I demand a remake!
doc_hartman22 August 2006
Novak had something here but just couldn't get it to click. Stag film regular Marsha Jordan plays Sweet Georgia, a manipulative Nymphomaniac that will have sex with just about anyone, except her fat, dumb, drunk husband.

The story surrounding these people would be interesting with a little better execution. Jordan is the star but is forced to carry the film farther then her star-power could handle. Barbara Mills as the step-daughter was just plain bad and the male supports, with the exception of Gene Drew as "Big T," were just reciting lines to the best of their ability. Had Novak just played this as a sexploitation project, they might have pulled it off. Jordan plays the manipulative woman very well but we don't care about her victims enough to root for her downfall. The ending is NEVER hinted at and seemed tacked on to make the audience reel-back in revulsion or hurl. Shorter (and better) sex scenes coupled with a bit more character development and this could be a gem of a direct-to-video sexploiter or 2:00 a.m. feature on Cinemax. But until then, leave this on the shelf and rent "Femalien" instead.

Warning: Spoilers
How you gonna jeep 'em down on the farm after they've seen Marsha Jordan? Here is Marsha at her nymphomaniac best taking on all comers (literally) except for her mangy hick husband who rules the roost like he was Adolf Hitler with a southern accent. The guy beats up his wife and daughter and anybody else who might wander by. The husband gives hicks a bad name and that's really saying something.

The best scene of the film has Marsha seducing the dumb as dirt stable hand who she has to show exactly what to do when it comes to the lovemaking department.

SPOILER ALERT! That's just before a very naked Marsha gets stomped to death by a wayward horse and her husband comes along shortly thereafter and thinks the idiot stable hand did it and pitchforks the poor SOB to death. Guess he got the point.

Sexploitation As Succulent As A Georgia Peach!
Celluloid_Fiend5 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Southern hick sexploitation films from the 60's and 70's are not exactly a rare commodity, but this one is a little something special because you have two of the genre "royalty" working together: Harry "The King of Sexploitation" Novak and Marsha "The Queen of Soft Core" Jordan.

In "Sweet Georgia," Marsha Jordan plays the title role. Georgia is an insatiable nympho, who has no problem getting it on with anyone, from the ranch hands to her own virgin step-daughter. Seems everyone gets a piece of her sweet loving, except her drunk, fat and abusive husband. But when a sexual encounter in the stables leads to a horrible accident, things take a dark turn for everyone.

As with most films of this type, the production values are pretty low and the acting abilities of everyone, save the sensuous Marsha Jordan, almost non-existent. It's pretty much left up to Marsha and her voluptuous curves to carry the film, which she actually does fairly well. The story is pretty thin, as it revolves around this group of people stay with the drunken head of the household, only until he strikes some gold from his mine. Of course, he never does and this part of the plot is quickly forgotten when everyone starts having their trysts with Georgia. There is some nice full frontal nudity of Marsha, too, which is always a treat for the viewer. The sex scenes are not over too quickly, nor do they feel as though they are dragging on, either. Marsha's girl-on-girl scene with Barbara Mills is particularly erotic. The dialog is corny and unintentionally humorous (with lines like: "Shut up and lay me!") and except for Marsha, all the other actors sound like they are reading their lines off cue-cards. Fortunately, Ms. Jordan's banging bod and steamy screen presence is enough to hold things together and keep it interesting enough until the final act.

The last third of the film does take a rather morbid and dark turn that you don't see coming, which really helps it to stand out from other such sexploitation efforts of the times and will help make it a bit more memorable than most. It's also one of the last films Marsha Jordan did, before leaving the business.

"Sweet Georgia" is slightly better than the typical entry of this genre and shows why Harry Novak really knew how to take such inane concepts as this and make them entertaining, if not always interesting. Genre fans are sure to get some fun mileage out of this effort. If you are a fan of the buxom Marsha Jordan, this one is definitely a keeper for your collection. All in all, it's pretty decent fare for this brand of film and certainly worth a viewing or two.

This had to be a joke

First, let me say that I don't mind smut - in fact, that's what I was looking for when I popped this into my VCR. Great way to blow that mood...

The pacing is excruciating - as if the director knew he had only 15 minutes of script, but 90 minutes of film to use up before it hit expiration date. The 90 seconds of Georgia getting a drink at the sink was a perfect example.

The camera-work was ... well, amazing. I have no idea how this person ever got work in the film industry. Shaky, out-of-focus shots interspersed with fascinating views of a cave wall. Hours (well, it seemed that way) of a tiny speck in the distance looking something like a woman riding a horse. Personally, I wouldn't trust this cameraman to film their own home movies.

Characterization, plot, dialog - all well within reasonable expectations for a 4th grade media class.

Even the nudity was disappointing. Avoid this turkey at all costs.

Jordan and Mills Are the Only Good Things

Sweet Georgia (1972)

* 1/2 (out of 4)

Georgia (Marsha Jordan) is a big-breasted woman who is constantly in need of sexual bliss and she's take it from pretty much anyone except her drunk husband. Pretty soon she starts to get a thing for her sweet virgin step-daughter Virginia (Barbara Mills).

SWEET GEORGIA is Southern-friend sexploitation but it really isn't all that entertaining. The film clocks in at 79-minutes, which is about 59-minutes too long as there's really not much of a story going on here. Of course, one could argue that these sexploitation movies didn't need any sort of story as long as they delivered the goods. The goods here of course would be nudity and there's plenty of that but certainly this wasn't enough to keep you glued into the picture.

This here gave Jordan one more chance at a major role and she does the most with it. Even though this happened towards the end of her career, Jordan was still incredibly beautiful and there's no question that this was a role she could do justice. Playing a sex-fiend was something she did quite well and there's no question looking at her frolic around naked was a major plus. With that said, it's Mills that really stands out here. She doesn't get to speak too much but she certainly had a presence that just leaped off the screen. Gene Drew was also fun as the drunken husband.

SWEET GEORGIA might appeal to those who will watch any type of sexploitation film but if you're new to the genre then it's best to start with something better.

Woof!
BandSAboutMovies3 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Marsha Jordan (Count Yorga, The Toy Box) is Sweet Georgia, the sexed up wife of rancher Big T (Gene Drew, Truck Stop Women, Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw), an abusive drunk who she denies carnal pleasure, instead finding it in the arms of ranchhand Cal and even the arms of her stepdaughter Virginia (Barbara Mills, who also used the stage names Leona Tyler and Barbara Caron for movies like Executive Wives and Fire In Her Bed).

The final straw is when Georgia sleeps with the slow witted Leroy, which leads to her getting trampled by a horse and the farmhand getting stabbed with a pitchfork before Cal and Virginia cattle prod the oyster ditch, so to speak. Then, of course, Cal is killed by Big T and we cut to Virginia enjoying herself in a room that is so red lit that it must have been in Mario Bava's house. In case you think that the once virginal Virginia isn't going to dance the forbidden polka with her old man, then you haven't seen a Harry Novak film. Is there a square up reel? Of course there is.

This is another Harry Novak affair. Yes, the producer of such stalwart offerings as Suburban Pagans; Country Cuzzins; Wham! Bam! Thank You, Spaceman!; The Child and Tanya, perhaps the only sexploitation comedy romp about Patty Hearst. If you think I'm not hunting down that last one right now, you don't know me all that well.

Should you watch this? Honestly, other than the song that plays throughout the film, there's not much I can recommend. You'd probably get more out of it just looking at the poster for an hour.

Any Man Could Have Her..But Only The Hardest Was A Match For...Sweet Georgia
Smut in the wild west (in the same vein as "Ramrodder" and "Brand of Shame") released by one of the masters of the age Harry Novak.

Georgia is a nymphomaniac and nothing can sate her need for lust and carnal passions, and she is not to choosy on who she couples with, be it a big lunk head ranch hand, her step-daughter or anyone she can get her paws on.

But of course her lusty ways get her into trouble, deep dark trouble and soon enough her words "Shut up and Lay me" come back to haunt her.

A "Boxoffice International" release that is well worth the trouble of tracking down
