When production began in June 1976, Deidre Hall (Electra Woman) found herself also taking the role of Dr. Marlena Evans on Days of Our Lives (1965), but trying to keep up with the parallel tapings devoured all of her time and energy. Her work on "Electra Woman" only lasted 8 weeks, but she's endured on "Days of Our Lives" for over 45 years.
During the first season, the Kaptain Kool and the Kongs segments were taped at "The World of Sid & Marty Krofft," a short-lived theme park inside the Omni complex in Atlanta, which later became the headquarters for CNN. There are tiny glimpses of the park, including the Crystal Carrousel, Krofftbot, and pinball ride, but the park's landscape was not fully utilized.
The Osmonds wrote and produced all of the first season's songs, as well as provided accompaniment for Kaptain Kool and the Kongs. The Kroffts parted ways with the Osmonds in 1977, when the production of Donny and Marie (1975) relocated near the family's home in Utah. Tommy Oliver produced the music for the second season.
During the first season, the producers tried to capitalize on the glam/glitter rock craze by having Kaptain Kool and the Kongs dress in bizarre costumes and paint their faces with glittery makeup. Between seasons, Michael Lembeck (Kaptain Kool) shaved off his long hair for a role in the film The Boys in Company C (1978), so for season two, they stuck a wig and hat on him and completely overhauled the band's look, trading in the glitz for muted polyester and denim.
