Was, at the time, the most expensive family movie made in Sweden.
Lars Söderdahl, who plays Skorpan, became very religious in his late teens/early twenties and took a lot of bible classes. When he did that he read Hebrew and found out that Katla (the name of the horrible dragon), with a slightly different spelling means "She kills" in Hebrew. He didn't know if this was intentional or not. But he thought it was a fitting name for the beast from this movie.
In the big fighting scene in the end, the two armies are shown on either side of a big valley. They are actually the same men, filmed different days on different sides of the valley.
Dragon Katla (partially portrayed by a flame-throwing puppet head) accidentally caught fire during shooting.
In the last fighting scene, the villagers run from Katla down the hill and pass a lot of junipers. The junipers are actually burned down already, before Katla's fire hit them. They were accidentally burned down in other takes before the "right" one.
