Last week, the Geena Davis Institute (Gdi) proudly marked its 20th anniversary with a vitalized rebrand.
Through this, the organization is continuing to showcase its longstanding mission to champion the representation of six major intersecting identities in global entertainment media. Founded in 2004 by two-time Academy Award-winning actor Geena Davis, Gdi has been at the forefront of influencing equitable portrayals of gender, race/ethnicity, Lgbtqia+, disability, age 50+ and body type.
Over the past two decades, Gdi has played a pivotal role in pioneering the use of data driven research to measure and influence onscreen representation in global entertainment media. “Sex” follows two men in heterosexual marriages, who have an unexpected experience that challenges them to reconsider their understanding of sexuality, gender and identity. One has a sexual encounter with another man, without considering it either as an expression of homosexuality or infidelity and discusses it with his wife afterwards. The other finds himself in nocturnal dreams where he is seen as a woman, stirring confusion and leading him to question how much his personality is shaped by the gaze of others.

TikTok’s celebration of Black History Month this year includes its annual Visionary Voices list spotlighting Black creators as well as a number of in-app and in-real-life programs.
A #BlackTikTok hub in the app will feature stories, livestreams and music from Black creators, businesses and nonprofits, such as Black Girl Ventures, which last year received a $1 million investment from the platform. This year, the two are teaming up to launch the Black Girl Ventures Innovate Together TikTok Grant Program, which will award U.S.-based beauty and lifestyle entrepreneurs and content creators out of a grant pool of $50,000. Applications are open starting today.
