the record I’d like to go out on,’” Whibley said via a press release.

The Scarecrow, aka Dr. Jonathan Crane, is my favorite Batman villain. I've always been drawn to his eponymous motif, his horror-twinged stories, and how he contests Batman for the title "The Master of Fear." Hence, though "Batman: The Animated Series" holds a special place in my heart, I've always been disappointed that Scarecrow wasn't an A-list player.
Crane is the antagonist in only three episodes and in each one is mostly an obstacle for Batman to develop against. In his villainous debut, "Nothing to Fear," Batman is dosed with Scarecrow's Fear Toxin and haunted by an apparition of his father, leading to the Dark Knight's most famous line. In "Dreams in Darkness," the Fear Toxin drives Batman temporarily insane and he's locked in Arkham Asylum. He must escape both his physical and mental prison before Scarecrow can poison Gotham City.

Bruce Timm helped make the DC Animated Universe what it is today, and did so by essentially making kids' cartoons for adults. It started with "Batman: The Animated Series" ("Tas" for short) back in 1993, which took the best parts throughout Batman history — from both the comics and movies — wrapped them up in an art deco, film noir package, and added as many adult themes and emotionally rich storylines as possible without riling up the Fox Kids censors too much.
This wildly successful show made Timm a superstar at Warner Bros. Animation, who'd tapped him to reinvigorate Superman in the '90s following his work on "Batman: Tas." This resulted in "Superman: The Animated Series"; an impressive reinterpretation of the DC hero that, like Timm's Batman effort, managed to condense the best parts of the Superman canon into a new vision for its titular character. It might not enjoy the same...

After "Batman: The Animated Series" ended its legendary run on Fox Kids in 1997, fans of the show were mercifully given a further two seasons (sort of) when Kids' WB stepped in. Debuting in 1998, "The New Batman Adventures" served as a kind of continuation/sequel to Bruce Timm and Eric Radomski's seminal show, updating the memorable "Batman: Tas" design style and shifting the focus from the Dark Knight to members of the Bat family and other Gothamites.
Joined by Robin, Nightwing, and Batgirl, Batman would become a more stern figure in this follow-up series, which aired alongside Timm's "Superman: The Animated Series" and helped expand the DC Animated Universe. This show did away with elements of its predecessor's darker, noirish aesthetic and simplified Batman, Joker, and other characters' looks.
But while much changed between Timm's original series and its follow-up, much of the behind-the-scenes processes stayed the same, including navigating the censors.

The bell just rang, school is out for summer. Maybe it’s out forever—leaving school behind as our heroes and antiheroes spend long, hot days laying about in the city or countryside, anticipating college dreams or fearing a return to the classroom. Or, more likely, not thinking of studies at all, just anticipating the next summer day and how to score more thrills. As the season winds down, here is a mix that is an ode to the teenage summer—so wonderfully captured in many films—a choice selection that evokes endless possibilities: sweat, love, passion, booze, drugs, and questions of the great unknown just around the corner. The characters of these summertime stories are either breaking hearts, heartbroken, running from hell or somewhere lost in between. Some favorite moments include the confusion, chaos and otherworldly essence of Gheorghe Zamfir’s flute from the unforgettable score for Peter Weir...

Matt Dillon might have been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award at Locarno on Thursday, but he still has “stuff to do.” And he wants you to know that.
“The first thing I thought was: ‘Oh wow, that’s really nice.’ And then: ‘I don’t feel like I am done just yet!’,” Dillon tells Variety ahead of the ceremony. But he has been around for a long time, he admits, having made his first film, Jonathan Kaplan’s “Over the Edge,” back in 1979.
“We were a bunch of actors playing juvenile delinquents, staying at a Holiday Inn in Colorado where McDonald’s slaughterhouses are based. One day we came across that old guy, a scenic painter, who worked on ‘The Wizard of Oz.’ It was like running into Mozart.”
Curious about everything, he was affected by seeing characters come to life and the idea of mirroring human nature right from the start.

Anthony Perkins in Edge Of Sanity (1989) will be available on Special Edition Blu-ray June 21st from Arrow Video
Anthony Perkins builds upon his legendary status as cinema’s seminal psycho in Edge of Sanity, a delirious conflation of Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic horror novella ‘Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ and Jack the Ripper’s real-life reign of terror over Victorian London.
When his experiments into a powerful new anaesthetic go hideously awry, respected physician Dr Jekyll (Perkins) takes off into the night, casting aside the shackles of upper-class propriety as he disappears into the shadowy decadent demimonde of Whitechapel in pursuit of sensual pleasures under the guise of ‘Mr Hyde’. As his wife Elisabeth (Glynis Barber) passes her time in charitable work, rehabilitating the district’s fallen women, Hyde is drawn into an escalating cycle of lust and murder that seems to know no bounds.

Most actors would rather forget their first movies, whether due to the type of film they appeared in or their work within them. Yet, some have the good fortune to not only give an excellent performance the first time out of the gate, but deliver it inside a movie that becomes enormously influential to future legendary artists.
That's precisely the case for Matt Dillon and the first film he starred in, 1979's "Over the Edge." The movie, which sees Dillon as one of the disaffected and mistreated teen residents of a corporate-minded planned community named New Grenada, would go on to inspire the likes...

Le Pacte to Host Market Premieres for ‘Adieu Paris,’ ‘On the Edge’ at Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris
Le Pacte is set to host market premieres for Édouard Baer’s “Adieu Paris” and Giordano Gederlini’s “On the Edge” at the Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Paris, which takes place this week.
“Adieu Paris” stars an ensemble cast, including some of France and Belgium’s best-known actors, notably Benoît Poelvoorde, François Damiens, Gérard Depardieu, Isabelle Nanty, Pierre Arditi and Ludivine Sagnier. The dialogue-driven comedy takes place entirely at a Parisian bistro. Camille Neel, head of international sales at Le Pacte, said the film will appeal to traditional French films lovers and admirers of iconic actors. “Adieu Paris” is the fourth directorial outing of actor-turned-helmer Baer, who last directed “Ouvert la nuit” in which he starred opposite Audrey Tautou and Sabrina Ouazani. The film, produced by Cinéfrance Studios, Les Films en Cabine, Le Pacte and Artémis Productions, had its world premiere at the Lumiere Festival in Lyon, France.

Scripted formats and gameshows are performing strongly in Asia for Banijay Rights, the distribution arm of Banijay.
“Grantchester” is a strong seller and the company licensed dramas such as “The Good Karma Hospital,” “Younger” and European titles locally to partners like Mola TV, says Banijay Rights EVP Asia Rashmi Bajpai. ” ‘Mr. Bean’ is an evergreen property, delighting children and adults alike, while physical gameshows such as ‘Wipeout’ and super-brands like ‘MasterChef’ dominate our sales chart,” Bajpai told Variety.
“On the formats side, big branded shows with proven sponsorship potential that can be shot in controlled environments — such as ‘MasterChef’ and ‘Big Brother’ — and small to medium-scale humorous gameshows with easy to understand game-play like ‘First and Last,’ also do well,” Bajpai added.
After the success of the Tamil-language “Survivor,” hosted by film star Arjun Sarja, in India, Banijay is in discussions to produce more versions.

Headed by Oliver Stoltz, Dreamer Joint Venture produced Marc Wiese’s 2020 doc feature “We Hold the Line,” about Filipino dictator Rodrigo Duterte’s persecution of journalists, and Markus Imboden’s “On the Edge,” an Arte France-backed relationship drama.

Ahead of the Alvarado’s debut, the five-piece premiered the song “Ain’t Lookin’.” A hard-driving rock number, it opens with a snaking guitar lead and heavy drums and finds the Wild Feathers singing about a failed romance and road trip to nowhere. “I ain’t lookin’ for love no more,” goes the chorus, while the verses toss out images of busted screen doors,...

To mark the release of Over the Edge, out now, we’ve been given 2 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
Over The Edge – available now on Blu-ray from Arrow Video – is an incendiary ode to teen rebellion that quickly became a Gen X/punk-rock touchstone, and a key influence on filmmakers such as Richard Linklater and musicians like Kurt Cobain (who often cited it as his favourite film). Armed with a classic ‘70s rock soundtrack, energetic direction by Jonathan Kaplan (White Line Fever) and an intelligent script by Tim Hunter (River’s Edge) and Charlie Haas (Matinee), Over The Edge still packs a righteously powerful punch today, and makes its worldwide Blu-Ray debut with brand new bonus features interviewing the cast and crew.

Steve McQueen’s anthology series Small Axe and Michaela Coel’s I May Destroy You dominated the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Monday.
Small Axe clinched five wins, the most on a night that celebrated behind-the-scenes craftspeople, but it was I May Destroy You that secured two of the biggest gongs for Coel: Director: Diction, and Writer: Drama. The BBC/HBO series was also victorious in the Editing: Fiction category.
Coel, who beat McQueen in the directing category alongside co-director Sam Miller, accepted her writing win. “I would like to thank every draft. There are hundreds of them, each living only briefly and sacrificing themselves so the version we watched that won this BAFTA could exist,” she said.
BBC/Amazon series Small Axe’s prizes included JoJo Williams for Make Up & Hair Design; Jacqueline Durran for Costume Design; Helen Scott for Production Design; Shabier Kirchner for Photography & Lighting: Fiction; and Gary Davy for Scripted Casting.

Although it didn’t make much of a box office dent when new, Tfh guru Jonathan Kaplan’s bleak portrait of rootless suburban kids in an ’80s “model community” still packs a punch. Benefits from naturalistic and starkly credible performances from a charismatic teenage cast, several of whom went on to stardom. Co-written by Tfh guru Tim Hunter.

BAFTA has responded to criticism from an actress on its diversity scheme Elevate that she faced racist comments and was not given appropriate disability support.
In a BBC article published this morning, actress India Eva Rae – whose credits include Channel 4 TV series On The Edge and Hulu series Maxxx – described Elevate as a “PR exercise” that failed to open doors for its participants, who she says were recruited to “clean up” BAFTA’s image.
Today, the organization told us: “BAFTA Elevate was created in 2017 and has supported over 50 talented individuals from under-represented groups in progressing their careers, and to help tackle the issue of diversity in our industries as a whole. On the relatively short list of truly great films about teenage alienation, writer-director Allan Moyle’s 1990 drama Pump Up the Volume ranks somewhere near the top, alongside earlier classics like Rebel Without a Cause and Over the Edge; yet unlike those brutally pessimistic movies, Pump Up the Volume manages to be as exhilarating as it is cynical, blending its authentic despair with an uplifting sense of liberating rebellion in a manner that compromises neither. Reboot used to be a dirty word to my ears, but there are movies that would benefit from a chance to revisit them in a modern-day setting, but Over the Edge might need a good bit of work before it was really made into something that might be deemed as worthwhile for the current era. The story alone is something that could be understood by a lot of people since it essentially involves putting a bandage over a broken bone, so to speak. The broken system that many love to speak about over and over is something that is represented

Fin Edquist.
Fin Edquist is perhaps best known for animated adventures aimed at children and families – but the screenwriter finds equal satisfaction in creating adult-themed dramas.
Reflecting that diversity, his upcoming slate includes an Alice Springs-set series to be produced by Brindle Films’ Rachel Clements; a feature film spin-off of On the Edge, a planned TV animated children’s series; and a dark thriller/horror.
“My natural inclination is to the darker stuff,” says Edquist, whose writing credits include McLeod’s Daughters and House Husbands; he also co-created The Secret Daughter with Sam Meikle, Justin Monjo and Kristen Dunphy but didn’t get the chance to work on the Screentime/Seven Network show.
“The kids stuff is something I discovered later on in my career. I enjoy them equally and am glad I can work in both. They present different challenges and requirements and different forms of escape.
“I have four children.
